Chapter 197 Even Regret Is Too Late

Evelyn and Louis still came to the hospital, where a professional medical team was examining Ryan in the ward.

It wasn't out of concern for him, but because Ryan had become the key figure.

Once he woke up, many things would be resolved, and by then, everything Hannah had done would be exposed.

"Let me in, I need to see my son."

A commotion suddenly erupted behind them. Evelyn turned around and sure enough, saw Karen throwing a tantrum.

As she spoke, Karen pushed through the crowd and spotted Evelyn. Ignoring everyone's attempts to stop her, she dropped to her knees, her tone almost pleading, "Please, I'm begging you, save my son. For the sake of your past relationship, you can't just stand by and watch him die, can you?"

Watching Karen's hysterical state, Evelyn knew she must have learned everything by now.

Thinking back to how Karen had made things difficult for her in the past, and seeing her now, it felt almost ironic.

Karen struggled with all her might, crawling to Evelyn's side. Just as she was about to reach out and grab her, Evelyn casually stepped aside.

Seeing her resolute expression, a flash of hatred appeared in Karen's eyes. "I know you hate me. But don't forget, Ryan is the biological father of your two children. If you refuse to save him, aren't you afraid the children will resent you later?"

Hearing this, Evelyn felt both helpless and amused. She never imagined Karen would try to threaten her using the children she'd given birth to.

"Whether your son's life can be saved isn't up to me. But I should remind you—once Ryan wakes up, there'll be no hiding what he did helping Mrs. King with money laundering. When that time comes, we'll settle both old and new scores together!"

Karen was instantly dumbstruck. Before she could say anything more, Louis's men dragged her away.

After returning from the hospital, Evelyn was in high spirits and went with Louis to pick up the two children.

Thanks to Sophie's care during this time, both Julie and Leo were doing well.

Watching the two children's innocent and carefree manner, Sophie felt somewhat worried. "I know a lot has happened recently, so Mrs. King has really fallen. But what about Harry?"

For a moment, Evelyn didn't know how to answer. After all, this matter was beyond their capabilities.

Ryan and Hannah had committed crimes and should face the appropriate legal consequences.

Though Harry was innocent, how to arrange for him wasn't something the two of them could interfere with too much.

"Someone like Hannah might very well use the child to escape punishment. If that's really the case, then I wouldn't mind adopting Harry."

Sophie's words surprised Evelyn. She hadn't expected that after all these years, Sophie hadn't changed—still sharp-tongued on the surface but actually warm-hearted.

"Don't worry, I've already had someone monitor Hannah's movements. If there's any news, they'll notify us."

With Louis's assurance, Sophie's anxious heart finally settled.

Three days later.

When Evelyn and Louis arrived at the hospital after receiving word, Harry was sitting alone to the side, staring blankly into space, completely ignoring whatever the female officer beside him was saying.

"Hannah is really heartless. What kind of mother does this?"

It turned out Hannah and the butler had tried to flee by boat, but there had been an accident. The boat sank, and by the time they were pulled from the water, both were already dead.

Fortunately, before leaving, Hannah had heartlessly abandoned Harry and didn't take him on the boat. Otherwise, Harry would probably be dead by now too.

Hearing the officer's words, Evelyn's heart clenched. She never imagined Hannah could actually be this cruel.

Even if Harry wasn't Ryan's biological son, he was still a child she'd carried for ten months and given birth to. To think there could be such a heartless mother.

Evelyn pushed open the door and carefully walked over. Harry, who had shown no reaction before, looked up and upon seeing Evelyn, threw himself into her arms and burst into tears.

Seeing this scene, everyone else in the room felt heartbroken too. Such a young age to experience so much.

After Evelyn's comforting, Harry gradually fell asleep. Looking at him so small, his face covered in tear stains, so thin—Evelyn truly felt sorry for him.

"Do you two have any plans to adopt him?"

The female officer in charge of the handover asked Evelyn's opinion.

She could tell Harry was quite dependent on Evelyn, and for a child who had suffered major psychological trauma, it was best to stay with someone familiar.

Evelyn didn't answer directly. Though she sympathized with Harry, she also had children of her own.

No one knew whether Harry's heart had been too severely damaged, or if he would be affected by today's events in the future. She couldn't risk her own children's safety.

Moreover, Sophie had previously expressed her willingness to adopt Harry, so she still needed to ask her opinion.

"To be honest, a friend of mine wants to adopt him, and she's also his teacher. I think she'd be more suitable than me."

"But either way, we'll work it out. We definitely won't let Harry face this alone."

Seeing they already had arrangements, the officer said nothing more.

Soon Sophie, who had received the news, rushed over. Seeing such a small child in this state, she too felt deeply distressed.

Evelyn truthfully told her what the officer had said. Learning of everything Hannah had done, Sophie couldn't help but curse, "I said long ago that Hannah was no good. I never imagined she'd actually abandon her own son. But it's fortunate she didn't take Harry with her, otherwise..."

At this point, neither of them dared continue that thought.

"The officer just asked if I was willing to adopt Harry. You mentioned it before too, so I wanted to ask your opinion."

Sophie showed not a moment's hesitation and immediately expressed her willingness to adopt Harry, following along to handle the adoption procedures. After all, with police involvement, everything could be simplified.

Harry in the hospital still didn't know what had happened. By the time Sophie and the officer returned, she had already become his legal guardian.

Just then, Evelyn suddenly received a call from Ryan's attending physician. "Through these past few days of treatment, he's awake now. But he's been asking for you since waking up, and he's shouting. We really can't restrain him anymore."

"Alright, I understand."

Evelyn was remarkably calm. She had long anticipated this day would come.
