Chapter 10
Chapter 10
A nice time with Ray.
" Hi, Jessica!" Ray turned at Jessica as he was driving and said.
" Cool!" Jessica replied in a jiffy without sparing him a glance.
" You look so worried, what's happening? I know you hate me but this saddened face is unusual of you" Ray said.
" I am fine, Ray" Jessica replied sassily.
Ray was concerned about where she was coming from by this time of the night. He was craving to ask her but he delayed or was it fear? He took courage and asked with a smile.
" Are you coming from the Campus Club?" Ray asked and looked away.
" Yes, why are you concerned?" Bethel responded.
" With the guy? I mean the one that walked inside with you in the morning" Ray asked.
" Yea!" Jessica pouted, wearing a poignant look.
" But why will the guy allow you to walk back home on foot? A true friend or lover will never tolerate that no matter the circumstances" Ray added and smirked.
Bethel examined Ray's sentence, she could see the reality in it, and for a moment she wondered how Hudson did not manage to care about her. Hudson didn't even run after her or make a move to show concern. The reality was just looming over her head but she refused to show it. Hudson had changed from how she knew him, maybe because of his girlfriend, Sara.
" It's none of your business, Ray" Bethel said in a faint tone.
" It's just an opinion though" Ray cleared his throat and said.
Ray stopped at the front of her hostel a few minutes later. Jessica stepped down and said, "Thanks for the ride"
" Ure most welcome" Ray smiled.
Jessica opened the gate and saw a padlock on the door. She lifted her hand to check the time on her silver watch, it was 8 PM and Bethel was not around. She taught Bethel would be on TV for her series movie but unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found. It seemed Eric had come for her. She was stranded with the option and was so bored and bothered. The embarrassment she earned at the campus club affected her mood so she needed someone to talk with right now, anybody at all.
She turned around and caught Ray's icy eyes. Ray was watching her as he leaned over to his car with his hands in his thick blue jeans. She scratched her hair in worry more or less like being timid to talk.
Ray could see that she had no option but to wait till Bethel comes back. He waved his hands at her and said, "Hey, Jessica, I can ride you all over the City to see what the City got if you wouldn't mind"
Jessica waited for what seemed like hours but were just minutes before she moved her legs towards him. She loved the idea. Walking around this city was what she loves. Though she loves nature she also derives more pleasure in watching the bustling of the city on a rooftop. There were about 8 rooftops in this City, maybe she could see them all today.
She got to him and entered the car that had been opened by Ray. Ray entered the car but before he switched on the ignition he inquired, "Where will you like to go?"
" Rooftop!" Jessica pronounced it once and Ray ghat it.
" Oh, I also love looking at the beautiful City on a rooftop," Ray said and smiled.
Ray switched on the ignition and he rode to Maladama's rooftop, one of the most beautiful rooftops in the City.
Jessica stepped her feet on the floor of the aura and got marveled at what she was seeing. It was obvious enough for Ray to notice that she loves this place a lot no matter how much she tried to fake feelings. She was lost in her thoughts before a sandwich cake flashed through her eyes, she jumped back to reality and saw Ray offering her a sandwich cake.
" Have this, Jessica, it will make it fun" Ray said and bite the sandwich cake in his hand.
Jessica collected and took a bite too. " Huhm" she inhaled, she loves it.
Jessica led the way as she was climbing the round stairs to the top of the roof while Ray was following her at the back.
Jessica missed her step while she was surveying the goodies of this place and was about to fall behind when Ray held her hand and pulled her onto himself, they were barely nose to nose, exhaling fresh breaths of each other until Jessica jerked off his hand from hers and continued her steps.
" Be watchful, Jessica" Ray sneaked into her ears from behind.
" don't tell me that, asshole" Jessica answered.
She finally arrived at the rooftop, she covered her mouth in anxiety followed by a giggle.
Ray went behind her and spoke to her ears, " That's the City's Cinema dispensing disco lights" he stretched his hand to the Cinema from the rooftop.
" Wow! It looks so beautiful" Jessica parted her lips and dashed out an extreme smile.
Ray caught her enlivening smile. He said to her, " I never knew you have such a wonderful smile, Jessica"
Jessica turned and looked at his eyes. They looked into each other's eyes for minutes before Jessica moved forward and sat on a metallic beam. She was beginning to generate affection for Ray and Ray could feel it. Ray too was madly in love with Jessica and he could not hide that from her even if he could hide it from his friends.
Ray moved to her and sat down beside her. They were mute, watching the beautiful City from an angle of depression.
" You look beautiful, Jessica" Ray broke the silence and fixed his gaze on his focus.
Jessica turned her neck to him and responded, "Thanks!"
" And then I never knew you were so good in mathematics, that was great of you" Ray added and clapped his hands once for her.
Jessica looked at him, his cute face becoming more visible to her but she didn't say a word until Ray turned at her and their gaze met again for the second time today.
" I wish I could also be a great mathematician like you someday," Ray said to her face.
" Mathematics is commitment, Ray, you need to give it your time". She quickly added, "And most importantly, you should not bully a great mathematician like me again"
" Agreed" Ray quickly said.
" And you must not be so pompous if you want to be a great mathematician like me" Jessica raised one of her fingers and spoke.
" Agreed!" Ray added again.
" I always want to become a professor in mathematics but I find it hard to get the tricks," Ray said and looked away.
Jessica smiled and jolted, she was feeling sorry for him. Moreover, she wondered why a pompous guy like Ray wanted to become a professor in mathematics.
" But you are rich why do you need to become a professor in mathematics?" Jessica asked treacherously.
" My grandfather was a great mathematician during his time and I have always wanted to be like him, it's my dream and my passion" Ray looked into Jessica's eyes and pronounced meanly.
" Your grandfather?" Jessica turned at Ray and asked in jest. Jessica didn't believe a professor could come from Ray's family. Ray's father was a billionaire and a well-known person in the City so she was not sure if Ray was not lying. Plus, Jessica knows most of the mathematics professors in the City. She had read a lot of textbooks and could detect if Ray was lying to impress her.
" Yes, his name is John Bird" Ray pronounced boldly.
" Hey, stop there! I hate it when you lie, how can John Bird be your grandfather?" Jessica said told Ray and smiled in mockery.
Ray slid his hand into his thick blue jeans and brought out his I-phone series and tapped it to wake it up. Ray tapped on the gallery folder where his childhood pictures were kept and pushed it to his eyesight of Jessica.
" What? So it's damn true?". Jessica stood up from the door and looked at Ray surprisingly.
John Bird was her motivation, she had always wanted to meet him but unfortunately, he died. Though, John Bird had once carried her on his shoulder that was in her diapers. She loved the fact that she could see the descendant of her motivation.
" John Bird had contributed efficiently to my mathematical skills" Jessica looked up to the blue moon and said.
" So I think you have to help his descendant to become just like him" Ray added and tapped on his camera application.
" What's that?" Jessica asked.
" It's a selfie" Ray responded and flashes two shots of her.
He handed it over to her to check. He smiled anticipating that she would love the pictures but none were of her choices. She crinkled her nose and said, "Are you also bad at taking selfies?"
" I think I am best at using my handy camera" Ray answered feeling so disappointed.
" How come were you so good in mathematics?" Ray sneaked in.
" As you always call me a local girl. I faced my book to make my little brother and my grandma proud" Jessica said and bite the sandwich cake in her hand.
" Oh, cool, I wish to be good too," Ray said and bite the sandwich in his hand too.
They had jists together and had nice moments together on the rooftop before she went back home. However, Jessica found Ray to be interesting and fun to be with.
