Chapter 780: Still in Shock

Chapter 780: Still in Shock

Seeing the doubt on Vincent's face, Kimberly felt a deep sense of unease, like she was guarding against some unknown danger.

"Isn't your grandma a bit too worried about your kid?" Vincent's eyes showed a deep suspicion, like he was pondering something serious.

Kimberly's heart skipped a beat, her breathing became erratic, and her nerves were stretched to the limit. Her fingers clenched involuntarily, and a wave of unease tightened in her chest.

Just then, a knock on the door saved her, but the voice from outside made her heart leap into her throat. She had already experienced too many ups and downs in such a short time.

"Vincent, you in there? The servants said they saw you come in. Your friends are all here, waiting for you."

Kimberly's heart pounded, and her throat tightened. She touched her chest, feeling as if her heart was about to jump out.

Vincent, on the other hand, remained calm, showing no fear but also not speaking. He gestured to Kimberly, seemingly indicating for her to speak.

After a moment of hesitation, Kimberly understood and quickly spoke up, "This is the nursery. I'm feeding the baby."

There was a brief silence outside, as if Laura was surprised to find Kimberly inside. Then her voice came again, "Are you in there alone?"

Kimberly's mind went on high alert, but Vincent signaled her to stay calm. Despite her panic, Kimberly forced herself to remain composed. "Who else would be in the nursery? Does anyone else in the Watson family have a baby? And my son is about to fall asleep. Don't wake him."

Laura already disliked Kimberly, especially since Amelia insisted on having her as a tutor and always brought Caleb along. To Laura, Kimberly's actions seemed like a deliberate provocation, knowing she couldn't have children.

"Having a baby doesn't make you special," Laura said, her footsteps gradually fading away.

Kimberly pressed her ear to the door, listening for a moment before finally breathing a sigh of relief.

"You should go. Didn't you say your friends are here?" Kimberly said, a bit annoyed. The disgust from that night had lingered for days, making her feel nauseous. She had even considered resigning the next day, but the importance of Howard's situation made her reconsider.

Vincent leaned lazily against the door, showing no intention of leaving. "If I go out, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of finding a room to hide in?"

For a moment, Kimberly didn't understand Vincent's meaning. Then it dawned on her—was Vincent deliberately hiding in a less frequented room to avoid those friends?

But she remembered their relationship seemed good that night, and they had gathered at the Watson Mansion multiple times. Why would he avoid them now, especially since they were all here?

Kimberly frowned, uncertainty flashing in her eyes. Finally, she asked, "Are you hiding from those people?"

Vincent raised an eyebrow. "Why should I tell you?"

"Then don't. I'm feeding the baby now. If you don't leave, I'll open the door and tell them you're here," Kimberly threatened.

Vincent frowned but had no choice. "Yeah, I'm hiding from them. So let me have some peace. You feed your baby, and I won't bother you."

Hearing this, Kimberly's heart skipped a beat, and she felt her cheeks flush uncontrollably. She gritted her teeth. "Can you not be so blunt?"

"What's wrong with saying you're feeding the baby? Did I say something wrong?"

Seeing Vincent's unchanged demeanor, Kimberly was furious but restrained herself for Caleb's sake.

At that moment, Caleb started crying again, probably upset from not being able to feed properly. Kimberly gently soothed him, "It's okay, Caleb. Mommy's here."

With no other option, Kimberly sat on the only sofa, holding Caleb. She lifted her shirt slightly and turned to feed him, unable to let Caleb go hungry just to argue with Vincent.

Caleb must have been very hungry, sucking so hard that Kimberly felt like her nipple might be bitten off. She couldn't help but let out a muffled groan but didn't stop Caleb. How could such a small child understand?

Then, an annoying voice spoke again, "Do you have a physiological reaction while feeding?"

Kimberly nearly exploded with anger. Her teeth clenched, and her chest heaved. If she weren't feeding Caleb, she would have slapped Vincent.

Making such a crude joke while she was feeding—was he even human?

She lowered her voice, gritting her teeth. "Vincent, you're even more shameless than before. It seems being with Laura has given you many bad habits, making you utterly repulsive."

Vincent remained unfazed by Kimberly's words. "Not just you, even Grandma says so. I don't care. Laura is my wife now."

For some reason, hearing Vincent speak like this made Kimberly feel a pang of sadness.

But when the image of that diary flashed in her mind, the feeling vanished instantly.

"Yes, and because of your reckless behavior, Mrs. Watson fell ill. You used to care so much about her, but now you don't care about her well-being at all, do you?"

Vincent's expression remained indifferent. "No matter what, this has nothing to do with you."

"Yes, I spoke out of turn. But I was once the Watson family's granddaughter-in-law. Mrs. Watson and I shared a bond. It's not just me who can't stand it. Even a stranger would be appalled," Kimberly said angrily. She felt Vincent had changed too much, becoming unrecognizable. He used to be so principled. How could Laura have corrupted him like this?

Laura must have some skills.

Vincent's cold face showed no emotion. "My affairs are none of your concern."

Seeing that Vincent was unyielding, Kimberly's anger flared. She forced a smile. "Fine, do whatever you want."
