Chapter 16- Welcome Sunday Funday

I open my eyes, oh gawd my head is pounding. I roll over and Adam is still sleeping. I close my eyes. I open my eyes, oh man what time is it. I grab my phone at 11:56am. I feel like I should wake up, but I can’t. What time did we even get home? I feel Adam stir; we face each other. He doesn't open his eyes but pulls me closer.

“What time is it?” He asks.

“Noon.” Is all I can reply.

“I feel like death.”

“Me too, good night.” I closed my eyes again.

“Molly, babe, wake up.” I sat up startled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, it's 3 in the afternoon, I think we should re-enter the world of the living,” Adam suggests.

“I’m starving,” I say as my stomach is grumbling.

“Me too,” Adam says as he gets out of bed. I throw on whatever clothes I can find and we walk downstairs. I see no one, I go in the fridge. I’m not entirely awake, I find leftover pasta salad, some chicken wing dip, and dessert. Adam sits at the bar stools, I grab 2 glasses of water, chug one and give the other to Adam. We sit here in silence eating. I am trying to remember flip cup, beer pong, oh yeah physics me, oh yeah, we walked downtown. This is when it starts to get blurry. I’m pretty sure we played at the park, I also remember dancing in the street, I honestly don’t remember being with other people. I’m done eating, I look at Adam who looks terrible.

“Whoa look who’s finally awake.” Oh, why so loud.

“Hey Jared, what’s happening?”

“It’s a pool party Sunday you guys coming out, I think there’s some porch crawler left.” I gag a little, shaking my head.

“Please, no, no more for me.” Adam looks disgusted. He shakes his head no.

“The pool sounds good though.” We sit there not moving.

“You guys gaver yesterday, you were plastered when you got home.” I look up at Jared, instantly worried because I don’t remember coming home.

“Were we, hmm and you saw us because you were still awake or...?”

“Yeah Jullian and I were sitting in the garage when Adam walked up the driveway with you over his shoulder.” I look at Adam, he shrugs his shoulders.

“Right and what time would you say that was?”

“I don’t know like 3ish, you guys have no idea how you got home eh?” Jared is laughing.

“Man, I don’t remember most of what happened after we left here.” Adam, a bit embarrassed, looks at me.

“Don’t ask me babe I also am a bit foggy at night.” We both check our phones for any clues. We sit here trying to paste together the night via what pictures we took. I looked through mine. I didn’t take a ton. I asked Adam, “Did you take a lot of pictures?”

“Not really you?”

“Nope. Enough to know it doesn’t look too bad.” The first picture on my phone is of Adam Lace Ry and me, looks like just on the street. Adam has one of Lacey and me on the swings which I do remember doing. Then there are some selfies of Adam and I, but we can’t tell where we are. The next few are random: the street full of people, selfies of Lacey, Anna and me, selfies of Tyler and me. So, we obviously met up with people. Adam has selfies with Lacey, Anna, and Sarah (one of Anna's friends) all innocent.

“So, all I know differently than before is that we did meet up with my friends.”

“Yeah, well I’d count this as a win, we both look good, we don’t have any evidence we did wrong, looks like we had fun soooo.”

“So wanna go swimming?” This is perfect. I don’t need to worry about anything.

Adam and I are changing into bonfire clothes, my phone goes off, it’s a text from Lacey, but I have one from Anna too.

Lacey: Hey, you guys alive today Ry and I have basically slept all day.

I decide to read Anna's before I test Lacey back, Anna: Hey! What up gangster? Did you crack any skulls today? Toronto changed you lol too loved seeing you and meeting the boy I look at Adam, shocked.

“What's wrong?” I hand him my phone, he reads the message, looks up at me. We both stand there saying nothing, trying to think hard about last night. I come up blank. Adam hands me back my phone. I text both girls back. I need answers.

Me: ANNA, I love you, girl, you gotta try and come to t-dot I promise I’m not always cracking skulls . . . BUT about whose skull did I crack last night she’s a little foggy.

Me: Lacey . . . WTF . . . we can’t remember shit, we’re alive, just without a clue as to what happened last night, HELP?!?

“Maybe they can help me, I'm freaking out inside a bit now,” I tell Adam.

“I’m sure she was joking I wouldn’t let you fight, at least sober me wouldn’t.” We finished getting dressed and walked downstairs. Everyone is packing up drinks, blankets, chairs to bring over to the beach. We grab a blanket and some water. I still don’t want a drink. As we walk over to the beach with everyone, I can feel my phone vibrate as we walk down the street cut along the creek over the road and past sandy surf side restaurant. Adam looks confused.

“Are we on private property?”

“Maybe but we’ve been doing it for years and are with my entire family so I’m not worried.” Everyone sets up around a fire pit that already exists. My dad starts a fire; I lay out our blanket, take off my sandal and lay down. I grab my phone nervous to see what will be said.

Lacey: Yeah, we can’t help either. I know we made it downtown for a street party, Ry said we left in a hurry but can’t remember why.

Me: yep, we saw in our pics pretty much the same. Leesh text me said something about cracking skulls?”

As I hit send a message from Anna comes in Anna: I don’t remember everything but you saw some chick dancing next thing I know you were screaming at her I was ready to back you up then Eric olm picked you up and carried you to Adam who carried you away and we all split up after that.

I handed my phone to Adam before replaying. Now I know why I was over Adam’s shoulder. I wonder if he carried me the entire way home. Sober me feels bad for that girl and she’s lucky. I think I don’t know how good a fighter I am, but I wouldn’t want to find out either. Adam hands me my phone.

“Good thing your big brother was there. And see I told you I wouldn’t let you fight.”

“Thanks, I feel bad for that girl. Good thing nothing bad happened good ol Eric there again to pull me away.” I say shaking my head.

“Port brings it your crazy.” I laugh because I don’t know what else to say I copy Anna's msg and send it to Lacey, reply to them both.

Me: I guess we know what happens when I drink too much crazy me comes out oops I put my phone away, now we know what happened. I just want to enjoy the night and go home. Adam and I snuggle next to the fire waiting for the fireworks to start.
