Chapter 44

Chapter 44
Alicia was standing at the edge of the secret passage outside of the castle as she watched Althea and Luis go further and further into the woods.

Alicia had a smirk on her face, finally that annoying woman was gone and she would be the one to take her place as Damian's baroness.

Alicia already had a plan of how she was going to do this, she knew that Damian was going to be angry since Althea was now gone. She would pretend to be his friend and go over to comfort him and then, when he's vulnerable, she would let him see how good she was.

Althea, who had walked a few steps away, stopped and turned to look at Alicia.

Alicia waved at her and gestured for her to leave fast, she had an innocent smile on her face.

Althea, who still had no idea what was going on, smiled and turned to leave with Luis.

She was finally free from Damian, she knew that she could not go back home now because her father would be mad she escaped since it will affect him greatly.

He might even send her back to Damian, Althea had made up her mind that she would find somewhere to hide first once she was out of Westland.

Alicia on the other hand turned and walked back into the castle with an evil grin on her face.

A few of the maids she walked past bowed and greeted her as Lady Alicia. Alicia managed to hide the rage that she was feeling, one day, all of these people would refer to her as the baroness and not just as Lady Alicia.

Her personal maid was already waiting for her when she got into her carriage.

"My Lady is she gone?"  The maid asked quite nervously.

Deep down, she was afraid that Alicia would be caught. She knew the kind of person Alicia was.

If Damian found out what she was doing and decided to punish her, the maid knew that Lady Alicia would take her anger out on her .

Alicia smirked happily, "of course, she's gone! I am the one handling things, do you think I'd let someone who is a threat to me remain?" Alicia snorted, a proud look on her face.

Nora had a worried look on her face "Are you sure that it's a good idea to let her go through the woods though? It's very dangerous. And besides, you could have let her escape through one of your father's hidden ships. The baron doesn't know anything about that" The maid argued .

"Shut up!" Alicia suddenly fanned a slap over at the maid's face, her five fingers appearing on Nora’s face .

Nora was stunned, but lowered her head at once and didn't dare look at Alicia.

"Are you stupid? If she uses my father's ship then Damian will know that I have something to do with this. I can't take that risk!! Besides do you really think that I'd let Althea off like that?" Alicia had a dangerous sneer on her face as she said this.

The maid raised her head slowly and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the look on Alicia's face.

"What...what do you mean by that?" The maid asked in a shaky tone.

"The only way Althea won't come back to cause trouble for me is if she's dead!" Alicia declared coldly.

She had thought about it for a long time, Althea would be sure to return to her own kingdom, but Damian could always go back there and bring her back with him.

He was the baron, and not even the king could stop him, so the only way to make sure that Althea would be gone forever was if she died!

"Does that mean you already have a plan?" The maid asked in a tiny and shaky voice.

Knowing the kind of person that Alicia was...her life was probably already in danger.

"Ha ha" Alicia gave a short laugh, "the woods is filled with all sorts of dangerous things. It really won't be suspicious if she gets torn into pieces by some beast!"

Althea stuck close to Luis as they made their way through the woods.

"We have to be careful, Luis. Alicia said that the woods are very dangerous," Althea warned him.

Luis looked at the pale face of the woman who was hanging on to his arm, he could tell that she was scared, but she was still determined to leave no matter what

"I understand that you are scared, but you can’t possibly think of going back? The journey will not be easy, but I know we will find a way out of here alive” Luis said.

She shook her head firmly, Althea knew .this was her only chance! There was no way she would go back.

"Let's be fast! You know we can't return to the kingdom right now. I think there are some small villages outside Westland.  We should find one that's farther away from the Baron and settle down for a while," Althea suggested.

Luis nodded his head at this plan, he knew that the king, Althea's father, would never accept them back cause if he did, he would be putting himself in danger and the kingdom too. He was not as powerful as the Baron of Westland is. In fact, he was in trouble for helping her escape.

"I..." Luis was about to say something when he heard a loud roar in the otherwise quiet woods.

He pulled a trembling Althea to himself immediately as his gaze scanned the area, looking for what had made that noise.

Suddenly, a beast jumped down from a tall tree, and snarled menacingly at both of them.

Althea gasped and she now recognised the creature in front of her.

It was one of those werewolves!

It took Luis just a few seconds to realize what was going on and so he grabbed Althea's hand as he broke into a run.

He knew he could not fight this beast, so running was their only option.
