Chapter 26: I Am Sorry
Chapter 26: I Am Sorry
Nathan
I stood in front of the mansion gate, not knowing what to do. Should I go inside? After everything that happened in the car, I don't know how to face her. Especially, knowing that she regretted it made my heart clenched painfully in my chest.
I rang the doorbell and waited anxiously, my hands were shaking a little and I was sweating profusely, knowing that I will meet my son as well. A middle aged woman who looked like a maid came out and asked who I was and who I wanted to meet.
"Sorry, sir. Miss Beckett isn't back yet." I furrowed my brows, she didn't go to the office today. Where is she?
She must still be with that Samuel guy and the thought made my blood boil with rage.
"Who is it, Margate?" A small voice came from behind her.
I looked behind her and there he stood, staring at me sharply. He looked at me and at the maid.
"Let him in, I know him." He said to the woman seriously.
"But, master Ryan…." She was hesitant.
"It is okay, let him in." He said and went inside, not bothering to look at me again.
The maid let me in and led me to the lounge area where Ryan was sitting with his hands folded on his chest as he stared at the ground. I sat down on the couch in front of him nervously, staring at him. Just a little interaction with him and I knew he was not just a simple child. He is cold, sharp and not to mention, extremely smart.
"What are you doing here, Mr. Nathan Kelvin?" He asked, still staring at the ground calmly.
"You know me? Did your mother say anything about me?" I asked with a little hope.
"Yes, I know you but my mother didn't tell me anything about you." He looked at me coldly.
I gulped unconsciously, I am a strong man feared by countless people in Dubai. I have never been intimidated by anyone before, not even my own grandpa or even Vincent Beckett. I don't know why but I actually get intimidated by this child and his mother because of their cold gaze.
"How do you know me then?" I asked, clearing my throat cautiously.
"Who doesn't know you?" He raised an eyebrow, asking an obvious question.
So I am not getting the correct answer that I needed. I guess we will try some other ways.
"What is your age?" I asked with a smile, trying to break the ice. I noticed he was a very observant child, he was observing my every expression before speaking.
I just got a long cold glance in return and a bead of sweat formed on my forehead, my hands clenched together. Why is it so hard to talk to this boy? Why can't I bet through him?
"I will turn eight years old this year." He responded, looking deep into my eyes.
My heart skipped a beat, I calculated the time he was born and then the time he was conceived. He turned eight which means she was pregnant when she left.
"Y.. you are mine." I whispered in a daze as the tears of regret left my eyes for losing my son, his first words, his first steps and all first.
"You are my son, Ryan. I am your father." I said emotionally, wanting nothing more than to go and engulf him in my arms but I controlled myself because he didn't seem surprised.
"You just realized it now?" He scoffed and continued.
"Why are you crying now when you abandoned us?" His tone was accusing.
"N..no, son. I didn't know you." I muttered.
"You abandoned my mother before I was born which means you didn't want me as well. Why are you here then?" He was angry and I shook my head immediately.
I was about to say something when he looked past me, his eyes became gentle and just baby-like and a beautiful smile appeared in his face as he got down from the couch and ran towards the door.
"Mother, you are back. I missed you so much." He went to his mother and hugged her before opening his arms out, indicating to pick him up.
"I miss you more, my prince." Yvonne said in a very loving motherly voice and picked him up in her arms, hugging him tightly as he wrapped his arms around her neck.
She was about to say something to him when her eyes landed on me and she froze. I quickly wiped my tears so that she wouldn't see it then Samuel entered the house behind her.
"Hey, Ryan!" He ruffled my son's hair and hugged him, taking Yvonne in his arms as well while Ryan smiled at him.
My heart clenched painfully in my chest, they looked like a happy family. It is me that should be there, not that idiot. They are both mine only and I won't lose them ever again. Samuel's eyes met mine and he also froze, I stood up and went to Yvonne.
"Can I talk to you about Ryan?" I asked calmly, although my inside was burning from jealousy and rage.
"You…" Samuel was about to hold me by my collar when Yvonne stopped him and stared at me coldly and nodded.
"But Yvonne…" Samuel intervened again.
"I will handle this, just take Ryan to my room for a while." She looked at him but he didn't move, looking back and forth with a clenched jaw.
"Let's go uncle." Ryan said as he opened his arms for him to take him for his mother's arms. He sighed and took the boy in his arms.
"Call me if you need me." He said, she nodded in assurance and smiled at him. I clenched my jaw, looking at them.
"What do you want to talk about, Mr. Kelvin?" She asked, sitting at the couch and looking at me coldly without any emotions in her eyes. I am not used to her this cold gaze and it hurts so badly.
"He is my son," I muttered, it was a statement.
"He is only mine." She retorted icily.
Her coldness angered me, although I know I deserved it because of the things I did to her but still, Ryan is our son and she shouldn't have hidden this fact from me no matter what.
"Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant back then?" I was angry at her, at myself and everything.
"How dare you ask such a question to me when you were the one who didn't want anything to do with me?" She replied, looking straight into my eyes with rage.
She was right, I said all that to her.
"I am sorry," I said remorseful and stood up.
I went to her side and crouched down in front of her, leveling our faces. She looked back at me with emotionless eyes as if I didn't matter at all.
I wanted her to show me any emotion, hate, anger, disgust, whatever but not this. It made me feel like there is no us anymore and that there will never be a second chance.
