Chapter 66
Third Person
“Aziz, I need to go somewhere," Lexis said. His brother looked at her, creasing his forehead.
“And where are you going?” he asked,
“I just need to check on something," she replied, but Aziz was not content with her reply. He wanted her to tell him exactly where she was going and what she was going to do. The risk of being caught by a vampire is big.
“You know that the vampires know that we are alive, right?”
“Yes, of course. But don’t worry, I can take care of myself," she replied, but Aziz was not convinced.
“Unless you tell me where exactly you are going, I am not going to let you go," he said, getting back to the reports on his table.
“Aziz!”
“Don’t shout, Lexis; I’m just right here, and I have a good hearing."
“Then why can’t you just let me?”
“I already told you my reason.”
“I am not one of your pack members,”
“But you are one of my siblings.”
“So what?”
“I have to protect you.”
“Come on, I can manage. I've been doing that since birth, and you see, I’m still alive and kicking rogues and vampires' asses," she replied.
“Lexis, it’s different now. As you can see, all packs have been targeted by the vampires, and your being alone is not a good idea. What if they found you when you least expected it? No, I can’t take that risk.”
“Aziz, I promise I am going to take care of myself. I am not the kind who would jump into the enemy headlessly.”
“If you insist, at least tell me where you are going.”
“Fine, I want to visit a friend. She had been alone, and I want to make sure she’s fine and might as well ask her to come with me here,” she replied. “We have been friends for as long as I can remember, and we are looking after each other.”
“Bring someone with you,” Aziz replied, going back to the report.
“No need; she’ll get scared. I want to bring her here, so just let me.”
“Where is she?” Aziz asked, looking at her and raising a brow in disbelief.
“In the human territory in town," Lexis replied.
“Fine, make sure to come back as soon as possible.”
“Thanks, I will," and Lexis left the alpha’s office. Aziz followed her with his gaze and a worried look on his face. He knew that he couldn’t stop her and that she would do whatever would please her. He was thankful because she chose to ask for his permission.
Meanwhile, Beta Clint of the Lunar Pack was on his way to the Dark Blood Pack to see Lexis. He wanted to see his mate since he had not seen her for a long time. His Alpha suggested that he just let her go because he had already marked her and would know if anything happened to her.
Clint uses his motorcycle to get to Lexis faster, but when he is almost at the border, he smells her. He stopped and then left his motorcycle on the roadside and followed Lexis’ scent. He knew that she was running fast, so he ran as fast as he could, even though he already knew that he wouldn't be able to beat her or even catch up to her.
Lexis, on the other hand, felt his presence, so she slowed down. In reality, she was going to the Lunar Pack to have a peek at her mate. She misses him, and she is worried for the pack as well. Even though Reeves had already gone there to train everyone, she couldn’t help but feel worried. ‘Beta female’s instinct, I guess.’ she thought.
“What are you doing here?” She asked when she spotted Clint.
“I should be the one who asks you that. You are supposed to be in the Dark Blood Pack; why are you leaving their territory?” her mate asked instead as he walked closer to her while Lexis waited for him.
“I am going to see a friend," Lexis replied, although it wasn’t the truth.
“Whose friend?” Clint asked angrily, thinking it was a boy.
“I don’t see any reason why I should tell you.”
“Fu** Lexis! ”
“Come on and fu**," she replied. Clint didn’t think twice and got close to her as fast as he could. He kissed her hungrily and didn’t give Lexis a chance to push him away. Unbeknownst to him, she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
Lexis kissed him back, to his surprise. He carried her and pinned her to the tree behind her. “I missed you so much, Lexis," he said in between their kisses.
“Let’s just get over this lust, Clint," she said, which made the beta stop and look at her.
“I am not just lusting over you, Lexis.”
“Didn’t men only want to get free fu**?”
“I won’t deny that. But there is something you don’t know about men,” he answered. “That is, we don’t let go of the woman we wanted to fu** freely forever," he said, then kissed her again. Lexis responded that he was the reason she left the Dark Blood Pack. To see her mate secretly.
“Why did you stop?” Lexis asked when Clint suddenly stopped and looked at her intently until he put her down.
“I am not here to get a free fu**, Lexis. I am on my way to the Dark Blood Pack to get you, bring you into the Lunar Pack, and stay with me for the rest of our lives," he said. Lexis was speechless. She didn’t know what to decide. She knew that her sister Hera was mated to Clint’s alpha, and they would be together in their pack. She will have a family she has longed for for a very long time. But she was hesitant since she knew that she was also a rogue.
She looked at Clint, and she knew that he wanted her. But will that be enough for her to feel comfortable in a pack where she knows that the alpha himself doesn’t want to accept and claim his mate because he thinks she is weak?
“I already marked you, Lexis. All you have to do is come with me and mark me as well, and everything’s going to be alright," Clint said, hoping she would agree. But Lexis was now decided.
“I’m sorry. I can't right now. I had something to do first.”
“Is it more important than me, your mate? ” Clint asked.
"Yes," she replied, and she didn’t elaborate anymore.
“Very well, if you ever change your mind, you know where to find me," the beta replied, turning his back to her. Lexis was left where she was standing. The longing she was feeling toward her mate dissipated as she watched him leave
