Chapter 15- Fish fry
I open my eyes, lying in bed trying to remember last night, remember if I made a fool of myself, if we fought. I can remember Adam being very jealous, but we didn’t fight. As I lay here, I can hear the coffee machine, people are awake. I grab my phone and check the time. It’s 9am, oh yeah probably close to the entire house being awake. I look at Adam sleeping, I won’t wake him. I quietly leave my room and head downstairs; I am so hungry. My Dad always has the best children’s sugary cereal or leftover pizza cold for breakfast is the cure for any sort of hangover. I say good morning to everyone. Mom comes and sits next to me while I eat.
“How was the concert?” She asks.
“Good, we had fun, Adam got to meet a lot of people from my past,” I tell her, when she looks at me worry is evident on her face as she asks, “How did he feel about that?”
“Fine, why?” I was confused.
“I was just wondering, sometimes it can be awkward when your past meets your present.” She reassures me with words although her face is telling me a different story. So I will try to explain that it's not a big deal.
“Maybe at first, but we talked about it and there is nothing you can do to change the past.” Mom nods her head and pats my arm as she gets up and walks away.
I finish eating and decide to go shower before Adam wakes up. When I get out of the shower, I head to my room to change. I quietly open the door, sneak inside, quietly unzip our bag to find my outfit for today. I find my blue gym shorts and yellow racer back top. I pull out some clothes for Adam, lay them on the bed for him. I decide to put my bathing suit on underneath as I get dressed, I smile to myself remembering our short but sweet swim last night. Dressed I brush my hair, throw it up in a messy bun on top of my head and then put a red headband in to hold my fly always back. Just as I go to open the door to the bedroom, I hear Adam stir. I stop to turn around to see if he’s awake.
“You make lazy look sexy,” I say smiling as I jump into bed with him.
“Good Morning.” We kiss, and I hop off Adam, he pouts as he sits up on his elbow.
“Where are you going?”
“To help out around the house I set out your clothes. come find me when you're ready.” I lean in again, kiss his head and sneak out again.
In the kitchen I help my mom prepare the food for the day, cutting up fruit, vegetables, meats, and cheese. As we finish wrapping all the trays Adam comes downstairs, I get him some toast and a coffee.
“My dad could use some help when you are done.” Adam looks at me a little nervous, I smile big, then help mom carry the trays to the garage fridge, I refill the fridge with beer and water, and decorate the backyard with paper lanterns. The boys set up the fish frying station and tables to put food on, some shade tents, and yard games. I make sure the bathrooms are stocked for the day. It’s getting hot outside; I find Adam who’s sitting by the pool.
“Hey, babe, want to go swimming?" Adam smiles at me. I know exactly what he is thinking. I laugh as I take off my shorts and tank top. I don’t even wait for him; I jump in the pool. Adam jumps in after me. We swim around and talk about the town, about my family, who’ll likely be at the house today. I hope Ryder comes. He always brings this amazing drink he calls porch crawler. Ryder is my brother-in -law's best friend. I decided to get out of the pool. I lay on the lounge chair from last night. Adam gets out of the pool after me, walks over.
“You’re lucky people are around, seeing you lying there makes me want to have a redo of last night,” Adam whispers to me. I say nothing, lay here soaking up the sun as if he never said a thing. We continue to talk about life, now daydreaming about life as we grow old.
“Where do you want to live when we are done with school?” Adam asks. I think about it for a minute “I've thought about it, I guess it depends on what we want to be when we are done with school. You? What do you want to do with your degree?”
“I would like to do something with a sports physio or trainer. My dream job is to work for the Raptors. My reality is working for a football or hockey team but not a major league."
“Don’t rule out your dream yet. Maybe we should look into an internship for summer jobs with sports teams to get you to know people in the business. If you do work for the Raptors, you’ll have to travel. I think I want to open a studio and teach and go into more of a dance trainer for Toronto’s version of Broadway. Maybe be a dancer’s physiotherapist or something.”
“Do you think stage masters will help you?”
“Adam Seriously? Yes, it gives me diversity. I will need to teach all types of dance.” Adam laughs, I stand up, and he looks at me kind of surprised.
