Chapter 809 Refusal

Chapter 809 Refusal

"Christina's apartment was broken into a while ago, so she's currently staying at Mrs. Wallace's place."

Mrs. Wallace was Christina's aunt, Gaia. No wonder she was jogging near that neighborhood.

Paul's brow slowly furrowed. "Alright, I understand."

"Paul, do you like Christina?" Ashley initially thought Paul wanted her to get closer to Gaia to strengthen their relationship, but later she found out Gaia was Christina's aunt, and she started to have suspicions.

Paul didn't hide anything and admitted straightforwardly, "Yeah, even though she's a bit silly and always misunderstands me, she's straightforward and has no hidden agendas."

Ashley was silent for a moment. "I see." Ashley was a bit helpless.

She didn't have a good impression of Christina, but since Paul liked her, she could only support him.

Paul had suffered so much with her, surrounded by schemes. Maybe if Paul found a simple-minded wife, his future life would be easier.

At the Thomas Group, Joseph called Preston into his office."How's the recruitment of technical talent going?" Joseph asked in a deep voice.

"I've arranged a dinner with someone tonight to discuss it," Preston said confidently, "I'll offer better terms than the market rate."

Joseph nodded slightly, his gaze suddenly becoming sharper. "I heard you've been getting close to a girl from the Mitchell Family?"

Preston's heart tightened, and he explained, "I met her by chance during that chain car accident. I was on that road too and got a minor arm injury. She was the one who stitched me up."

Preston continued, "Later, her apartment was broken into. I happened to be visiting a friend and saw a thug chasing her when I was coming downstairs, so I helped her out."

Joseph listened to Preston's explanation, his thoughts racing. In his view, either of his sons could marry into the Mitchell Family.

He preferred Paul to meet Christina because Paul had a legitimate status. 'If I take Preston to meet the Mitchell Family, what would they think of Preston's illegitimate status?'

Now it seemed that if Preston won Christina's heart privately, the Mitchell Family wouldn't refuse the marriage because of Preston's status.

Joseph said approvingly, "Treat Miss Mitchell well. Miss Mitchell is busy with work, so you need to care for her more."

"I understand," Preston nodded, feeling relieved. He had gained Joseph's support.

"Miss Mitchell, someone is here to see you." Christina was about to go to dinner with Elowen when she heard a nurse calling her.

"I'll go check. It might be a patient," Christina said to Elowen and hurried out.

In the hallway outside, a tall figure stood there."Mr. Thomas," Christina called out in surprise.

Preston turned around with a gentle smile, looking as warm as a spring breeze. "Is Miss Mitchell off work?"

"Yes, I was about to go to dinner," Christina replied.

"Then I came at the right time," Preston said.

Christina looked at him in confusion.

Preston took out two vouchers. "My friend's restaurant is open today, and he invited me to support him. I got two free vouchers. Would Miss Mitchell like to join me for a free meal?"

Christina remembered Paul's words and his relationship with Paul. If she were to marry Paul, she would be on Paul's side.

Christina refused, "Sorry, I have a surgery later, so I can't go out for dinner."

Preston looked disappointed, then quickly hid his expression, letting Christina see it. "No problem. These vouchers are valid for a week. Miss Mitchell, you can take your colleagues or friends to eat."

He handed the vouchers to Christina.

Christina wanted to refuse, but Preston quickly turned and left. "Next time Miss Mitchell is free, I'll take you to try other delicacies."

Seeing his disappointed look, Christina almost felt sorry for him. So far, Preston hadn't done anything to harm her. And Preston's expression made her feel like she had abandoned him.

Christina shook her head speechlessly.

"What's up?" Elowen came out and patted Christina's shoulder.

Christina handed her the vouchers. "A patient gave these to me. I couldn't refuse. You and Mr. Hernandez can go. It's a newly opened restaurant, and you can eat for free."

Preston sat in his car, frowning tightly as he thought about Christina's rejection. After the banquet, he clearly felt Christina distancing herself from him. 'Did Paul say something to her that day?'

During Paul's three-day business trip, he didn't send Christina a single message. On the first day, Christina occasionally checked her phone, but later she got too busy with work to look.

On the third day, Christina suddenly remembered that Paul was supposed to return from his trip today. 'Would I come to her tonight for an answer?'

Christina's chaotic mind suddenly calmed down. She had already made up her mind; it was just hard to accept at first. After all, who doesn't want to fall in love before getting married? Changing the order would change many things.

A medical discussion started at 2 p.m. and continued until 7 p.m. with no end in sight.

Elowen leaned over and whispered, "Do you have something to do? I see you keep checking the time."

"No," Christina turned off her phone screen.

Paul hadn't sent her a message. Maybe he was coming back tomorrow.

"Let's wait a bit longer. It should end soon."

"Okay."

The discussion finally ended at 9 p.m.

Christina packed her things and had a brief discussion with Knox and Elowen. It was 10 p.m. when she left the hospital.

"Miss Mitchell, are you going home alone?"

Christina replied, "Yes, I'm driving."

"Drive safely."

"Okay." Christina said goodbye to her colleagues and got into her car. She took out her phone and opened her chat with Paul. She typed a message but hesitated and didn't send it.

Forget it, I'll ask tomorrow.

Christina drove home.

As she left the city, the road became less crowded, and the streetlights gradually disappeared.

Christina turned on her high beams.

As she neared the villa, a person suddenly appeared in front of her.

Christina was startled and quickly turned off the high beams and eased off the gas to slow down.

As she got closer, she steered to avoid the pedestrian. But as she got nearer, the person suddenly ran into her lane.

Christina slammed on the brakes. Sitting in the driver's seat, she broke into a cold sweat. There was no movement ahead, and she didn't see the person stand up. She felt nervous.

'Did I hit someone? But I didn't feel any impact.' She thought.

Christina quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out to check. As soon as she opened the car door, a hand grabbed her and yanked her out forcefully.
