Chapter 195 Burning with Anxiety, Return to the Country Immediately

"I've never seen anyone so eager to humiliate themselves."

As Leona spoke, she handed the meal to Evelyn, but Evelyn suddenly stood up. "I want to be discharged."

Leona immediately grew anxious. "Can you give me a break? You can barely lift your arm right now. Besides, even if it didn't hit anything vital, you still took a knife wound. You can't just brush that off."

Evelyn had no desire to stay in the hospital—she had her reasons for wanting to leave urgently. "I can't stay here forever. What if Louis finds out? He'll definitely worry."

Hearing this, Leona rolled her eyes dramatically. In the end, Evelyn was still worried about causing Louis trouble.

"When will you start thinking about yourself for once? You're in this condition—shouldn't you stay for observation? If you go home and let the children see you like this, won't that frighten them? Louis may be abroad, but he's not completely cut off from the world. There's no way to hide this from him."

Evelyn sighed helplessly. Leona had a point.

With no other choice, she temporarily left the children with Sophie, planning to bring them back once her injury had healed enough.

For several days, the children visited her at the hospital daily, and Sophie took excellent care of them.

"Even though you're not there, it's like you're by my side constantly. These two kids never stop talking about you for a moment."

Evelyn laughed at this and pinched Julie and Leo's cheeks affectionately. "You two need to behave while staying at your teacher's house. Once Mommy is discharged, I'll bring you home, okay?"

The children were quite sensible. Knowing Evelyn wasn't feeling well, they never made a fuss.

"When are you planning to tell him?"

Sophie's words made the children realize that Louis still didn't know about Evelyn's injury.

Evelyn shook her head, unwilling to do so. "He's abroad dealing with Windsor Corporation matters—he's stressed enough already. I can't keep bothering him. Besides, if he has time, he'll naturally see the news. If he doesn't know, it just means he's been too busy. I don't want to add to his troubles."

"Look, I'm recovering quickly, aren't I?"

As she spoke, Evelyn lifted her arm. After three days, though the wound hadn't completely healed, it was much better than when she'd first been injured.

She could fully raise her arm now. Combined with the anti-inflammatory injections and proper wound care that prevented infection, her recovery was faster than expected.

"You know your own body best—do what you think is right. But let me be clear upfront: I can help watch the children, but I won't let adult drama affect them."

Sophie was speaking from the children's perspective. No matter what happened between adults, children were inevitably affected.

Especially Julie and Leo—both were clever and more mature than their peers, understanding things earlier.

Even when certain things went unsaid, the children could figure them out.

Meanwhile, in Celestria.

Louis stood by the window gazing outside when his phone suddenly rang. Seeing an unfamiliar number, he hesitated before answering.

The callers were none other than Julie and Leo. The children spoke over each other, recounting what had happened.

Louis's expression darkened after hearing everything, hatred flickering in his eyes. His hand clenched into a fist at his side.

He never imagined that in his absence, someone would dare harm Evelyn—something he absolutely could not tolerate.

The call had barely ended when the closed door suddenly opened. A man in a black suit stood outside and said coldly, "Mr. Marcus requests your presence."

Irritation flashed across Louis's face, but he followed anyway.

Upon entering, coughing sounds filled the room. Marcus looked extremely frail, yet this time Louis's eyes held no sympathy.

"I'm going back."

Hearing that Louis intended to leave, Marcus coughed several more times, even more violently than before.

He'd thought Louis would stay a few more days. He never expected him to leave so soon.

"Have you really decided? You'd give up the entire Windsor Corporation for a woman..."

Before Marcus could finish, Louis suddenly laughed contemptuously, as if seeing through everything without saying it. "Just because I don't say something doesn't mean I don't know. Since you're fine, my leaving won't delay anything. Besides, I've told you many times—there's only one person I'll marry in this lifetime, and that's Evelyn."

"Stop trying to fool me with these clumsy tricks, and stop trying to persuade me. The facts are right in front of us—the family you value so highly isn't as clean as you imagined. Thank goodness we discovered this early. Otherwise, we would've been indirectly cooperating with Mrs. King."

Louis's words made Marcus's expression change dramatically. Only then did he realize Louis had known all along that he was faking his illness.

"When did you figure it out?"

Marcus thought he'd been convincing. Moreover, Louis had come and stayed by his side this whole time, suggesting he'd believed it initially.

His question only made Louis more displeased. "Because of you, I couldn't stay home. Evelyn got injured, and now I must return immediately. Take care of yourself."

Early the next morning, Louis appeared outside the hospital room. Just as he was about to push the door open, he heard Leona's voice inside. "Doctor, be gentle. If not, let me do it."

Hearing Leona's words, Louis felt inexplicably nervous and burst through the door, only to catch Evelyn changing clothes.

Everyone was surprised by his appearance. Fortunately, Leona reacted quickly and pushed him back out.

"Why did you drag me out?"

Seeing Louis's anxious state, Leona didn't need to guess—he clearly knew everything.

"Louis, look how nervous you are. If you'd stayed in there, the doctor wouldn't have been able to treat her properly. Aren't you curious about what actually happened?"

Louis forced himself to calm down and listened patiently as Leona explained the entire incident.

"Actually, ever since Richard was released, he never appeared—until suddenly showing up now. I already found that suspicious. But tell me, do you think this kind of drug is common?"
