Chapter 9

I stood at the entrance of the Swanson family kitchen, watching as the housemaid sat on the floor, crying. Her eyes were filled with fear and regret.

I walked over to her and softly reassured her, "Don't be afraid. Tell us what happened."

Through her sobs, the housemaid slowly revealed the entire incident.

It turned out that Ricky and Isis had orchestrated everything.

They had paid the housemaid a large sum of money to poison tonight's dinner, with the intended targets being Old Mr. Swanson and the eldest son of the Swanson family.

Ricky stood nearby, his face dark and menacing. He tried to take all the blame for Isis and even shouted at me, "Danica, you crazy woman! I told you, this was all me. It has nothing to do with Isis!"

I looked at him coldly, without a hint of emotion.

"Ricky, you're still putting on a show. How laughable. Do you really think this will protect Isis?"

Ricky was about to argue further, but Old Mr. Swanson had heard enough.

He ordered his men to lock Ricky in confinement and instructed the staff to call the police and send Isis to the police station for investigation.

When Isis heard this, she completely lost her mind.

She rushed over and pointed her finger in my face, screaming, "Danica, you wretched woman! You've ruined everything for me!"

I looked at her calmly, without any emotion. "Isis, you've brought this upon yourself. I'm only doing what's right."

Isis tried to continue cursing, but the police quickly took her away.

As I watched her leave, I knew the battle was finally coming to an end.

I wasted no time leaving the Swanson family estate, carrying the token that Ewan had given me, and went to find Alex.

Along the way, I overheard that my mother had also been taken by the police to give a statement.

I knew then that my grandfather was finally closing the net.

He was ready to clean house and put an end to the family's internal strife.

Soon, I arrived at Alex's residence and knocked on his door.

The door opened slowly, and Alex stood there, his eyes cautious.

"Danica, what are you doing here?"

I pulled the token from my pocket and handed it to him. "Uncle, I have something important to tell you."

Alex took the token and examined it closely. His expression grew serious.

He gestured for me to come in, then closed the door.

"This… isn't this the family heirloom?" Alex asked.

I nodded and began explaining Ewan's background to him.

Alex was silent for a long time after hearing the story.

I knew the news was sudden for him, but he eventually accepted the truth.

"I will go see Ewan," Alex said with determination in his voice.

I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Ewan would finally get the family and love she deserved.

And I, too, had gained my uncle's support.

"Thank you, Danica."

Alex looked at me, his eyes filled with gratitude.

I shook my head. "You don't need to thank me, Uncle. Just help Grandfather when the time comes."

After talking a while longer, I left Alex's home, feeling a sense of peace.

I knew the conflict between the Mann and Swanson families was nearing its end, and I could finally start a new life.

When I returned to the Mann family estate, I found my grandfather sitting on the couch in the living room.

His eyes revealed a trace of weariness, but there was more determination than anything else.

"Danica, you've done well."

There was a note of pride in my grandfather's voice.

I sat down beside him and said softly, "Grandfather, it's all coming to an end."

He nodded. "Yes, soon it will all be over. The Mann family will return to peace."

I rested my head on his shoulder, feeling a sense of calm wash over me.

With the justice system doing its work, my brother Harvey and my mother were both imprisoned for attempting to poison my grandfather, conspiring to harm family elders, and abusing family resources.

As for Isis, she was still living in her dream world, believing she would marry Harvey and become the chairman's wife of the Mann family.

I stood in the visitation room at the prison, looking through the glass at Isis on the other side.

She still wore that faint, unrealistic smile, as if everything was still under her control.

"Isis, are you still dreaming?" I asked coldly.

Only then did Isis notice me. Her smile froze, and a flash of panic crossed her eyes.

"Danica, what are you doing here?"

I sneered, "I'm here to tell you something you may not know yet."

Isis's face turned pale. "What is it?"

"The ones you relied on-Harvey and Ricky-are both in prison. They're being judged by the law for attempting to murder my grandfather."

Isis's smile disappeared completely, her eyes filled with disbelief. "That's impossible! This can't be happening!"

"Nothing is impossible. Everything you've done has come to nothing now," I continued.

Isis's face twisted in anger. She began to frantically bang on the glass, trying to get my attention.

"You're lying! Harvey promised me-he's going to become the heir of the Mann family, and we will get married, we will-"
