CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE
{Axle}
Hans was whining inside my head, he wanted to be around Lexi, and I did too, but Mina was right. I was the Alpha, and I needed to show more restraint. Hans tried telling me something, but I just cut him off and decided to focus, for Lexi, I would deal with my possessiveness because the last thing I wanted was for her to feel trapped.
I took my mind off Lexi and concentrated on the game. The tables began to turn as I started concentrating on the game, and soon Lex and his partner, who was a stranger we met at the beach, lost.
"Who's the sucker now?" Mina asked and stuck her tongue out at Lex.
"Burn," I yelled and held my chest dramatically.
Mina and I laughed our butts off, and we high-fived each other.
We were an amazing team.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Lex shrugged, he was such a sore loser. "I'll go get us some drinks."
The loser gets the drinks.
Alex and I had gotten close after Lexi and I began dating, we had a long talk and most of the conversation was about threats of various kinds.
He was very protective of Lexi, and he warned me against breaking her heart, but what he didn't understand was that I couldn't hurt her, not even if I wanted to, she was my mate, meaning whatever I did to her would affect me either way, and I loved her too much to even try to look at other girls.
She was like an addiction, she was in my blood, and there was no getting rid of her.
Mina and I walked back to our tumbonas, and we spread atop them.
I was really starting to miss Lexi. Just as I reached over to pick up my phone to call her, I felt a very sharp pain in my chest, and that could only mean one thing.
Lexi was in trouble.
"What's wrong?" Mina asked when I stood up hurriedly.
"It's Lexi, there's something wrong with Lexi." I dialed her number on my phone.
Panic and fear gripped my heart as I was sent to voicemail.
Something was definitely wrong with her.
"Lex!" I yelled and ran towards him. I needed to find out where Lexi had gone, and I needed to find her.
"I need you to contact Lexi, something is wrong, I can feel it." I rushed out, I had never felt this scared before.
"What's wrong?" he asked in a confused state. "She just headed over to Isla's house, why are you being paranoid?"
"Lex, you can't understand, and even if you could, we don't have much time to spend talking. Lead me to her friend's house, we have to go now." I was already hysterically about to tear his arm from his body.
"Chill, man, my sister is fine. Why is he like this?" he asked Mina.
"You might not understand it, but Axle is right, I think Lexi's in trouble," Mina said.
It was like her words were the boost he needed because he brought his phone out and dialed Lexi's number immediately, he tried it like five times before worry lines began to show on his face.
"She never lets her call go to voicemail." He said, and I stared at him incredulously.
"No shit, Einstein." I sneered at him.
We raced back to the rental car, and I drove fast to her friend's house. We were lucky not to have been pulled over by the cops.
All the way, my heart kept beating fast, and the pain in my chest worsened. Something terrible was happening to my mate. I would not have been able to feel it if Reyah had not cast a spell on me to help me watch over Lexi.
I had noticed that my possessiveness and always hanging around had started getting to Lexi, but I could not help but worry about her. If anything bad were to happen to her, I would die. There are not many cases of wolves surviving after losing their mates.
It's said to be the most painful thing ever.
No wonder my mother went back to the war and died after my father was murdered.
I pulled up in front of the house Lex told me to and slammed on the brakes, we rushed out of the car and ran up to the door immediately.
Three knocks and an I'm coming later, I nearly peed my pants as the voice from the other side of the door was taking forever to open up.
"Oh, hey Lex." The door opened to reveal a strange-looking human being.
She had red hair, and she was dressed scantily, somehow I couldn't see her and Lexi being best friends.
This was not the picture I had in my head when Lexi talked about Isla, then I had a rethink. She might not be Isla after all, maybe she was her sister or something.
"Hey, Isla." Lex greeted her back and effectively debunked my theory, this was definitely Isla.
"Is Lexi with you?" I asked hurriedly, there was no time for pleasantries.
"Who are you?" Her eyes turned to me, and she asked coldly.
"Is Lexi here?" Lex asked, drawing her attention back to him. I was about to give her a piece of my mind before he talked.
"No, that btch never came here." She said, and my heart sank, I also managed to see red as well.
Who was she calling a btch?
"Who're you calling a btch, whre? Lexi left to come see you. Where the fck is she?" I demanded angrily.
"Who the fck are you?" She shot back angrily. "What the fck is your problem?"
"Guy, please, you have to calm down, don't forget why we're here." Mina intervened, and coolheadedness prevailed.
"Isla, Lexi left about four hours ago to come find you, and we haven't seen her since," Lex explained, and the look of confusion and anger washed away from her face and was immediately replaced by fear and panic.
I could not deny she really cared about Lexi, or she was a really good actor.
I'm going to go with the latter; damn, the bitch is sketchy.
Suddenly, I picked up a scent in the air.
"Rogue, wolf." Hans sneered, and I mind linked Mina, who turned to me and nodded.
