Chapter 9

Her nemesis

Jessica took her bath ahead of Hudson's arrival. They have planned to hang out today and just together once again.

She poured a few particles of powder into her hands and applied it on her neck to prevent rashes. She dragged her nylon and looked for a dress to wear. Jessica was stranded with choices, she had no better wear than the one she wore this morning. She was ashamed to wear her local dress tonight but she got no choice.

Bethel was in the room watching TV. They haven't talked since they had a little disagreement in the campus garden in the afternoon and Jessica was not ready to talk to Bethel.

Bethel was watching Jessica with one corner of her eyes, she knew she was going out somewhere which was unusual of her especially when she was studying her local dresses.

" Where are you going to?" Bethel rested her jaw on her hand and asked.

Jessica didn't expect Bethel to talk to her after she walked out of her in the Campus garden in the afternoon but Bethel played maturity.

" To meet Hudson," Jessica said and blushed.

" You never told me you are now in love with this guy, all you said was that you like him," Bethel said and smiled.

" It's none of your business, Bethel," Jessica said playfully.

" Oh, I see" Bethel responded playfully.

" I think you need something like this for a hang out" Bethel threw a package to Jessica and she caught it.

Jessica shot Bethel a glimpse before she removed the sealing tape on the package and saw a strapless mini-black dress.

Jessica rolled her eyes and parted her lips in anxiety.

" What's that?" Bethel asked in a faint tone.

" Who bought this?" Jessica asked and furrowed her brow as she stared at the dress in her hand.

Bethel stood up from the bed and walked up to Jessica. She patted her shoulder and spoke, " Jessica, Ray asked me to give it to you"

" No, not again, Bethel" Jessica said and dropped the dress on the bed.

Bethel picked it up again and said, "Baby girl, I understand the fact that you don't like Ray but that doesn't mean you should treat him like an asshole. Even if you don't love him give him room for friendship"

" Bethel.....,

" Shush" Bethel crossed Jessica's lips with her first finger and shut her words.

" I know he is pompous and arrogant but at least give him a chance for friendship," Bethel said.

Jessica took the dress on the floor and wore it. She was not happy to wear it though but she wore it just to make Bethel happy.

" Wow! You look so resplendent, Jessica" Bethel said happily.

Jessica giggled and stared at her reflection in the mirror. She smiled and said, " I love the dress though"

" Then, promise me you won't walk away from Ray again?" Bethel said.

" Okay, fine, that's if he doesn't piss me off" Jessica added.

" He won't, Jessica" Bethel took her perfume and applied it to her body.

( Hudson's car horned)

" Oh, I think Hudson is here already," Bethel said.

" Yes, I think so" Jessica redressed and gifted Bethel a hug before she moved out of the room to meet Hudson.

Bethel and Hudson got to a nightclub where students of the Campus were dancing and making out with their lovers.

They sat down at a round table and were opposite themselves.

They were on a jist galore when a fair girl walked up to them and slammed their table, causing the drinks on the table to roll to the floor.

Her name is Sara and she was the girlfriend of Hudson. She was a year older than Hudson but not in the same class as him. She heard the rumor that Hudson was dating Jessica after they bounced Into Prof. Ramson's class in the afternoon, she was here to warn Jessica.

" Hey, poor girl, I heard you are hovering around my boyfriend because you solved a question on the chalkboard?" Sara hit Jessica's body and caused her to slide off her chair to the floor.

Jessica was embarrassed as she sat on the floor and watched Sara screaming and embarrassing her in front of other students in the club.

" She's just someone who I needed to help, Sara," Hudson said and helped Jessica to get back on her feet.

In her rage, Jessica moved outside the club and moved angrily with her legs towards her lodge.

She was walking back to her lodge with tears on her face when Ray's car approached her. She saw his car coming but she turned her face down to hide away from Ray.

Fortunately, Ray could sight Jessica as she walked past him. Ray was going to the same club where Jessica left to flex his time with his friends. He horn his car to call for Jessica but she pretended as if she didn't hear it.

Ray off the ignition and rushed out of his car to meet Jessica.

" Hey, Je- Jessica" Ray finally got to Jessica and stopped her.

Jessica cleaned her broken tears stylishly and looked into Ray's face. " What happened what do you want?"

" Jessica, let me give you a ride back home," Ray said before he added, " I love your dress, you look so beautiful like a fallen star"

Jessica's knots grew into butterflies. She smiled and said, "Thanks, Ray"

" Come on let me take you home!" Ray said and quickly moved to his car and opened the door for Jessica.

Jessica walked up to him and moved inside his car. Moreover, Jessica was surprised that Ray was not pompous as she thinks. He even opened his car door for her.

Ray made wise use of Bethel's advice and it worked for him. He threw his waist to dance and entered his car.