“Are you mad?”
“No, I can hear people, I’m going to change and get ready.”
Adam stands up too, we head up to my room. Once the door is closed Adam undoes my top and pulls it off. Kissing my neck down my collar bone to my breast, I throw my head back. It feels so good. Adam moves back up to my lips, while kissing me he moves his hand into my bathing suit bottoms rubbing my clit. I start panting. It feels amazing. He moves his hand farther into my bottoms parting my vagina lips he slips his fingers in me. This feels incredible, just as I am about to orgasm Adam pulls his hand out, pushes me on my bed, pulls my bottoms off, then goes down on me licking and sucking my clit while working his fingers in and out rapidly. I can't think straight as I cum almost immediately, while the most intense orgasm takes over my body. I lay here for a minute relishing in the after feeling. Adam is smirking at me, grabs fresh clothes, changes and asks if I can move. “Just catching my breath,” I pant as I sit up trying to catch my thoughts. Right, I need to get ready for the fish fry. I get up off my bed and find the outfit packed for tonight.
Oh, right, I packed a more nautical style for tonight. I am wearing a navy maxi skirt with white V like stripes on it, a white tank top, racer back obviously because clearly, they’re my favorite! Both the tank and skirt are form fitting.
“I’m gonna go do my hair and makeup, are you staying up here or going to brave the party alone?”
“I think I’ll lay down while you finish getting ready” Adam smirks as he lays down and I walk out of the room, this is easy hair and makeup today. I take my messy bun out, throw some mouse in my hair, scrunch it, and tie a white bandana in with the tie part on the side of my head. I do a very light eyeshadow and mascara. Done suckers I go get Adam from my room and we head down to the party. I go to the fridge and get us both a beer. Then I text Lacey Me: hey babe, come anytime I think Adam needs extra support as my family friends and actual family judge him and ask him a million questions.
Lacey: Leaving soon.
“Well, it's now or never, ready to meet a ton of people who will likely all ask you the same questions?” I ask Adam.
“Now is as good a time as any.” Adam squeezes and hands as we step outside. We walk around my parent’s lawn; I say hello and introduce Adam as we go and as I predicted he typically is asked the same questions, or we are asked the same couple of questions.
“What are you going to school for?”
“Oh, how do you like living in Toronto?”
“Oh, you live together, how's that going?”
“Are you working for the summer?”
“What will you do after school is done?”
“How long have you been dating?”
“How did you meet?”
My favorite, they try to be discreet and ask if Adam knows about Jeremy. Well if he didn’t, he would think something is up now. Finally, that is over with, I just keep giving Adam more beer hopefully making this easier. Lacey and Steve arrive and we decide to play a mini tournament of washer toss girls vs guys. Lace and I lose quickly which means we must go find replacement players, which is easy my sister and her friend say they will play. Lacey and I sit to watch the game, and then Ryder comes over, he is one of Jullian’s friends, and he hands us a glass.
“Here you go, ladies.” A huge smile on my face yum. I’ve been waiting all day for this.
“Yes, I was hoping you’d make this again this year. Thanks Ryder you’re the best." I tell him then cheer glasses.
“So Molly I hear you're dating another guy,” Ryder asks.
“You say that like I am the town floozy.” I roll my eyes.
“Well if the shoe fits.”' Ryder laughs and I push him, “Oh, ha-ha very funny, yes I did meet a guy named Adam. He’s playing . . .'' I look over at the washer toss and they are not there.
“Well he was playing washer toss, I’m not sure where he is but he’s here somewhere.”
“And you trust your family to just let him run loose today?” Ryder eyes me knowing how my family can be.
“Good point thanks for the drink, Lace we should probably go find them.” We get up from the porch step, and head towards the pool, as we get to the deck, I can see both standing and talking to my Dad. That’s a safe spot for them just then my Mom calls my name.
“Can you help me bring out all the food?”
“Sorry, Lacey, I'll be back,” I tell her.
“No worries, you need help?” Lacey asks.
“Nah enjoy the party won’t take long” I go help my mom take out all the trays we made up this morning plus all kinds of food people brought. The table is all set up. I go check with Dad to see how long the first batch will be. Adam is still over there alone now.
