Chapter 779 Sudden Doubts
Chapter 779 Sudden Doubts
Kimberly thought Vincent was about to stir up trouble again, so her delicate features showed a hint of anger as she raised her voice, "Vincent, if you want some peace and quiet, go to another room. Your house has plenty of rooms, doesn't it? Why do you have to be here? And can't you see I'm breastfeeding? How am I supposed to explain if someone else sees?"
Just then, Lexine's voice came from outside the door, "Ms. Sanchez, I brought some fruit for you. You can have some after feeding Caleb before you go teach Howard. Mrs. Watson said there's no rush."
Lexine was about to come in, which made Kimberly panic. "Lexine, I... I don't need it right now. Caleb just fell asleep, and I need to soothe him a bit. You can go ahead with your tasks."
At this moment, Vincent stood up and walked straight to the door. Kimberly's eyes widened, her heart pounding in her chest. Just when she thought Vincent was going to open the door and cause trouble, he instead locked it.
Lexine heard the sound from outside and asked, "Ms. Sanchez, is everything okay?"
Kimberly quickly replied, "I'm fine, Lexine. I just felt it was inconvenient while breastfeeding and had to take off more clothes. I didn't want anyone to see. You can go ahead with your tasks."
Lexine didn't suspect anything from this explanation and said, "I'll leave the fruit at the door, Ms. Sanchez. You can take it in later."
"Thanks, Lexine."
Hearing Lexine's footsteps fade away, Kimberly finally breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at Vincent, feeling a bit awkward. She felt utterly embarrassed.
Vincent, however, seemed unfazed and said, "You didn't even lock the door while breastfeeding. Even if I hadn't come in, someone else could have. And you blame others?"
Kimberly knew it was her oversight. She had been so focused on soothing Caleb that she forgot to lock the door.
She couldn't argue with that, so she said, "You're right. Now, can you leave? I need to put Caleb to sleep, and then I have to tutor Howard on the piano."
Vincent shook his head, showing no intention of leaving. "How do you expect me to explain if I leave now? Lexine's room is right next door. Besides, I said I needed some peace and quiet."
Kimberly still didn't understand what Vincent meant by "peace and quiet." She was getting frustrated. "Can't you find peace and quiet in another room? Why here?"
"Are you afraid I'll see you breastfeeding? There's nothing on your body I haven't seen before. What's there to be afraid of?"
Kimberly was almost choked by Vincent's shameless comment. She felt both embarrassed and slightly angry. "You never change your rogue nature, do you? And you're a married man now. Do you think this is appropriate?"
For some reason, Vincent didn't like it when Kimberly mentioned Laura. It didn't bother him when others did, but when Kimberly brought her up, it inexplicably made him angry.
He stepped closer to Kimberly, his expression shifting slightly, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk on his lips.
"I was able to marry Laura thanks to your behind-the-scenes efforts. So why are you pretending to be innocent now?"
Kimberly was left speechless. To the outside world, she was the one who "matched" Vincent and Laura, and she was the one who initiated the divorce.
Since she couldn't explain this, she had no choice but to play the bad guy.
A complex emotion flashed in Kimberly's eyes, followed by a hint of sadness. She forced a smile, "In that case, you definitely shouldn't stay here. I'm a married woman too. Even if you don't mind, I do."
Vincent's gaze fell on Caleb in Kimberly's arms. This was the first time he had looked at the child up close. Despite being a baby, Caleb's delicate features were evident, and he looked a lot like Kimberly, inheriting all her best traits.
It was hard to imagine how handsome Caleb would be in the future.
Vincent's eyes lingered on Caleb, a strange feeling stirring inside him, like an unnamed jealousy burning.
Seeing Vincent staring at Caleb, Kimberly instinctively turned her body to shield her son, thinking Vincent might harm him.
Vincent's reaction brought him back to reality. He smirked, "What? Do you think I'd hurt this child?"
"Who knows? Just in case."
"I'm not as malicious as you think. No matter how much I want to deal with you, I wouldn't harm a child."
Kimberly didn't believe him. The shadow of that diary was something she could never forget. If a man could choose to give her child away, what else was he capable of?
So when it came to Caleb, Kimberly would never trust him.
"Of course, it's best if you don't. You and Laura can have a child too. That would fulfill Mrs. Watson's wish."
Everyone knew Laura couldn't have children, and Kimberly was well aware of it. But she had to play dumb in front of Vincent. After all, they were married now, and who could accept that their wife couldn't have children?
Sure enough, Vincent's expression changed slightly, his eyes cold, his tone flat, "Whether we have children or not is none of your concern. What I find strange is why Grandma is so interested in your child, insisting you bring him every time you come to tutor."
Kimberly's heart skipped a beat, pounding rapidly as if it would leap out of her chest.
She knew Vincent would eventually get suspicious. Amelia's insistence on her bringing Caleb was bound to raise questions, especially since Caleb was supposedly her child with another man. Anyone would be suspicious.
That Vincent had waited this long to ask surprised Kimberly. She had been on edge every time she brought Caleb, fearing she would slip up or Vincent would find out something.
So she forced herself to stay calm, "That's why I said you and Laura should have a child soon. I didn't have one with you, and now you and Laura are married but still don't have a child. Mrs. Watson's desire for a great-grandchild is too strong, so she wants to see my child."
This explanation was both sufficient and insufficient. Vincent kept staring at her, his expression unreadable, making it impossible for Kimberly to tell what he was thinking.
