Chapter 72: Twins’ Birthday
“Mommy!” a high-pitched voice called out, waking Amy from her sleep. It had been a week since what happened between her and Zack, and their reconciliation.
“Mommy, wake up, come on, Daddy's here,” her child said sweetly, tugging at her hand to get her up.
“Hmm, baby, three more minutes, please,” she responded lovingly, making Aliah leave the room with a pout.
Three minutes later, Zack entered Amy's room and started planting kisses on her.
“Hmm…” Amy murmured softly.
“Wake up, sleepy Mommy,” Zack said tenderly, causing Amy to open her eyes. They locked gazes for a moment before Zack kissed her again, and she responded in kind.
“As much as I want to keep kissing you, the kids are waiting, Love,” Zack said with a chuckle. Amy pouted at his words.
“I’ll follow,” she replied before Zack left the room.
Amy stood up, and just as she did, her phone buzzed. She checked it and read the reminder: “Twins’ Birthday Today.” She almost forgot amidst everything happening in her life lately. She hurriedly got dressed, eager to greet her kids.
When she was ready, she went downstairs.
“Mommy, you’re so slow!” Aliah complained, laughing.
“Sorry, baby. Mommy’s here now!” Amy said as she picked up Aliah and kissed her on the cheek.
The whole family was in the living room, including Zack and Josh, who was playing with his new toy.
“Happy birthday, my loves!” Amy greeted enthusiastically while hugging the twins. “Mommy loves you so much.”
The kids smiled and shouted in unison, “Thank you, Mommy!”
Zack walked over, carrying a tray of cupcakes with candles on top.
“Alright, time to blow the candles, kiddos. Make a wish first!” he said, placing the tray on the table.
The twins looked at each other for a moment, held hands, and closed their eyes to make their wishes.
Afterwards, they blew out the candles together. Applause erupted from everyone present, including the household staff and Zack.
“Yay! Happy Birthday!” everyone cheered.
As Aliah munched on her cupcake, she leaned close to Zack and whispered, “Daddy, are we still going to do the surprise for Mommy later?” Zack smiled and nodded.
“Of course, baby. It's our secret, okay?” he whispered back with a wink.
Meanwhile, Amy was busy playing with Josh. Zack couldn’t help but admire how happy she looked. It strengthened his resolve to take care of their family wholeheartedly.
Later that afternoon, a surprise awaited Amy—one that Zack and the twins had been planning to show her just how much she meant to them.
After breakfast, Amy noticed Zack and the twins busy decorating in the living room.
“What are you doing over there?” she asked, curious. Zack and the twins just smiled.
“Secret, Mommy!” Aliah said, giggling along with Josh.
Amy laughed and decided not to press further. She headed to the kitchen to prepare snacks for the guests coming to the twins’ birthday celebration later.
Hours passed, and friends and family arrived. The house was lively, decorated with balloons and themes—unicorns for Aliah and superheroes for Josh.
While Amy chatted with guests, Zack suddenly called her.
“Love, come here,” he said, holding her hand.
She followed him to the garden, which was lit up with fairy lights. There, the twins were waiting, holding a large banner that read:
“Thank you for being the best Mommy in the world. We love you!”
Tears welled up in Amy’s eyes. Josh and Aliah approached her, each holding a flower, and hugged her tightly.
“We love you, Mommy!” they said in unison.
Zack walked up to her with a small box in hand. When he opened it, there was an elegant necklace with a heart-shaped pendant.
“Amy, thank you for everything. You’re the heart of this family. I love you,” Zack said as he fastened the necklace around her neck.
Amy couldn’t hold back her tears. “Thank you, Zack. Thank you, kids. I love you so much,” she said, hugging her family tightly. At that moment, she knew true happiness—her family was complete, happy, and filled with love.
After the emotional moment, the party in the garden began. Everyone had fun while the twins excitedly opened their presents. Aliah was thrilled with her new unicorn toys and princess outfits, while Josh couldn’t get enough of his new superhero action figure collection.
As Amy watched her kids, Zack couldn’t help but smile. He approached her and hugged her from behind.
“You look so happy, Love,” he whispered.
Amy turned to him with a smile. “Of course. How could I not be? We’re complete, Zack. I couldn’t ask for more.”
As the evening wound down and the guests said their goodbyes, the family stayed together in the garden. Zack and Amy quietly sat on a bench while the twins played on the lawn. Zack held Amy’s hand and took a deep breath.
“Amy,” Zack said, his voice hesitant.
Amy looked at him, curious. “Hmm? What is it?”
Zack pulled out another box from his pocket. When he opened it, a simple but stunning ring was revealed.
Amy’s eyes widened.
“Zack…” she whispered, unable to believe it.
Zack stood and knelt before her.
“Amy, we’ve been through so much, and I haven’t always done the right thing. But one thing I’m sure of is that I love you so much, and I want to be with you forever,” Zack said, his voice filled with emotion. “Will you marry me, Amy? For real this time, as my wife and the mother of our beautiful kids?”
Amy couldn’t hold back her sobs and nodded repeatedly. Zack smiled and slipped the ring onto her finger.
He stood up and embraced her tightly as the twins ran over.
“Mommy, Daddy, are you getting married?” Aliah asked excitedly.
Amy laughed and knelt down to hug the kids. “Yes, baby. Daddy just asked Mommy to marry him, and I said yes.”
The twins clapped and cheered, shouting, “Yay!”
That night, under the sparkling stars, Zack and Amy’s love became even stronger—a new beginning for their story as a true family.
