The days blurred into each other, each moment feeling like an eternity. The air between Dante and me was thick with tension, and the quiet moments we shared were becoming more frequent, more loaded. He didn’t push me further, not yet, but his presence was enough to make me feel as though I was constantly on the edge of something I couldn’t control. He was a force I couldn’t escape, and I was starting to wonder if I even wanted to.
There were times when I would wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, my heart racing as though something inside me was screaming to break free. But then I’d hear the soft rhythm of Dante’s breathing, feel the warmth of his body next to mine, and the fear would dissipate, replaced by a kind of ache I couldn’t explain.
I wasn’t sure if it was desire or fear—or both.
It was impossible to ignore how much I was drawn to him. Every look, every touch, every word he spoke seemed to pull me deeper into his world, until there was no distinction between where I ended and he began. But there were still moments when the weight of it all pressed down on me, moments when I would question myself, question what I was doing. Was I losing myself to him? Was I becoming someone I didn’t recognize?
I had no answers. I had no way of knowing if I was making the right choice or if I was just letting myself be consumed by the dark pull he had on me.
And then, one evening, everything changed.
We were sitting in the living room, the soft glow of the fireplace casting long shadows on the walls. Dante was across from me, his gaze locked on mine with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. He was silent, but I could feel the weight of his thoughts, pressing on me like an invisible force.
"What do you want from me?" I finally asked, my voice trembling slightly despite myself. I had been holding onto that question for days, weeks even, unsure of how to ask it, afraid of the answer.
Dante didn’t answer right away. Instead, he leaned forward, his eyes never leaving mine, as though searching for something in me. "I want you to understand that you belong to me," he said softly, his voice steady, but the underlying intensity was there, thick and palpable. "I don’t want to control you, but I want you to accept the truth. We are meant to be together."
I recoiled at the words, the finality of them. Meant to be together? Was that the excuse he was using to justify everything? To justify the way he’d manipulated me, trapped me in his world with no way out?
"You don’t get to decide that," I shot back, my voice sharp, though I could hear the uncertainty creeping in. "I am not some possession you can claim."
Dante’s eyes flickered with something darker. "I never said you were a possession," he said, his voice cold now, almost imperceptibly so. "But you are mine. You’ve always been mine. I’ve waited too long for you to realize it, but now, I’m not letting you go. Not again."
The words hung in the air, thick with unspoken meaning. My chest tightened, and I felt the walls I had built inside myself start to crumble. What did he mean by again? Had this happened before? Was I merely the next chapter in a story he had already written?
The silence between us stretched on, both of us caught in the tension of it. I could feel my heart hammering in my chest, could feel the anger and frustration bubbling to the surface. "I’m not some toy you can just pull out whenever you want," I spat, my voice trembling with barely contained rage. "You don’t own me."
But even as I said the words, I knew they were a lie. Dante did own me. He had slowly, methodically, taken pieces of me, and I had let him. He was in my blood, in my thoughts, in every waking breath I took. I was caught in his web, and I didn’t know how to break free.
Dante didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stood up, walking over to where I was sitting, his movements slow, deliberate. He didn’t need to say anything to make me feel the gravity of the situation. His presence was enough.
When he reached me, he knelt down in front of me, his hands resting on my knees. His touch was gentle, almost too gentle for someone who had so much control over me. But then again, that was his power—he didn’t need to force anything. He could make me feel things with a single look, a single touch.
"Look at me," he whispered, his voice low, almost reverent. "You may not understand it yet, but we are connected. You and I, we were always meant to be this way. And I will make you see that, no matter how long it takes."
I wanted to push him away. I wanted to scream at him, to tell him I didn’t need him, that I could find my own way. But as I looked into his eyes, I saw something that stopped me. It wasn’t pity or anger or even desire. It was something deeper—something I couldn’t quite name, but something that made me pause.
"You can fight it," he continued, his voice still soft, almost coaxing. "But in the end, you’ll always come back to me. Because we were made for each other. No matter how much you fight it, it’s always going to be us."
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. His words echoed in my mind, each one a hammering beat against my chest. I didn’t know if he was right. I didn’t know if he was playing some twisted game, or if he truly believed what he was saying.
But what terrified me the most was that, somewhere deep inside, I was starting to believe him.
