Chapter 196 Proposal

Chapter 196 Proposal

Louis lowered his head, but a cold glint flashed in his eyes. He'd already guessed what lay behind this. "This kind of drug is certainly uncommon domestically—after all, it's illegal. And how could it suddenly end up in his hands? Even if he had purchasing channels, he wouldn't have the capability."

"What's interesting is that my trip abroad was quite fruitful. I uncovered one of Mrs. King's operations, which involved illegal drugs. However, we've basically dismantled it now, and I've already informed the International Security Bureau—they're conducting an inventory."

Leona looked shocked, never imagining the situation would be this complex.

She'd heard Evelyn mention before that Layla had some influence both in Celestria and domestically. But she never expected it would involve illegal drugs.

No wonder Louis had been so busy lately—this explained everything.

After a moment, Evelyn's medication change was complete, and Louis and Leona returned to the room.

Seeing his concerned expression, Evelyn put on a nonchalant air. "Don't be so nervous. I'm perfectly fine, aren't I? It didn't hit anything vital at all. She's just being overly anxious, making it seem more dramatic than it is."

Hearing this, Leona rolled her eyes hard. She was about to say something when Evelyn glared her into silence.

"You're still busy abroad—you shouldn't have come back at this time."

Louis couldn't care less about that. The moment he learned something had happened to Evelyn, he'd rushed back immediately.

"She didn't tell me. After all, when something this major happens, it's easy enough to find out."

Leona looked relieved. "Thank goodness you're speaking sense. Otherwise, she'd really think I was the one who called you here."

"Alright, now that you have someone to take care of you, this third wheel will make her exit."

Before leaving, Leona couldn't resist teasing them mercilessly, then departed.

The hospital room door had barely closed when Louis, who'd had his back turned, suddenly spun around and dropped to one knee.

The sudden gesture left Evelyn stunned. Then she saw Louis produce an exquisite box containing a jade ring, and her mind went blank.

"Marry me!"

Was he proposing?

Evelyn seemed at a loss, somewhat flustered. Though she'd imagined Louis proposing to her before, she'd never expected it would happen in a hospital.

"Why? So suddenly?"

It wasn't that she was unwilling—rather, she knew Louis's position. She feared that if he proposed so openly, the Windsors wouldn't allow it.

Seeing Evelyn's concern, Louis quickly explained, "This is the Windsor family's heirloom ring, meant for the future daughter-in-law. I felt proposing with this ring showed more sincerity. After we're married, I'll get you a big diamond ring to make up for it."

Louis's words left Evelyn somewhere between tears and laughter. That wasn't what she cared about at all.

"Get up first," Evelyn shook her head. She never doubted Louis's sincerity toward her. "I'm just afraid that doing this might put Windsor Corporation in a difficult position."

Louis suddenly understood, his face showing helplessness. "You don't think I stole this ring, do you?"

Caught in her thoughts, Evelyn looked embarrassed. She wanted to deny it, but it was already too late.

Louis looked helpless, though the affection in his eyes never faded. "This trip abroad, I dismantled some of Mrs. King's overseas operations. The Windsor family now recognizes my capabilities. With Marcus's approval, who would dare stand in my way? So no one will dare interfere with my marriage anymore."

As he spoke, Louis slipped the ring onto Evelyn's finger.

Looking at the ring on her hand, Evelyn's expression seemed dazed. For a moment, she couldn't believe this was real.

During the two weeks she spent hospitalized, hiding away in the hospital, her days had been relatively peaceful. Aside from some work matters that required her attention, basically no one dared disturb her.

But during this time, the outside world had been anything but quiet.

Through news reports during this period, she learned that a global criminal organization had been destroyed, with multiple strongholds taken down.

Because this organization's reach was so extensive and involved multiple channels, with drugs sold to numerous countries simultaneously, all affected nations had begun coordinating joint efforts to address the issue and negotiate compensation for those harmed by the drugs.

During this period, Windsor Corporation actively cooperated, enjoying unprecedented prominence.

By the time Evelyn returned home, the butler had already brought out the prepared wedding dress.

Seeing this haute couture gown, Evelyn suddenly remembered—she'd agreed to Louis's proposal, though she hadn't expected him to have the wedding dress ready already.

"Mr. Windsor has arranged everything during this time—the wedding dress, rings, banquet, and venue are all confirmed. However, the guest list still needs your final approval."

As the butler said this, his face showed unusual pride, though also some fatigue.

Only then did Evelyn realize that during her hospital stay, Louis had already eagerly arranged everything.

Not only that, he'd also publicly announced their engagement.

Evelyn was stunned for a moment. She knew Louis was always reliable, but she hadn't expected him to be this thorough.

"How is it? Do you like the wedding dress I chose?"

Louis walked over, and the butler tactfully left.

The two embraced.

Evelyn let him hold her—only this way could she feel the reality of it all.

"I love it. I love anything you choose."

They smiled at each other, both looking forward to the upcoming wedding.

During their conversation, Louis suddenly brought up Hannah. "The Celestria matter is basically resolved now. Multiple agencies domestically are investigating. With Mrs. King's downfall, Hannah has lost her backing. After being so arrogant before and offending so many people, now everyone's turning against her."

Evelyn wasn't surprised by Hannah's fate—she could even imagine Hannah now, like a rat crossing the street, hiding who knows where.

"A professional medical team has already begun intervening. It probably won't be long before Ryan wakes up."

"Do you want to go to the hospital to see him?"

Louis's words caught Evelyn off guard. She'd nearly forgotten—Ryan was still lying in the hospital.

"If he can wake up, that's his good fortune. If he can't, there's nothing to be done about it. I'm increasingly believing that sometimes things are predetermined by fate."
