Chapter 148
The rice in Victoria's throat suddenly caught, accompanied by a bitter, sour feeling.
If she remembered correctly, this was the first time in over a year of cold war that Martin had spoken to her so calmly and gently!
She had become like this because of him!
Yet facing his sudden concern, Victoria's long-numb heart felt like it had received nourishment, experiencing a warmth she hadn't felt in ages.
Tears welled up in her eyes again, but she didn't want to look so pathetic in front of Martin. She forced the tears back and ate her rice in big mouthfuls. "Face wash got in my eyes. It's nothing."
"Eat more food, Kaida made all this for you." Martin put food in her bowl.
Soon her bowl was piled high like a small mountain with various dishes.
Could there really be something wrong with her test results?
Was that why he was suddenly being so nice to her?
Victoria wondered to herself.
She silently ate everything in her bowl clean.
Kaida picked up the dishes and went to wash them in the kitchen.
Victoria looked at Martin leaning back in his chair and blinked her dry eyes. "Can you tell me the results now?"
"Yes." Martin said, "Wait a moment."
Then he got up and headed toward the master bedroom.
Half a minute later, he walked over holding a paper and handed it to her. "Take a look."
Victoria's heart suddenly tightened, making it hard to breathe!
She didn't dare imagine what her reaction would be if the test results really showed depression or bipolar disorder!
After a beat, she took the paper from his hand, looked down, scanned the test results, and looked up at him in surprise. "I'm actually normal?"
Martin nodded with a grunt.
Victoria bit her lip, but she remembered the options she had chosen in the test were clearly problematic!
She even had suicidal tendencies!
Terry's expression had been so serious, yet the result was normal?
"But I haven't slept for over ten days! Terry's reaction didn't look like I was fine!" Victoria guessed, "I want to go to another hospital for a recheck."
His face showed displeasure. "Terry looked serious because you're pregnant and still don't know how to take care of yourself. Being overthinking and sensitive during pregnancy is a normal reaction, you don't need to overthink it."
The light in Victoria's eyes instantly dimmed. He actually thought she was overthinking?
"As for rechecking, I don't think it's necessary. It's all in your head. If you adjust your mindset, you'll naturally be able to sleep." Martin said, getting up and walking to the entryway, picking up a plastic bag from the cabinet, then carrying it over.
He placed the plastic bag on the dining table, then took out over a dozen medicine boxes.
After opening them, he personally prepared her medicine according to the instructions.
"Is this sleep aid medication?" Victoria asked, confused.
He said, "No, this is medication to protect the pregnancy."
"You really care about the child in my belly!"
"My child already has no mother to care for them, so of course I, as the father, have to care!" Martin's words were implying something about her negotiating conditions with him.
Victoria wasn't stupid, she could of course hear it.
She picked up a medicine box from the plastic bag, flipped it over, and casually looked at it.
The contraindications stated 'Cancer patients must not use this medication.'
'Patients with depressive tendencies cannot take this.'
Victoria gripped the medicine box tightly. The corners of the box were sharp, hurting her palm, but not as much as her heart hurt.
Depressive tendencies!
Cancer patients!
Wasn't that her!
"Take the medicine."
With Martin's low voice, a broad, warm palm held a handful of capsules and small pills of various colors.
Victoria felt very stifled inside. She raised her eyes and looked at the expressionless Martin with a glimmer of hope. "Martin, can I not take these medicines?"
"No." He answered quickly, without any hesitation.
Victoria smiled bitterly. "I really can't take these medicines!"
She would die!
The instructions clearly stated it!
"Reason." Martin frowned.
Victoria bit her lip. "I have depressive tendencies, believe me."
"Really?" His voice was light and cold, as if these things had nothing to do with him at all.
Martin felt a bit annoyed hearing Victoria bring up old topics again.
He had coaxed her, softened his tone, personally made her breakfast, accompanied her to see a psychologist, personally served her food, and personally prepared her medicine. What more did she want?
Why did she have to throw a tantrum just over taking pregnancy medication?
"Martin, must this child be born?" Victoria asked again.
Martin laughed, "Victoria, we've already signed the contract. I've given you all the benefits you wanted, and now you want to back out? We're not even divorced yet, isn't it natural for you to give your husband a child?"
Right, the contract was signed.
The benefits were taken.
She should honor the agreement.
But feeling miserable inside, Victoria smiled sadly. "Are you really making me have this baby because you like the child?"
"Victoria, I'll say it one more time, take the medicine." Martin's tone was clearly impatient.
But Victoria was being stubborn with him. She wanted to hear him admit it personally, so she could give up hope.
"Answer me, Martin. Are you making me have this baby to torture me? Or do you really like this child?" Victoria emphasized her tone again.
Martin didn't respond to her, but got up to pour her a glass of warm water.
What a heartless woman. Wasn't it obvious how much he valued this child?
Victoria was still questioning his feelings for the child.
The water glass was placed in front of her, and Martin held out the medicine in his palm again. "Take the medicine."
"You don't actually love this child at all, do you? You just want to torture me. The more I don't want to have it, the more you force me to! You just want to see me in pain, right?" Victoria looked up, staring at him intently, asking back.
Facing Victoria throwing such accusations at him, he felt inexplicably irritated and answered against his heart. "You already know, why are you still asking? At least you have some self-awareness!"
These words cut Victoria's heart bloody, leaving her unable to react for a long time.
Victoria, oh Victoria, do you hear clearly now!
He really knows everything!
He simply wants to torture you, to watch you completely disappear from this world.
Mia wasn't wrong at all, and she wasn't sowing discord. It was all true, everything she said was true.
"Do you have anything else you want to ask? Just ask everything at once, I don't want to answer these boring questions in the future." He mocked.
Victoria pressed her lips together. "I won't ask anymore."
"Then can you take the medicine now? Victoria, please have some sense of contract. We signed an agreement, we have to follow it. Once the child is born and we get the divorce certificate, we'll be even. Isn't that what you want?"
