Chapter 128 Bound to happen

Chapter 128 Bound to happen

Scarlett's POV.

I picked the call up and Walter's voice came, the way he sounded confirming my doubts.

“What the hell did you do, Christian?” He half yelled.

I smirked again. I bet his name is the only one trending on the internet at the moment. If the detective wasn't a righteous one, it wouldn't have happened as he would have informed the higher ups who would have covered it up.

Even with that, Walter could have covered it up if it hadn't ended up on the internet.

“Has the police called you for questioning yet?” I smirked, tucking my other hand into my pocket.

“Why did you do it?” He asked.

I looked Scarlett in the eyes, walking past her, my eyes telling her we'll discuss later.

I walked up the stairs, not replying to Walter yet.

“My wife is furious that someone had tried to kill us” I paused. “She wants me to take action on that and have the police punish whoever is behind it”

“I had no choice.” I said. “I wouldn't want her to find out what we've been doing to her afterall”

Walter scoffed. “Don't worry, you won't go down with that” I was teasing him.

“Of course, I can't, you asshole!” He roared. “Your brother did it! You should have told that to the police instead!”

“Now everyone is questioning me, my stocks are plummeting and my face is all over the internet!”

Yes, I knew that would hurt Walter and that's why I had done this. His ego, dignity and honor was all he had ever cared about.

That was the reason why he had always taken care of the kids he ruined their lives right from when they were kids.

“I don't care if this is your idea or your wife's.” He said. “Just know that that girl is not safe!”

I curled my fists. “You won't harm her”

Walter laughed. “Ethan told me but I thought he was just bluffing. So, you really want to give everything up for that girl?”

“I'd like to see you try, Christian” he said. “Congratulations on this one, you took a step against me and you won”

He ended the call while I still held the phone to my ears, my fingers tightening around the phone.

I had known Walter long enough to know that the words he had just spoken now were not bluffs.

I really need to protect Scarlett from him. I don't care what they do to her parents, but not her and her sister.

I walked back downstairs and Scarlett was still standing on the same spot I had left her. She turned to face me and her face was darkened.

“Now you have my time?” She asked.

I ignored that and only said what I had intended to say.

“I took care of the camera issues, you—” she cut me off fast and sharp.

“Don't tell me that! Who did it, that's what I want to know!” She snapped at me like she had predicted that I would try to hide the truth from her. But no way I'm telling her that.

“You don't need to know, all you need to know is all I've told you” I looked at her, matching the look on her face. “I've taken care of it”

“One more thing” I paused. “You need to stop going to the company”

She blinked at those words. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“What I mean is, I don't want you working anymore” I said, my voice more loud, words more clear.

She laughed. “You mean in your company?” Her face twitched in disgust.

“You are to stay at home only as my wife, nothing else” I said to her.

She threw her head back, laughing but her face was filled with disbelief.

“And what has suddenly gotten into you?” She asked. “Have you suddenly gone insane?”

“Why the hell should I stop working when you know how much I've been trying to prove to your employees that I'm fit for the job?” She asked.

I took in a deep breath and straightened my back. “Exactly because of that. You are not competent so stop trying so hard”

It wasn't the first time I would be telling lies to Scarlett Carrington but it was the first time I would be feeling such unease after telling her a lie.

“Your place in the office will be replaced tomorrow, so just stay put in the house” I said and turned, wanting to walk back to my room when she grabbed my arm, forcing me to turn to her.

“Who do you think you are? A god?” She scoffed. “You think I won't find another job?”

“I'm your husband, Scarlett. Your goddamn husband and you listen to me” I didn't wait for her to reply before I yanked my arms away from him and walked up the stairs.

In my room, I couldn't stop thinking about what she had said about finding another job. I knew who she'd go to.

I put a call across to a number and the line was picked almost immediately.

Logan's voice came from the other end of the phone.

“You are quick, Christian. Walter looks doomed already” he said.

“Scarlett” I called, ignoring his words. “Don't think about offering her a job. Walter is after her and I'll be protecting her”

“I told you not to do this,” he groaned.

“I'll handle him and I'll protect Scarlett, don't worry about her” I said but wasn't sure he was convinced as he didn't say a word afterwards.

“About Walter,” I paused, going silent like I was still thinking about what to say.

Logan's voice rose. “You haven't decided what to do about him yet?”

I raised my head high, took a deep breath and spoke. “Let's take him down together”

“Let's expose him and put an end to his tantrum”

It was a difficult decision to make but it was bound to happen anyways. He took care of us and made us who we were but he was also one of the reasons why we lost things in the first place.
