Days stretched into weeks, and I could feel myself unraveling in ways I didn’t understand. Dante’s presence had become an unspoken force in my life, a constant reminder of everything I was trying to avoid. I spent every waking moment battling the conflicting emotions that raged inside me, struggling to hold onto the part of myself that still wanted freedom. But the more I fought, the more I realized it was slipping away from me, piece by piece.
Each day was a delicate balance, a careful dance between resisting and yielding. I couldn’t tell if I was growing stronger or weaker. In some ways, I hated him for the control he had over me, and yet in others, I was drawn to him, helpless against the pull he had on me. The truth was, I couldn’t deny it anymore. There was something about him that I couldn’t ignore, something that made me ache in ways I didn’t want to understand.
The worst part was, I was starting to accept it. To accept him.
One afternoon, I found myself standing by the window, staring out at the city below, lost in thought. The world seemed so distant from where I was. I longed for the simplicity of life before all of this, when I didn’t have to worry about being caught in Dante’s web. But that world no longer existed. And the worst part? I wasn’t sure I wanted it to.
I heard the door open behind me, and before I could react, Dante’s voice broke the silence. "I can see it in your eyes. You’ve already given in."
I didn’t turn around. I couldn’t. His words were like a blade cutting through the wall I had been building inside myself, and I wasn’t ready to face what that meant.
"I haven’t given in," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "I’m just… tired."
"Tired?" His voice was low, almost amused, but there was an edge to it that sent a shiver down my spine. "Tired of fighting me? Or tired of fighting what you really want?"
I felt my body tense at his words, my heart skipping a beat. I didn’t know how to respond. He was right, in some twisted way. Every time I tried to break free, it was as though I was pulled back to him, like a moth to a flame. But the flame was burning me, and I wasn’t sure how much longer I could take it.
"Don’t act like you don’t know what you want," he continued, his voice now right behind me. "You think you can resist me forever, but deep down, you know you belong to me. I’ve always known it. And so have you."
I swallowed hard, my hands gripping the edge of the window sill. I didn’t want to admit it, but he was right. I had been lying to myself, pretending that I could somehow escape this—escape him. But I couldn’t. Not anymore.
Turning slowly, I faced him, my heart pounding in my chest. His eyes were dark, intense, and there was a hunger in them that made me ache in ways I couldn’t explain. He was waiting for me to say something, to make some kind of declaration, but I didn’t have the words. I was trapped in my own emotions, trapped by the way he made me feel.
"I can’t keep doing this," I finally said, my voice shaking with the weight of the admission. "I don’t know how much longer I can keep pretending I’m not… falling for you."
His expression softened just slightly, though there was still a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Falling for me?" he repeated, his lips curling into a smile that was both reassuring and terrifying. "I don’t want you to fall. I want you to give yourself to me, willingly. To accept what’s always been between us."
I shook my head, taking a step back. "I can’t. I don’t know if I can trust you."
His gaze darkened, and he took a step toward me, closing the distance between us with an unsettling ease. "You don’t need to trust me. You just need to accept that this is who we are. This is what we are."
I wanted to run. I wanted to push him away and scream that I didn’t need him, that I wasn’t his. But as he stepped closer, his presence overwhelming me, I realized I didn’t have the strength to do it. I didn’t have the strength to fight him anymore.
"You can’t escape me," he whispered, his breath warm against my ear. "And you don’t want to."
It wasn’t a question. It was a statement, a certainty that left no room for doubt.
I wanted to argue, to deny it, but all I could do was stand there, frozen, as he reached for me, his hand brushing my cheek with a tenderness that sent a shiver through me. It wasn’t right. It couldn’t be right. And yet, in that moment, I couldn’t find the strength to pull away.
His fingers traced the line of my jaw, and I felt the heat of his touch seeping into my skin, seeping into my soul. I closed my eyes, unable to stop the emotions that flooded through me. Part of me hated him for what he was doing to me, for how he had ensnared me in his grasp. But another part of me, the part I couldn’t control, was drawn to him in a way I couldn’t deny.
Dante was right. I had already given in. I had already accepted that I would never be free of him.
His lips pressed gently against mine, and for a moment, everything else disappeared. There was no past, no future, no consequences. Just the two of us, caught in the moment, locked in a kiss that was both a surrender and a promise.
When he pulled away, his eyes were full of something dark, something possessive. "You’re mine now," he said softly, his voice thick with desire. "And I won’t let you go."
I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t. I was already lost.
As the days passed, I found myself falling deeper into the trap he had set for me. I knew it wasn’t right. I knew I should be angry, should be fighting to get away. But the more I told myself that, the more I realized it was a lie.
Dante had become my world, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to escape it anymore.
