Chapter 82: Eighty three
Selene's POV
It was the man I had bumped into on the day of my interview. My initial assumption that he was just an employee in charge of the interview was shattered. I couldn't believe that he was the president of the company. But then, why did he bother himself to join the recruitment board and interview us that day? It was a mystery that perplexed me.
However, I quickly regained my composure and walked further into the room, greeting him respectfully. "Good morning, President Dominic. I am here ro resume for work."
He didn't initially respond to my words but after a few moments, he paused what he was doing, placing the files he had been reading on the table, and looked at me with a cold and indifferent expression. His aura was completely different from the first time we met. I felt a shiver run down my spine, but I maintained my professional demeanor.
"Why were you late?" he asked, his voice devoid of any warmth or understanding. He looked at his wristwatch before adding, "You are ten minutes late on your first day at work. Where is your commitment to this job?"
I inwardly panicked, but I had to think quickly to come up with an explanation. I couldn't let this first impression ruin my chances at this job.
"I had an issue at the elevator, President," I replied calmly. "None of them were working, and I had to wait for a while before finding an alternative."
He continued to stare at me, his piercing eyes seemingly searching for any signs of weakness or deception. I held his gaze, determined not to let him intimidate me.
"I hope it won't happen again," he finally said, his voice still stern. "Punctuality is crucial in this company."
I nodded, trying to convey my understanding and determination. "Of course. I assure you that it was an exceptional circumstance, and I will make sure to be on time in the future."
He seemed to ponder my response for a moment before leaning back in his chair. "Very well. Let's consider it a one-time occurrence. But remember, I expect excellence from my employees."
"Yes, President Dominic," I affirmed, feeling a mix of relief and determination. I couldn't let this setback deter me. I was determined to prove myself worthy of this opportunity.
He seemed to dismiss me with a wave of his hand. "You may go now. Meet the clerk at the other office to brief you on al the details of your job. Make sure to familiarize yourself with your duties and responsibilities."
"Thank you, sir," I replied, giving a slight nod before turning to leave the room.
As I closed the door behind me, I couldn't shake off the feeling of his cold gaze lingering on my back. I couldn't tell if he simply didn't trust me and was assessing me, or if he was just looking at me. Anyway, I kept my composure knowing fully well that he wanted to intimidate me and I was not going to feed him any of that. I walked out with my head high as I strode to the office next door.