“Hey babe I’m helping the guys. Did you know they caught this fish in the lake right there?”
“Sure, did and the tuna was caught in the keys,” I say proudly as I look at my Dad, he and his buddies always go on a fish trip to bring back fresh tuna for this party. I don't know why but it makes it taste better and gives me all the feels.
“Oh yeah, they’ve been telling me stories and even got me an invite for next year.” Adam looks so excited. I look at my Dad again, this time he's staring at me smiling.
“Great, how long until the fish is ready to eat?” I ask Dad.
“Now, here Adam, call everyone to eat.” My Dad hands the fish to Adam and I almost pout. That's my job, and then I'm shocked when I hear Adam hollars, “FISH IS ON COME EAT”
All I can hear is people yelling chug chug chug as I am slamming my porch crawler. Ok focus if I flip this cup we win, now all I can hear is Adam’s voice.
“Nice and easy, baby nice and easy.” Shut up people I am trying to win here. I line it up on the edge of the table, and flip the bottom of the cup with my index finger oh shit it missed, ok fast set it up again and flip.
“YESSSS!” People are screaming, we’re all hugging and high fiving. Someone asks who wants to play again. Not me, I need to sit out.
“Molly, you have to come to see this beer pong table your dad made,” Lacey says as she drags me away from the flip-cup game. What in the world is she talking about? I follow Lacey into the garage, oh god I giggle. This is the most ghetto setup. It’s a small fold-up table with a sheet of plywood on top and some 2x4 boards all tied in place with bungee cords and patio blocks. But it works. Lacey looks at me as if to say let’s play.
“What the hell I’m in.” I shrug my shoulders. We play against my dad and his friend Lawrence. We set up our cups with some porch crawler in them. This has disaster all over it. We shoot the ball back and forth a few times with no one sinking a shot. My Dad tried this bounce shot. I make Lacey take the first drink. We miss, Lawrence misses, finally Lacey sinks one, game on now. My dad sinks it again, I miss, Lawrence sinks it. Lace sinks it. Then my dad oh god I can’t see straight I try the bounce and it's in. I’m so pumped I jump and squeal. Again for Lawrence, they are on fire. We only have one more cup for them to get. We miss our shots.
“Hey Dad, it’s all up to you don’t blow it.” As I am talking, he sinks it.
“Seriously, do you practice?” Lacey asked bewildered. We hug good game Lacey and I are laughing at how badly they smoked us.
“I need to sit and chill. I've been drinking at a fast pace.” I tell Lacey. We walk over to the porch on the notorious steps. Flip Cup is still happening. Steve and Adam are playing with my cousin and her friends, Reggie and Lindsay vs The Oscar and Nieves boys. This should be good. Lacey and I started talking about how different school will be this year.
“But I don’t want to be one of these couples that become old and boring.” She tells me.
“I still want to go out too and we can have parties at our loft. Like themed parties.” I said excitedly.
“Hey Molly, is that your cousin Kelly?” Lacey nods towards the table looking suspicious.
“Playing flip cup yeah and I don’t know who the girl is, she came to visit from the states why?” I look at Lacey confused then back at the table.
“Well, does her friend know Adam is yours because she’s falling all over him?” The look in Lacey's eyes is pure evil. Glad to know home girls got my back.
“I trust him,” I tell her, then look a little closer at the scene unfolding in front of me, and yes Lacey’s right. Bitch is all over my man. Kelly’s not stopping this either. Keep your cool, Adam’s behaving and they are just playing a game. After a few minutes, the game ends and this chick is hugging him.
“Yeah Molly, do you trust her is a better question?” Lacey raises her eyebrows.
“Nope bitch better back off soon or I’m going bat shit crazy on her ass.” She stops hugging Adam, they are talking now. I can see Eric looking at me and back at Adam and this girl, he walks over to me.
“I’ve seen those eyes before, do you want some back up?” Eric asks, laughing. I look at him with the biggest faces smile and the sweetest voice I ask.
