Chapter 36 After 5 years

“When are you coming over? It’s been a week!” Chrissy shouted on the phone.

“This Monday, promise.” Eve said.

“You better come, otherwise….” Chrissy was about to say something when Eve completed her sentence.

“Otherwise, you’ll break my legs. I know that, mom!” She laughed while teasing Chrissy.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. She smiled looking up at the closed door.

“She is at the door, Chrissy. I’ll call you later.” And she hung up.

She walked towards the door, opened the door and then closed her eyes with a smile on her face. Clearly, she was expecting someone.

“Hey, baby.” The voice made her freeze. She opened her eyes only to be shocked. Her worst nightmare came true. It was him.

Ayden, the man from whom she was hiding from the past five years. Now when finally she was happy, he came again… standing in front of her.

He looked the same, radiating a dark persona with a beautiful exterior. She shivered when he extended his hand towards her.

She was so afraid of him that even if she saw him in her dream, she could not sleep the whole night. Now when he was standing in front of her, her legs were wobbly.

“Missed me?” With this, he entered and closed the door. Eve shivered looking at him and took her steps back as he was walking towards her.

Then, gathering herself she ran towards her phone while Ayden grabbed her hand instantly and pulled her closer to him, hugging her tightly. She was trembling in fear.

“You are still my wild cat. Well, some things never change!” Eve struggled to get out of his embrace but couldn’t. He looked at her with mesmerising eyes.

He found her finally after 5 years. But she looked exactly the same, even better. Her long hair was even longer and those curves on her body were even more curvier now. He couldn’t wait to devour her but restrained his desires. Sooner or later, she’ll be in his arms, moaning his name.

He moved his hands on her face while his thumb trailed her lips. His other hand moved towards her waist in a tight embrace. All of a sudden, his lips were on hers. He kissed her forcefully and she stood frozen.

“But sometimes, it’s crazy how fast things change.” And his hands moved towards her hair, stroking them while speaking. All of a sudden, he pulled her hair and looked at her face.

She looked at him with terror-filled eyes but no word came out of her mouth. The look on his face was obvious that he was going to kill her.

“Don’t you think you owe me an explanation!” He said in a slightly loud tone while grabbing her chin. He wasn’t angry at her but was sad, which Eve noticed.

“For fuck’s sake, say something!” He roared, looking at her awestruck face.

“How… Why are.. you here?” She whispered in confusion. The fear was clear on her face. He was still holding her otherwise she would’ve fallen down on the floor.

He smirked at her and then continued, “I finally found you!”

“Out of all the things your friends did to ruin me, they got lucky with just one thing. They took you away from me.” He said, talking about the NSF.

She pushed him when his grip wasn’t that tight on her and exhaled heavily. Calming herself, she bent down and put her hands on her knees for support.

“Do you know how deeply you ruined me! Everything fell apart once you left me.” He said, coming closer to her and looking at her in anger.

“Grace.. Do you remember her?” He asked, twisting her arm.

Eve got frightened when she heard her name. She looked down, panic bubbling inside her. She remained silent.

“Or your friend, Laura. You ran away, leaving her to die.” The topic of Laura was always the sensitive one. Tears came out of her eyes, after hearing her name. He wasn’t wrong about that, she indeed left her friend to die, the thought of which still haunted her.

“Oh, so you remember them! She was supposed to be with you and then I would’ve never lost you. But that fucking Richards and his team! They took you away.” He blabbered and she didn’t understand a word of it.

“How…did you find me?” She asked while looking at him, shivering badly.

“Even destiny wants us to be together. I was desperately searching for you and when I came here, where I didn’t want to come…I found you.” He replied with a mysterious smile.

“They.. lied to me.” Eve whispered.

“What did they tell you? That they killed me and my men?” He questioned with a sarcastic laughter, looking at her for an answer.

“Yes.” And, he laughed out loud when he heard it.

“That’s how they covered up their defeat, by lying to the girl who actually helped them. What did they tell you about Stefan?” Eve stood rooted on the spot when he said that. What more did he know, the thought made her restless.

“How do I know about Stefan?” He asked, sensing her shocked face.

“I knew everything from the time you got drunk and stopped me from going! God! How wild you were that day.” With a shameless grin, he said while Eve turned her face to another side.

She was shocked, scared and enraged all at the same time.

‘He knew everything from that day, yet he still acted in front of me. Why didn’t he kill me then and there? The NSF deceived me into believing false things and also hid god knows how many things!’ She thought but didn’t say it aloud.

“What about Stefan?” She asked, suddenly realising that he said his name before. Charles told her five years back that she couldn’t have any links with Phoebe, Stefan or any other officers as the mission was over and also for her safety.

Ayden moved towards her and pulled her closer to him again. His hands automatically held her tiny waist.

“Why are you so curious?” With this, he tightened his grip on her waist, staring at her eyes.

“You haven’t changed a bit. Just tell me!” She shouted.

It amused him to see her shouting at him after so long. It was very refreshing for him. He smiled at her and then caressed her face. She looked away from him.

“He is no more. Not only him, many of the NSF team members too.” By the look of his eyes, she knew it was the truth. The NSF was unsuccessful and the proof was right in front of her eyes.

She started hitting him on his chest while he just continuously stared at her. His grip loosened on her and she drew back from her.

“YOU SHOULD’VE DIED THAT DAY!!! WHY DO YOU LIVE!!”

She screamed in frustration. Ayden glared at the girl acting all brave.

“It isn’t so easy to kill me.” Eve had tears in her eyes. Everyone fooled her. For NSF, she went into such danger and got information. And now, it was revealed that it was her who got fooled by the NSF as well as the man standing in front of her.

“I prayed for your death every single day or that you must be in at least as much misery as you gave me! But God is so unfair!” She said in between her cries.

Ayden clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. Then, he marched towards her and clutched her arms, pushing her to the wall behind her.

“BE QUIET!! Don’t force me to do something I may regret later!” He said, controlling his urge to hit her. He moved closer to her, exhaling heavily on her shoulder.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang and both of them looked towards the door. She gulped in fear which Ayden noticed.

“Who would that be?” He said, looking at her pale face.

Eve was about to open the door when Ayden grabbed her hand to stop her.

“Stand here.” He was still angry at her rude words and she made him even more angry by not listening to him.

He grabbed her arm in a stronghold and she winced in pain.

“Don’t try me, Eve!”

She stood there frozen, looking at the door. Ayden opened the door and was shocked.

“Mom, you can open your eyes!.... Who are you?” A little girl was standing in front of him, calling Eve her mom and looking at the stranger with curiosity filled eyes.

Ayden was looking at Eve as how a wolf watches its prey before hunting. She knew her secret would be out now.
