Chapter 77 077
Damien’s POV
I was restless as I kept moving around because I just wanted to see what the doctor was doing. I wanted to know how she was also doing with the baby. I was too rough with her. I should apologize to her when this is over. Though I’m not used to apologizing to people, it’s not something I haven’t done for her. As long as she doesn’t get mad anymore… I don’t want to see her getting hurt.
The doctor finally came out after checking on her. I rushed to him to get answers. He looked very worried, which made me feel like something wrong had happened.
“How is she doing, doctor? Tell me right now,” I demanded.
“Alpha, I’m afraid she has to be taken to the hospital for more tests. Even though the baby has been stabilized now, it was very dangerous for her earlier, and she could have just died with the baby,” he replied.
I felt the world spinning the moment I heard those words. Would I be able to witness her dying in front of me? I don’t think I’m ever ready for that. I really didn’t know she would be this upset over that bastard. Does she really care about him so much that she’s willing to risk her life for him?
“What do we do now? Is the baby okay now? What about her? Can I see her?” I asked him.
“I think she’s awake now, but she only wants to be with her friend, and she told me not to let you in,” the doctor replied again.
What does she mean by that? I’ve been worried about her here, and she doesn’t want to see me?
He shook his head. “I’m sorry to say this, Alpha, even if it’s out of place, but don’t you think you should be a little patient with her? If you keep stimulating her like this, you’re only going to put her in more danger.”
“Am I really doing too much?” I asked him again.
He looked down. “I can’t say, but at this point, you just need to be careful, or this won’t be so simple later. I couldn’t determine what kind of wolf she is, which is very strange but I guess you must know.”
This was another topic I couldn’t talk about with the doctor. I’ve tried so hard to hide my identity from the entire world just to be safe, according to my history. And now that there’s another one like me, it’s already bad enough that we are being hunted by those people. I can’t let the doctor know much about her. Even though he’s someone I trust, I still can’t take chances.
“You don’t have to worry about her wolf. She’s very strong, and you only need to do your job,” I told him.
“Then you should try bringing her to the hospital tomorrow. I’ll run some more tests on her. I’m going to take my leave now, Alpha.”
I signaled Lucas to come over, which he did. “See the doctor out and come back to me.”
He nodded. “Yes, Alpha. Please come with me, Doctor.”
I stayed in front of the room and tried to listen to the conversation between Amelia and her friend. However, I had to stop myself because I didn’t want to pry into their privacy. Even though I wanted to know more about this bastard she cares about, I still couldn’t do much. I didn’t want to get her mad anymore so she wouldn’t risk her life or the baby’s.
Lucas came back not too long after. “Alpha, I already saw the doctor out. What do you need me to do for you?”
“I need you to get supplements and gifts for her,” I said, but I didn’t know how to describe the gifts since I’m not used to giving people that.
“What kind of gifts do you want me to give her, Alpha?” Lucas questioned.
I shook my head. “I don’t know. What kind of gifts do you think I can use to apologize to her?”
His eyes widened in shock. “You’re already doing so much for her, Alpha, by changing your ways and now, you want to apologize? I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing.”
I frowned, clearly offended by the fact that he saw me as an unreasonable person who couldn’t apologize when I did something wrong. “You mean I’ve never been wrong before? But now I think I really am, and I just want to make it up to her so she won’t be upset anymore.”
“Are you going to tell me or not?” I fired at him.
He nodded. “Yes, Alpha. The thing is, I don’t know the kind of gifts she might like, and she doesn’t look like someone that lacks money or any of those things. But you might never know. She’s going to appreciate the gift more if you give her something she wants, or something she’s thought about for a long time, sincerely from your heart, along with the apology.”
I sighed. I didn’t know apologizing had to be that elaborate. “I remember you have a girlfriend. Is this how you apologize to her?”
He smiled shyly. “I don’t know if it’s necessary to say this, Alpha, but yes, I do apologize to her a lot and you can never beat a woman in an argument.”
I didn’t know the logic he used to tell me that, but I realized he was right. I haven’t been able to beat her in an argument, and I keep getting angry every time she defies me. I guess it’s their nature to be like that and I never knew that.
“You know what? I’m going to think of what to get her. I’ll find a way to apologize to her sincerely. I need you to do something else for me,” I told him.
“I’m at your service, Alpha.”
“I need you to get me the list of people who you think might be involved in the attack that happened to her before. I know the investigation is still ongoing, but I need you to look into someone for me. This person might be our lead.”
I gestured for him to come closer, and I whispered the person’s name into his ear. Even though I wanted to say it out loud, I wasn’t sure if someone was listening. After all, there are a lot of spies in my mansion who can’t take any action despite what they were told to do. I’m not stupid enough to think my enemies aren’t always after me, but it’s fun seeing them fool themselves into thinking they could ever get anything on me. I’ve never had a weakness before, and I don’t think I ever will.
He bowed. “Don’t worry, Alpha. I’m going to do my best to find out immediately.”
I scoffed. “I’m not worried. You’ll be punished if you can’t do your job properly.”
He scratched his head awkwardly and left. I still stayed in front of the room, unable to leave. As much as I wanted to show my anger and dominance, I just felt like I couldn’t do it anymore. The only thing I kept thinking about was her health.
The door finally opened after a while, and Stacy came out. She glared at me for a moment before speaking up.
“I’m only allowing you to see her because she wanted to talk to you. You really don’t deserve my friend. She deserves to be with someone better and stable, which you are clearly not,” she said boldly.
I clenched my fists, trying to hold in my anger. I couldn’t do anything to her because she’s Amelia’s best friend. Sometimes she seems to forget who I am and talks to me like this. The only grace she has right now is Amelia. I don’t want to hurt anyone Amelia likes as long as it’s not a romantic partner.
“I have nothing to say to you. But you shouldn’t think about giving Amelia to someone else. It will never happen as long as I’m alive,” I told her and walked inside.
When I got into the room, I didn’t like the state I found Amelia in. She looked very weak and tired. In just a few moments that we hadn’t seen each other, she already looked worse. Is this pregnancy draining her life, or what? Why is it so bad?
“You’re here. We need to talk,” she said as I got closer to her. “I think we should just end this nonsense we have between us.”
I stopped walking when I heard that. It might have looked like I didn’t hear what she said, but I heard it clearly. She’s trying to end the relationship with me? Does she think it’s that easy to leave me for someone else?
“Never!” I growled before I could stop myself.