“What are you talking about? I’m as cool as a cucumber, I don’t want to grab her by the hair, drag her to the pool and shove her face in. No, that would be rude, she’s a guest.” Eric laughs, looks at Lacey and asks, “Is she feisty like this in Toronto too?”
“When isn’t she?” Lacey replies.
“Shut up both of you,” I growl. Laughing Eric walks away, arms raised. Ah hell no why is she whispering in his ear? I take a step off the porch about to lose my shit, as I do, this chick has Adam by the hand trying to pull him her way. He pulls his hand away. I can’t hear what is being said, but I love him. I walk up to my cousin, who is standing beside Adam, and in the sweetest Valley girl voice I can muster up I ask, “Hey Kel, can you ask your sank ass hoe of a friend to stop trying to seduce my boyfriend? Kay Thanks” I turn around and the bitch is staring at me with this look of disgust and shock. I strike a pose.
“Would you like to take a picture? I hear they last longer.”
“Who the hell do you think you are?” The bitch asks me ready to fight me. I laugh, grab Adam’s hand and respond.
“Oh, I’m sorry honey that was rude of me, let me introduce myself.” I stick out my free hand.
“I’m Molly, and this is my boyfriend, and you’re at my house, so you better check yourself before I go bat shit crazy on your ass.” I point to the left.
“There's the road, so you best get to steppin.” She just stares at me. I turn to Kelly.
“Sorry I’m not joking, your friend needs to leave now.” Kelly looks past me, so I follow her gaze to my Dad. He throws up his hands and shakes his head as if to say ‘I’m staying out of it’
“Molly, Babe, relax.” Kelly’s friend starts walking to the road. Kelly shakes her head and follows her friend. Adam pulls me up the yard, to the house in the front door. I pull my hand away.
“Are you mad?” Adam sits on the bench, pulls my waist to pull me in between his legs. He rests his head on my chest, I hug his head. Playing with his hair we stayed here for a moment.
“Molly I wasn’t gonna go anywhere with her.”
“I know, but she wasn’t getting the hint.”
“So, calling her names.” Adam starts but I interrupt him.
“Wait so you can come claim me when James has his hand on my ass but when I claim you, I’m being a bitch?”
“Oh, you can claim me all day any day, but I think you were a little rude,” Adam says but squeezes my ass at the same time.
“Well she was trying to take what is mine at my house and I’m a city bitch now so deal with it. I can’t believe you are defending her. You weren’t sitting here watching some girl throw herself at you.” I wine.
“No, you’re right I stood there last night watching you with all your ex’s.” He retorts in a deep voice. I push myself away from Adam. Is he serious? I lean against the railing.
“Yep you did, ex’s who I am friends with now because it was years ago. In my eye’s lifetime ago. But if you can’t deal with that, fine, do you want to become one of them?” I ask rudely, crossing my arms, staring at him.
“Are you really asking me that?” Adam stands up annoyed.
“No, it’s not what I want, I want you to not be mad at me for yelling at some random girl. you once punched a guy for dancing with me.” I remind him.
“Yep I did do that. I also don’t want to fight with you or break up over this.” Confused, I looked him in his eyes. Searching for something that tells me our little fight is over. Adam gives nothing away so I ask.
“So, are we done fighting, can we go party again?"
“Not yet.” Adam walks over, stands right in front of me, looks at me, his eyes change, they turn hungry, he slides his hand to the back of my neck, presses his body against mine, I brace myself on the railing with my hands. Adam moves in closer, and I fully prepare for his lips to find mine, but instead he whispers, “Molly, I will always love you.” He pulls back slightly to gaze into my eyes before pulling my head towards him. Adam kisses me hard and quick, releases me, then gently kisses my forehead, he backs away from me, grabs my hand, then leads me back to the party. I look around it’s like no time has passed at all, the party is still going on as if we never went inside. Lacey and Steve come walking over.
“Hey I think we’re gonna walk downtown wanna come?” I look at Adam.
“Your call babe, we’ll likely see the same people as last night.” Adam smiles.
“A lifetime ago, right?” I turn to Lacey, “We’ll come.” I go inside and get two large travel bottles, fill them with a porch crawler and we head out.
