Chapter 781: What Kind of Person Are You
Chapter 781: What Kind of Person Are You
For some reason, seeing Kimberly so concerned about Amelia brought a strange warmth to Vincent's heart. Ever since she had schemed to divorce him, Vincent had seen Kimberly as a deeply manipulative and malicious woman.
But now, he was confused again.
Why was Kimberly's attitude always so ambiguous? It made his emotions swing wildly, leaving him unable to figure out what she was really thinking.
"Kimberly, I really want to know what's going on in your mind, and what kind of person you truly are."
Kimberly was baffled by his words. She looked at Vincent suspiciously, wondering what kind of nonsense he was spouting.
Just then, a commotion of footsteps echoed from outside the door, making Kimberly's heart race. The footsteps grew louder, accompanied by a chorus of voices, and then stopped right outside her door.
At that moment, Kimberly's nerves were stretched to the limit.
Why are they coming here again?
Of all the rooms in the Watson Mansion, why do they always come here?
"Is Mr. Watson in here?" That familiar, nauseating voice rang out.
Then Laura's voice followed, "I've checked all the other rooms, and there's no one there. A servant said they saw Vincent in here earlier."
Kimberly's body went rigid, as if bound by an invisible force, unable to move. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead, as icy fear enveloped her.
Vincent, too, furrowed his brow, seemingly annoyed.
Kimberly was almost certain that Laura was doing this on purpose. She suspected Vincent was in the room and had deliberately brought people over. If they were caught, Laura could play the victim and further solidify her position in the Watson Family.
Thinking of this, Kimberly glared at Vincent with gritted teeth. Nothing good ever happened when he was around. If word got out about this incident, it wouldn't just harm her; it would also hurt Leonard.
She lowered her voice and mocked, "Look at the wonderful guests you invite home and the great wife you married. This is supposed to be Mrs. Watson's territory, yet any outsider can come here and throw their weight around."
Vincent couldn't refute Kimberly's accusation, as it was indeed the truth.
Seemingly fed up with the constant trouble, Kimberly shouted towards the door, "I told you this is the nursery! Why do you keep disturbing us? The baby just fell asleep!"
Perhaps Kimberly's voice was too loud, as Caleb, who was in her arms, stopped nursing and started crying again.
Outside, Austin's voice came with a mischievous tone, "Oh, it's our beautiful tutor. You're nursing in there? Then we should definitely come in and chat with you."
Kimberly's forehead veins throbbed, her face dark with anger. She was already fuming over what had happened that night, and hearing Austin's voice only made her angrier.
She yelled, "If you keep harassing me, I'll call the police! I'll call them right now!"
Suddenly, there was silence outside the door, followed by Laura's voice, "Kimberly, why are you so angry? We're just looking for Vincent. What's the harm in checking inside?"
"I told you this is the nursery. I'm taking care of the baby. How could anyone else be in here? Didn't I just tell you that?" Kimberly's anger flared even more.
Vincent, watching her lie so convincingly, couldn't help but let a faint smile tug at his lips.
Seeing Vincent's expression, Kimberly shot him a fierce glare.
But Laura wasn't so easily deterred. She continued to pester, "I've searched all the rooms in the Watson Mansion, and there's no one. Vincent's car is outside, so he must be here. This is the only room I haven't checked, and a servant saw Vincent come in."
At this moment, Kimberly's lips felt dry, her tongue glued to the roof of her mouth, unable to speak.
Caleb kept crying, and as she gently patted him to soothe him, she reluctantly continued, "Then go find Mrs. Watson! Let her see you causing trouble!"
Mentioning Amelia made Laura pause.
Just when Kimberly thought Laura would back off, Laura said, "It's just opening a door. Mrs. Watson might scold me, but it won't be a big deal."
Then another voice came, Laura instructing a servant, "Go get the spare key for this room. I want to go in."
Kimberly's heart raced, her breathing quickened, like an athlete running on an endless track.
Vincent was clearly angry at Laura's behavior. He whispered to Kimberly, "Call Lexine, quickly."
Right!
Kimberly frantically pulled out her phone and dialed Lexine's number.
The phone rang for what felt like an eternity with no answer. Kimberly's face turned pale, as if all the blood had drained from it, leaving only boundless anxiety.
Just when Kimberly was about to lose all hope, the call was finally answered.
A moment later, Lexine's scolding voice came from outside the door, "What are you doing?"
Laura hesitated, then replied irritably, "Vincent seems to be in there. I want to open the door and check. Is that a problem?"
"This is the nursery. Ms. Sanchez is inside taking care of the baby. You can't just barge in. Do you have any respect for Mrs. Watson?" Lexine's voice was stern and angry.
But Laura didn't care. She replied nonchalantly, "I'm looking for my husband and can't find him. Someone saw him go in there, so why can't I check?"
"I told you, only Ms. Sanchez is in there, and she's nursing. Mr. Watson isn't inside. If you want to find him, call him!" Lexine's voice was sharp and filled with anger.
But Laura was unfazed. She smirked and said, "You don't need to tell me that. I'm a woman too. If she's nursing, I can go in and check myself. What's the big deal?"
Lexine's face darkened with anger. "This isn't your place. It's Mrs. Watson's. You have no right to barge in. Go do what you need to do elsewhere."
Kimberly noticed Vincent had put his phone on silent, but she still couldn't help but give him a dirty look. If he hadn't barged in, none of this would be happening.
"What do you mean by that? I'm Vincent's wife now. How can you say it has nothing to do with me? I'm Mrs. Watson. I can go into any room in the Watson Mansion!" Laura retorted defiantly.
From the moment she married into the Watson Family, she never respected Lexine. She couldn't understand why Lexine, just a servant, held such a high status in the Watson Mansion, while she was looked down upon by everyone.
Was it just because she came from a rough background?
