Chapter 10
"And what will you do together?" I interrupted her. "Will you both go to hell?"
Isis suddenly fell silent. Her gaze became hollow, as if all hope had drained from her. She slowly sat back in her chair, her whole body seeming to lose its strength.
"You ruined everything for me, Danica," Isis said in a low, despairing voice.
"You destroyed yourself, Isis."
I responded calmly, "You were too greedy. You wanted too much, and in the end, you got nothing."
Isis said nothing more. She simply sat there quietly, staring blankly ahead.
I stood up, ready to leave.
But the next second, I heard a sound behind me.
My heart raced, and I quickly turned around.
Isis had collapsed on the floor. There was a pool of blood next to her head, and her eyes were staring at me in despair.
"Isis!" I cried out, but I soon realized it was too late.
Her lips trembled slightly as she struggled to say something.
I moved closer, trying to hear her words.
"I remember now… I remember everything… you're not…"
Her voice was faint and faltering.
Hearing this, my heart jolted.
But Isis never finished her sentence.
Her eyes gradually dimmed, frozen in a state of emptiness and despair.
Then, she took her final breath, her life ending in the despair and madness she had created.
The prison guards rushed in, gathering around Isis's body and starting to deal with the situation.
I stood aside, overwhelmed with mixed emotions.
"Are you alright?"
A guard's voice broke through my thoughts.
I shook my head. "I'm fine. I just didn't expect it to end like this."
The guard nodded and indicated I was free to leave.
As I stepped out of the prison, the sky had already darkened, and the streetlights were beginning to flicker on.
I took a deep breath, letting the cool night air brush across my face.
At that moment, I felt nothing but satisfaction.
Isis's death marked the beginning of my new life!
Not long after, at the Mann family's meeting, my grandfather stood tall on the platform, his eyes sweeping over every family member present.
I stood beside him, my heart filled with anticipation and nervousness.
"Today, I have an important decision to announce,"
My grandfather's voice echoed through the spacious conference room.
All eyes were on him, waiting for what would come next.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to hand over the management of Mann Group to Alex."
As soon as my grandfather spoke, the room erupted.
Alex, once the overlooked and marginalized member of the family, had now become the leader of the family business.
He stood up, bowed to my grandfather, then turned to me, his eyes full of gratitude.
"At the same time, I would also like to announce that my granddaughter Danica will be awarded 5% of the group's shares, along with two properties located in the city center."
My grandfather continued.
A warmth spread through me. This decision of his was not only a material guarantee but also a show of emotional support.
He was telling everyone that I was still his most cherished granddaughter in the Mann family.
Alex approached me and extended his hand, "Danica, thank you. Without you, I wouldn't have found Ewan so quickly, nor would I be here today."
I smiled and shook his hand. "Uncle Alex, you deserve this."
No matter what, I wouldn't make things easy for Harvey.
Didn't he want the Mann family fortune?
Well, I was going to stand against him.
After the meeting ended, I sent someone to deliver the news to him.
I thought it might rattle him, but the next news I heard about him was that he had been unable to adapt to prison life and had ultimately been tortured to death.
I knew that was just an excuse given to the public.
It was because of me that he met such an end.
As for Ricky, I found someone reliable to ensure he "received the proper treatment" and lived a life worse than death.
In this life, I wanted him to experience the same suffering he inflicted on others.
And when he got out of prison, the Swanson family's eldest son wouldn't let him off either.
Now that the eldest son had taken full control of the family assets, how could he forgive a scheming half-brother?
As for my mother, I never visited her, not even once.
She had been willing to sacrifice me for Harvey and Isis, even willing to hurt my grandfather.
I couldn't forgive her, nor did I want to see her again.
Later, I began to use the shares and properties my grandfather had given me to plan my new life.
I invested in some projects and participated in various charitable activities, giving back to society in my own way.
As time passed, I gradually withdrew from the conflicts within the Mann family and began living a peaceful and fulfilling life.
In this life, I cherished every moment and treasured the hard-won freedom and happiness.
I often recalled my grandfather's words.
He told me that true wealth wasn't money, but the ability to live according to your own wishes.
And now, I had finally achieved that.
My life was no longer centered around hatred and revenge.
From now on, it would be nothing but good days ahead.
