Chapter 29

ALPHA LENNON

After assigning the night duties to every group for the fourth time this week, I retreated to my chambers. Beta Jaime was commanding them to be more diligent and careful of their surroundings, while I could only imagine Yvette sitting at the window, looking at the moon like always.

She noticed me passing by when the door was open and again gave me a small smile, even though I could see her eyes filled with tears. She was in her most vulnerable state of mind at this moment, and the lack of attention from her husband only added to her concern and misery.

The fire in my heart had been spreading like a forest fire, and every night I was having wet dreams of her with me in my bed. Just like usual, I proceeded to walk inside my room so that I could again daydream about her. My man had not been very useful in finding Daphne. It was as if the ground had engulfed her and she had been transferred to another planet. Whoever was helping her was very smart and must be a man of power because he left no trace behind him so that anyone could track her down.

As I was thinking about Daphne and cursing my luck, I heard a soft knock on the door. Upon looking closely, I found Yvette standing with a faint smile on her face, looking at me for permission so that she could enter my chamber.

"Please come on in. You don't have to ask for permission." I couldn't stop myself from staring at her beautiful face.

"That's fine. After all, you are the alpha. It would have been different if Alaine had been alive. But now that we are no longer related, I must be treated as any other member." She replied with a very sad tone.

I knew very well that she was still grieving her daughter's death, and her mind was very weak from all that overthinking.

"I know. It is the greatest loss of all time. I wish things would have been different." I continued to stare down at the floor as she took the seat beside me.

"I don't know what's wrong, Alpha Lennon. Nowadays, I don't think I am in the right frame of mind. Every single second of the day, I feel like I am drowning in sorrow, and there seems no way to get out of there." She wiped her cheek, which was already wet from the tears as they continued to flow even though she blinked her eyes many times.

"I know. You have changed a lot. I can see it in your eyes. And Beta Jaime can't give you his full attention right now because he believes the pack's security comes first. I told him that he didn't need to be out at night because you are alone in the chamber, but he won't listen to me. I am sorry if you think that I am keeping him away from you because I would never think of doing that." I touched her hands very smoothly and lovingly.

"No, it's not your fault. He has been quite distant from me since the deaths of Alpha Darius and Alaine. He has lost interest in me and always finds excuses to get away from me whenever he can. He doesn't understand that all this makes me depressed, and I sometimes contemplate ending my life."

As she talked about killing herself, I hugged her immediately.

Her body froze in response, but I didn't care because it was the only chance I would get, and this was going to be the first and last one. I clutched her arms tightly, and when she tried to get away from me, I didn't let her go.

"No! Don't you dare talk about killing yourself again! You are not alone! I am in the same boat as you. Do you think that I don't miss Alaine? I do it every single time. And do you want to know when I miss her the most?" I grabbed her chin and made her look into my eyes. I could see the light blush on her cheeks, aware that my proximity was also affecting her body.

"When?" She barely was able to whisper as I fixed my gaze on her plump lips.

"Whenever I see you... " I sighed.

I patiently waited for her to react or get away from me. But she just sat still, tangled around my arms, as she waited for me to continue telling her more about my feelings.

"I am sorry. I don't know what's wrong with my head, but believe me. Whenever you laugh, whenever you cry, or whenever you even look at me, since the past few weeks, the attraction has only grown, and I shamelessly like you more than I should." I rested my forehead against hers and closed my eyes.

Soon, her soft palm touched my cheek, and she ran her fingers through my hair.

"Alpha Lennon, I knew that something had shifted between us. I could feel a growing tension and the thick air of doubt surrounding us. I know it's not right, but Jaime doesn't love me anymore. He doesn't even touch me by mistake too. My only daughter is dead, and I am here, a thirty-six-year-old lonely and depressed woman." Yvette hugged me tightly and cried on my shoulder.

I patted her head to calm her down and took the opportunity to get even closer to her. Her soft breasts touched my chest as she cried, clinging to me.

"No, you are not unloved. You are such a beautiful woman with these beautiful features. I can't understand why Beta Jaime won't touch you. If it were up to me, I wouldn't let you get out of my bed for three straight days." I blurted out whatever was inside my head. Her movements stopped, and she let go of my arm.

With blurry vision, she looked at me with a weird look.

"What are you talking about?" She asked, baffled by my statement.

"I would love to make love to you, Yvette, better than Beta Jaime has ever made you feel. I really like you, and your sight just makes me crazy," I said with heavy breaths.
