Chapter 808 Like

Nicholas listened quietly to Paul's complaints. After Paul finished, Nicholas asked, "Have you contacted all those technical experts?"

Paul glanced outside. "Yes."

"I'll recommend someone else to you. This person has some connections with the Mitchell Family. With his support, things will go more smoothly."

The Mitchell Family... Paul thought of Christina.

Tomorrow was the last day. He wondered what Christina would choose.

"Who is it?" Paul asked.

Nicholas mentioned a name. After the bet was made public, everyone looked at Paul differently. It wasn't admiration; many people were watching him like a spectacle. Paul pretended not to notice these looks.

In the afternoon, he went to the archives room but was stopped at the door. "As the deputy manager, I don't have the right to enter?"

The person hesitated, not wanting to let him in, but Paul, as the deputy manager, indeed had the right to enter.

Paul smiled, but his gaze was cold. "Or is it that someone doesn't want me to go in?" Paul's powerful aura made the person flinch.

Although there was no explicit order from above to prevent Paul from entering the archives room, from Paul's first day at the company, they had received implicit orders to give him trouble and to prevent him from accessing the company's core information as much as possible.

The archives room contained a lot of customer information and some research data.

"Move!" Paul's face turned cold, scaring the person into stepping aside quickly.

Paul tried his fingerprint, but the door didn't open. They hadn't even given him any permissions.

'Are they certain I wouldn't last in the company?' he thought.

Paul glanced at the person indifferently. "Open the door."

The person said awkwardly, "I can't."

Paul said, "Do I need to find Joseph? Don't forget how I went from a salesperson to deputy manager in one day."

The person said, "I'll open it for you right now."

'Even if this playboy Paul looks at the information, what could he do? Could he even understand it?' With this thought, the employee opened the door much more swiftly.

Paul swaggered in. Inside, rows of bookshelves were neatly arranged with various documents. The employee followed him in.

Paul ignored him and walked to the customer information section, flipping through some files. Then he walked to the technical information section.

As he was about to take a folder, the employee called out, trying to stop him.

Paul asked, "I can't look?"

Paul ignored him and directly took out the folder to flip through it.

The employee watched him seriously reading and doubted whether Paul could understand it, as it was all technical drawings.

Paul stayed inside for an hour, and the employee stayed for an hour too, as if afraid Paul would do something.

When Paul came out, he glanced at the employee with a half-smile.

Paul said, "Was it Joseph who told you to guard against me entering the archives room? He really thinks I'd set the place on fire."

The employee asked, "What? You want to set the archives room on fire?"

Paul replied, "Not Joseph? Then it must be Preston?"

The employee stood there, dumbfounded.

The next day, Christina was organizing her notes in the office when her phone on the desk vibrated. She picked it up and saw a message from Paul.

Paul: [I'm going on a business trip for three days. Tell me your answer when I get back.]

Yesterday, Paul was eagerly pressing her for an answer. Now he wasn't in a hurry.

Christina replied with an OK emoji. She hadn't made up her mind yet. She really didn't like blind dates but couldn't refuse her parents' arrangements. Although her family business was quite large, her parents still held traditional views.

She had never been in a relationship, and she had few male friends. Her parents were almost suspecting she didn't like men. Plus, she had been studying medicine for many years, and as she graduated, she was getting older. Her parents feared that once she got busy with work, she would have even less time for relationships, so they wanted to introduce her to someone.

Actually, every time she went on a blind date, as long as she said she didn't like the person, her parents wouldn't force her to interact with him. They would just persuade her a bit, mentioning the person's good qualities. If she disagreed, they would drop it.

So far, Paul was her fourth blind date. The previous three weren't as good-looking as Paul.

Christina stared at her notes but couldn't focus on a single word. Her mind was in turmoil. With her personality, she would have outright refused when Paul mentioned a marriage of convenience.

But she found herself a bit moved. She didn't know why she suddenly became so conflicted. This wasn't like her.

Elowen walked in and saw her frowning. "What's wrong? Do you encounter a problem?"

Christina snapped back to reality. "No."

Elowen asked, "Then why do you look so worried?"

Christina said, "I was thinking about a personal matter, and I can't make a decision."

"What's a personal matter? Can you talk about it?" Elowen pulled up a chair and sat next to Christina.

Christina lowered her eyes and thought for a moment. "A friend of mine..."

Elowen rested her chin on her hands, listening quietly.

Christina said, "I mean, a friend of mine, not me."

Elowen replied, "I know."

Christina continued, "My friend and her blind date initially had some misunderstandings. Later, the misunderstandings were cleared up, and they coincidentally ended up on another blind date together."

Christina added, "It was an unintentional, unexpected blind date. They didn't know it was each other beforehand."

Elowen said, "Okay, I understand. Go on."

Christina continued, "Then this blind date suggested marriage to my friend... That's basically the situation. My friend is now very conflicted about whether to agree to it because marriage isn't a game."

Elowen thought for a moment and asked, "Does she like him?"

"It's not me; it's my friend." Christina corrected seriously.

Elowen cooperatively asked, "Does your friend like him?"

"I don't know."

"What does your friend think of him?"

"At first, he seemed unreliable and was mistaken for a playboy. Later, when the misunderstanding was cleared up, she found him quite loyal and righteous. He can drink a lot and is very good-looking."

"I think your friend probably likes him, or at least has a good impression of him," Elowen said accurately.

Christina was stunned. "How can you tell?"

"When you talk about him, you smile, and there's a familiar emotion in your eyes. It's the same look I had when I talked about my husband when we first met."

"It's not me; it's my friend." Christina's voice weakened.

Elowen smiled kindly. "If you think you'll regret not agreeing to marry him, you might consider a marriage of convenience first."

Elowen added, "Of course, the premise is that you can leave anytime."

Christina nodded slightly. "I'll think about it."

As soon as Paul landed, he received a call from Ashley.

Ashley said, "Paul, didn't you tell me to interact more with Mrs. Wallace? I found out something while attending a flower arranging event with her this afternoon."

Paul asked, "What is it?"
