Eighty four
Selene's POV
I knocked on the door of the office, and soon, a clear female voice rang out.
"Come in," she called out, and I turned the knob, opening the door to enter.
After I entered and closed the door behind me, I looked at the lady behind the desk. It is a pretty young woman with short Bob hair. She looked up at me and immediately smiled.
"How may I help you?" She asked, and I stepped closer to her.
"President Dominic told me to come to you. He said you'll brief me through the details of my job and what I am assigned to do."
She paused for a moment after I said this and looked up at me. She seemed to be contemplating something, but a moment later, she seemed to have recalled and exclaimed, "Oh, that's true!" She clapped her palms and smiled. "You're the new secretary coming in today."
I couldn't really figure out why she was being so excited, but I returned the smile and nodded. "Yes, I'm the one."
She smiled even wider and told me to take a seat. After I did so, she brought out a file and placed it in front of me. Then, she said, "That contains all the notes left by the previous secretaries. It contains the president's preferences and all that."
"Oh." I nodded, picking up the file and looking at it. "The president's preferences?"
She nodded. "Yes. His meal preferences, restaurants he likes going, bar houses, and all his official tastes in schedule timing and places to hold meetings. Also, details about his girlfriends and the likes..."
"But I thought..." I began, before recalling myself, ro avoid offending anyone. But wasn't I hired to be a secretary? I was meant to deal with all official matters. Being in charge of his meals and restaurant preferences was still acceptable, but I also had to keep a check in his girlfriends?
Not to mention, I hadn't perceived him to be someone who kept a lot of girlfriends and played around. I was surprised but I didn't show it.
However, the lady seemed to have understood my silent questions. She smiled and commented, "You're surprised? You will be in charge of a lot of official matters and personal matters of the president, too. For example, setting up dates for him and fitting his personal schedules into the official ones. You also have to know how to deal with the different girlfriends that come by and their contrasting personalities. If you don't know them well, how would you know how to deal with them if they run into one another here?"
I was speechless and didn't know how to respond, but I understood what she meant. It was better to be safe and read it in detail.
I nodded. "I'll read everything. Thank you."
She seemed satisfied as she commented, "You're a fast learner. Since you've understood all that, I suppose you know that you have to keep your lips sealed here no matter what you hear and see?"
I didn't need her to tell me that. Even if I was in the lowest position here, I'd keep my lips 'mum'. I had seen and heard a lot of secrets in the pack that would have shaken the earth if I started to spill them. But I decided to keep them to myself and mind my business.
I nodded at her. "Don't worry, I always mind my business no matter where I go."
I could tell she was very satisfied with my reply as she shrugged, "I don't think there is anything else. Just know that keep your eyes and ears open so you don't miss anything over here and simply obey orders. Don't give your own opinions if you want to last long."
That wasn't new. I had done that my whole life, and I was used to keeping my thoughts to myself anyway.
"I understand."
She clapped her palms and said, "That's all there is to know. You can go and begin your work." She paused and looked at the file in my arms before saying, "Since you can't finish that now, I'll give you a hint. Get him a cup of black coffee for the morning, no sugar and put his lunch on Orchard restaurant."
I was immensely grateful of her help as I had been pondering on what to do to get in his good graces.
"Thank you,..." I paused, trailing off as I didn't know what to call her.
She also realizes this. "Just call me Vivian. I worked with the previous secretary so you can come to me if you need any assistance or insight."
"Alright, I will. Thank you very much, Ms. Vivian."
She smiled and turned in her laptop. "I had better get to work. You should go to your office too."
"Yes, I will." I got up and thanked her again before turning and leaving her office.
