Chapter 151
Victoria thought Martin was quite hypocritical. There was already a blood feud between them, and he wanted to torture her to death anyway, yet he had to put on this act of caring deeply about her.
But Victoria didn't argue back. She just sneered and shook her head, letting the thin blanket cover her.
She closed her eyes, pretending to sleep.
Martin knew, of course, that she was faking it to avoid talking to him.
He didn't call her out on it or make a fuss. He wondered if it was because she was pregnant. Maybe that's why she was getting more temperamental and sharp-tongued.
Mia, in the back seat, had no idea what they were talking about. She only knew they looked very close.
He let Victoria lean on his shoulder.
Mia was grinding her teeth in anger. Jealousy twisted her face. She'd been by Martin's side for so many years! He'd never even touched her hand, yet Victoria could sleep on his shoulder?
The difference between people was really huge.
Three hours later, the plane landed at Rainbow Town airport.
Victoria had finally fallen asleep, so Martin didn't wake her. Instead, he took off his dark suit jacket, draped it over her, then carefully bent down to pick her up and carried her off the plane.
He'd originally booked the hotel they'd stayed at years ago, but Victoria was still asleep, and that hotel was too far from the airport, so he found a hotel near the airport instead.
He got a presidential suite.
What he didn't know was that Mia had secretly followed them and checked into the same hotel.
In the presidential suite.
Martin had just laid Victoria on the bed when his phone suddenly rang in his pocket.
He frowned and glanced at Victoria on the bed, sleeping soundly, then took out his phone.
After seeing the caller ID, he hung up.
Right after, Martin received a message from Mia: [Martin, I want to talk to you.]
He ignored it.
Mia's call came again.
Martin's expression showed slight displeasure, but he answered, deliberately lowering his voice, "I'm not in Emerald City right now. Whatever it is, we'll talk when I get back."
"I know. I'm at the same hotel as you right now! Martin, didn't you tell me to think it over and give you an answer? I can tell you now."
"Send me your room number. I'll come over now," Martin said coldly, striding out of the presidential suite on his long legs.
The moment the suite door closed, Victoria's eyes snapped open.
Didn't Martin say he only brought her?
Why was there a woman's voice on the phone?
Victoria got out of bed and left the presidential suite, following Martin from a distance.
He walked to a suite at the end of the hallway and gently knocked on the door.
From Victoria's angle, she could clearly see the door being opened!
The person who opened it was none other than Mia!
Mia saw Martin and her face lit up with a bright smile.
Martin didn't stand on ceremony either. He went straight into the room and closed the door.
Victoria's eyes moved. Her mind felt like it was exploding!
He really did bring Mia!
She'd almost believed what he said on the plane.
What were he and Mia doing in that room, alone together?
Victoria didn't dare think about it. She didn't even have the courage to knock and demand answers!
Because he'd told her not to provoke Mia.
Between Mia and Victoria, Martin would never choose Victoria!
Victoria stumbled back to the suite in a daze, her weak body slowly sliding down along the door.
She slumped on the floor.
Tears fell despite herself!
Victoria's mind was in chaos.
After everything she'd been through, she still couldn't remain calm and detached.
Meanwhile, in Mia's suite.
She looked at Martin honestly. Money really was a wonderful thing.
When she met him at the orphanage, he was still a shifty-eyed teenager wearing worn jeans, bullied and excluded by the other orphanage kids.
But where was any trace of that old awkwardness in Martin now?
He wore a perfectly tailored suit, an expensive watch on his wrist, his gaze cold and sharp. Just sitting there without speaking, he gave off an oppressive presence.
Impossible to see through.
When Mia came, she'd already changed her strategy. She had to stay here first before she could make trouble!
"What's your answer?" Martin spoke first, frowning as he asked her.
Mia smiled at him, her smile proper and gracious, gentle, just like he remembered, "Martin, remember what I said before? When I gave you that five million dollars, it was because I thought you were worth it. I didn't help you expecting something in return. Love is a one-person thing anyway. If you like Victoria, just stay with her."
"She needs your protection right now, and she's carrying your child. You taking her side shows you're a man of honor and loyalty. I'm fine with it. You protect her, I'll protect you. You don't need to worry about me."
"As for the money, I don't need it. I don't want money to dirty my feelings."
"I came here to tell you, Martin, I'm completely ready to just be friends with you."
Martin seemed relieved. His expression softened considerably, "You'll meet the right man."
"Martin, we can't be husband and wife, but we can be friends, right?"
"Yes."
"Lately I keep thinking about the days when Victoria and I were best friends, traveling together, so I came too. You don't mind having me along, do you?" Mia said openly.
Martin's brow, which had just relaxed, furrowed again.
Victoria was pregnant and already prone to being sensitive and moody.
If Victoria found out, she'd probably misunderstand again!
"No, she'll misunderstand! You'd better move to a different hotel. I'll pay!" Martin's thin lips slowly spoke hurtful words.
Mia's fingers inside her sleeves clenched tightly into fists.
But her smile was flawless, "No problem, I'll move then. You two are the married couple. If I tag along, with Victoria's personality, she'll definitely misunderstand. I was thoughtless and didn't think it through."
"Mia, thank you for being understanding."
"Why be formal with me? As long as you keep getting better, I'm happy. It proves I had good judgment in helping you back then. That I know how to pick men. Maybe we really just weren't meant to be," Mia smiled.
Martin returned to the presidential suite.
He saw Victoria sitting on the bed, leaning against a pillow, staring into space.
"Why didn't you sleep a bit longer?" Martin saw her piercing gaze and his eyelid twitched.
Victoria stared at him intently, asking softly, "Where did you just go?"
His expression changed slightly, and he didn't answer right away.
"Where did you just go?" Victoria pressed, her tone growing heavier.
Her attitude gave Martin the feeling that she knew where he'd gone, but she'd been asleep just now—how could she know?
Besides, she was pregnant and not sleeping well. Their relationship was already strained. Telling the truth would obviously do no good.
"Does this question need that much thought?" Victoria mocked with a curl of her lips.
