CHAPTER 24

CHAPTER 24
I couldn't help but think about what Rory had said. Was it possible that Elias was a threat? Or maybe Rory is still the actual threat. I just couldn't place it.

But Rory was right when he'd said that Elias was a lone wolf, and lone wolves were probably not to be trusted.

I had to skip my thoughts when I got a message from Skai. It read; Hey babes, my car is faulty. Guess you'll have to come to school on your own. I'm sorry. See you in school.”

“Urrggh!” I exclaimed. I still had to go to college, and still be an Alpha. Two things that meant the world to me. Being an Alpha was a lot of work and maybe I was beginning to see reasons with the elders to stay away from college and focus on the pack, but college meant the world to me too. And I wanted to believe that I could tackle both of them.

I got up and tried to get ready to leave when I heard a knock on my door. “Who is it?” I asked. But there was no answer. I almost wanted to ignore whoever that was, but then I asked again.

“It's your mate. The one the moon goddess so blessed you with.” The voice from outside the room finally said.

“Oh my God!” I muttered. I knew that voice and I wondered what the hell he was doing at my door step that early. I didn't respond to him, I just kept packing up, then he knocked again, this time l, it was harder.

“Come in, Lark.” I finally said.

He came in and I didn't even raise my eyes to see him. “Hey.” He started.

“Lark, you know I'm supposed to be leaving for college right now, I might not have the time to have a mating conversation with you.” I said.

He smirked, “A mating conversation? No dear, that's definitely not what I want to have right now. I just came in here to check on my mate and my alpha.”

Carrying my bag, and tying my hair in a bun, I turned to face him. “That is so thoughtful of you, Lark. I'm grateful.”

I moved out of the room heading out of my building, and he joined me. I wondered why Dolphus didn't check on me at all, but I was going to be late if I stopped by his chamber. Oh true! I didn't describe exactly how the pack we stay looks like. It's like a country, a small country or maybe you could call it an island where werewolf cohabits. Of course, we lived in a city full of humans and werewolves, but the werewolves stayed together in buildings and different chambers.

When I stepped out of the building, Lark looked around for any sign of Skai, and when he noticed he wasn't there, he turned to me with a frown. “Where's your friend?”

“Her car is faulty. She won't be picking me up today.” I responded.

He paused and with a serious frown, “why didn't you ask for a ride or something?”

It hit me then, that was true. I could have asked anyone for a ride, but I didn't think of it. “I didn't want to bother you.”

He chuckled, “Bother me? You are my mate, Alaya.”

Gosh! It felt sickening whenever he got to say that I was his mate, I obviously wasn't. To think of it, there were four of them calling me thier mate. I know that we had agreed to bring good friends but I hoped we could agree to not using the word, mate.

“Let me get my car.” He said, and left to get his car.

While on the road, it was fun. Lark was the funny, sarcastic and sweet kind of guy. I'd not known he was that nice until that ride. When I got to college, Skai was already waiting outside for me alongside Tatum, Rob and Dylan.

I smiled when I noticed Tatum, I didn't expect him to be waiting with the other three.

“Thank you, Lark. This is the best ride I've had in years.” I said as I got out of the car.

He smiled, showing off his whole thirty two teeth. “A ride with Lark is a ride with love, baby. I have one request though.”

“Alright.”

“Can I pick you up after classes?”

I turned around to look at my friends who didn't even know what we were conversing about, then I turned back to face him. “With a condition that you'll drop my friend, or friends too.”

He nodded with a smile, “Have a lovely day, Querida.”

I returned a smile and walked to my friends while he zoomed off.

“Hey guys.” I greeted.

“Lark?” Skai asked, with mockery in her voice.

I smiled, “please!”

“Let's get to class already.” Rob said as we headed to class. Dylan had waved to me, but Tatum didn't say anything.

After classes, Skai and I sat back in class to have a conversation, while the three guys sat behind.

“You still haven't told me why Lark had to bring you to school today. What's up?” She asked.

I rolled my eyes, “he just offered to, and he'll be coming to pick me up afterwards. I'd told him your car was faulty.”

“Does Kellan and the other guys know about this?”

I sighed, “Nope. I don't think so. But, they planned to just be friends with me.”

I just knew that Lark most certainly wanted to be my favorite. I knew I would have to expect too much kindness from the four of them.

She didn't say anything. Then I asked, “Do you know why Tatum didn't say a word to me today?”

She looked at me with a grin. “You're worried about that?”

Of course I was, but I didn't want to let her see that. “No. I just wanted to be sure about why.”

“Ask him.”

Rob and Dylan came to our seat and Skai spoke to them but I remained quiet. I wondered why Tatum was quiet. I wondered, did j do something wrong? We spoke the other day and we appreciated each other's presence in our lives, did he feel otherwise this time? What's wrong? I kept asking myself.

“What's on that lil mind of yours, Alaya?” Dylan nudged my shoulder, taking me off my rivers of thoughts.

“It's nothing.” I responded, “what's up with Tatum?”

Rob raised his eyes to look at Tatum, “Nothing. I mean nothing I know of. Tatum is fine. That's Tatum for you.”

“Weird!” I muttered.

Dylan laughed out loud, “wierd? This is just a tip of the iceberg. He's more weird than weird. And, he's the lord of mood swings.”

While we were still conversing, I had a strong urge to speak to Tatum, but there was a part of me that wanted him to speak to me first. “If he's got ego, I've got double.” I said to myself.

My phone buzzed. “Yeah… that must be Lark.” I said as I picked it up. But it wasn't. It was a message from Rory. He'd called me severally, I just got to see over ten missed calls. “Oh my God!”

I didn't hear it ring. The message he sent read “Alaya, where are you? This is crucial!”

My heart skipped. What could have happened?
