Chapter 192 Borrow a Knife to Kill Someone
Chapter 192 Borrow a Knife to Kill Someone
"Are you out of your mind? Don't you realize how many people surround Evelyn now? How could I possibly have a chance to strike?"
Hannah glared at him viciously, her eyes filled with obvious disgust.
During their conversations, he constantly took advantage of opportunities to touch her inappropriately.
But she had to admit, this estate manager still had some use to her.
"Even if things overseas are complicated, can't she send even one message? I can't shake the feeling that something has happened."
The manager's hand paused mid-cigarette. He looked up at her, his eyes carrying a hint of menace and calculation.
Hannah then shook her head, dismissing her own thoughts. "No, that's impossible. It can't be. No matter what, she wouldn't betray me."
Following Layla's instructions, Hannah had never contacted Skylark Pharmaceuticals.
Even if something did happen, given their relationship, they wouldn't expose her.
"I didn't expect you to be so timid. I thought you'd seize the opportunity."
Hearing the provocation in the manager's words, Hannah ground her teeth in anger. "Stop being so passive-aggressive. You think I don't want to? Evelyn has so many people around her now, plus Louis protecting her. How could I possibly succeed?"
The manager shook his head helplessly. "Why do you insist on doing it yourself? Don't forget there's someone living in that house."
Before leaving, the manager deliberately dropped a hint.
Seeing the flash of murderous intent in Hannah's eyes, he knew she'd taken his meaning.
The weekend arrived.
Evelyn arranged to go shopping with Leona and the two children.
The group stopped at a street food stall. Watching the children happily eating their frozen treats, both women felt particularly cheerful.
After playing with Julie and Leo for a while, Leona couldn't help feeling wistful. "Honestly, I thought you wouldn't have many chances to go shopping with me anymore. Why aren't you with Louis?"
Hearing this, Evelyn felt somewhat helpless. She could tell Leona was a bit jealous. "You're my only close friend—can you stop being jealous over everything?"
"I heard there's been some trouble with the company overseas, plus the Windsor family hasn't been quiet lately. Raymond is hospitalized, Marcus's health is poor, and Louis has to go back. "
At this point, Evelyn shook her head helplessly. Just hearing about it all gave her a headache.
Leona's expression suddenly turned serious, concern evident on her face. Seeing the children playing happily and not paying attention, she lowered her voice. "Tell me, what are you really planning to do?"
Evelyn looked confused.
Leona wore an expression of exasperation. "If Marcus really forces you two to separate, what will you do? Don't take this lightly—haven't there been enough similar situations?"
Evelyn knew she was worried about her, and in truth, she had considered these things.
"I understand all that, and I've already thought it through. If that day really comes, I won't make things difficult for him. We'll just separate."
Seeing Evelyn speak so casually, even Leona felt it was unfair to her.
"Have you two discussed this? Or did you decide on your own?"
When she didn't answer, Leona already guessed. "I'm not trying to lecture you, but relationships involve two people, not just you alone. Besides, you think not burdening him is what's best for him, but how do you know what he actually wants?"
Leona sighed helplessly, looking at the children with growing melancholy. "Evelyn, why is your love life so difficult?"
Seeing her acting like a wise elder, Evelyn couldn't take it anymore. "Stop lecturing me. Don't patronize me."
As the two women laughed and chatted, someone suddenly appeared from a corner and rushed toward them.
The person's clothes looked shabby and worn, and he was extremely thin, heading straight for Evelyn and her group.
Fortunately, Julie and Leo reacted quickly, instinctively moving behind Evelyn.
After recognizing the person, Evelyn was somewhat surprised—it was her father.
"What are you doing here?"
Seeing Evelyn's guarded expression, Richard smiled awkwardly, though his eyes kept circling around the two children. "I really missed you, and wanted to see my two grandchildren."
Richard suddenly crouched down, reaching out toward the children, trying to hug them.
Leona immediately stepped in front, shielding the children behind her.
Evelyn's expression remained flat. "We have nothing to discuss. Since you're out, you should live properly and stop doing unconscionable things, or you'll reap what you sow."
Seeing Richard's false pretense made Evelyn feel disgusted.
If not for him, she wouldn't have been caught in a media storm.
Since his release, he hadn't clarified anything for her or made any statement, as if he'd vanished from the world.
And now he suddenly appeared before her talking about feelings—it was laughable.
"I know you hate me." Seeing Evelyn's cold gaze, Richard appeared helpless and aggrieved. "But I'm still your father. Are you really going to abandon me?"
Leona couldn't stand listening anymore and immediately spoke up. "Didn't you always treat Hannah as your biological daughter? Why don't you go find her?"
Hearing Hannah's name, Richard suddenly seemed triggered. The light in his eyes became unfocused, and his words grew incoherent.
"I'm talking to my daughter—what's it to you? Get out of my way!"
Seeing he remained incorrigible, Evelyn had no desire to waste time on him and prepared to leave with the children.
Unexpectedly, Richard suddenly lunged forward, grabbing Evelyn's hand and refusing to let go, shouting loudly, "We're father and daughter connected by blood! These two children are my grandchildren—you can't just sever ties like this!"
As the crowd around them grew, Evelyn ignored him, only wanting to leave quickly. "If you don't let go, I'm calling the police."
