Chapter 93 Working together with the nemesis
Chapter 93: Working Together with The Nemesis
The week continued with more activities. Although they were doctors in the making, they knew how to have fun.
It was the last students' week they would be having on OCU campus before they moved to the teaching hospital.
They gathered in the lecture hall for quizzes and trivia. There were four teams represented with names of colors.
To ensure fairness, the students were asked to draw ballots to determine the group they belonged to.
At the end of the ballot, Golden and Linda fell in the same group. They were team Orange.
Fab and Allan picked the same group and were team Violet. While Alex grouped with others. She was in team Blue.
After the grouping, Fab approached Golden with a smirk. When they had been asked to reveal their cards, they were all shocked to see that Golden and Linda actually picked the same team.
Linda had thrown a tantrum and asked that her team be changed, but their course adviser refused.
The whole essence of the ballot was to make sure that people got to work with other people.
“Wow Gigi, some luck you have teaming up with your bestie.” Fab said with an air quote. “We are so gonna crush you guys like a bug.”
“Ha-ha. Very funny. Don't get so cocky yet, you never can tell what's going to happen.” Golden smiled at Fab.
“Well good luck babes. I wouldn't go easy on you just because you are my girlfriend.” Allan said smirking.
“Now that's more like it.” Fab said patting Allan on the shoulder. “For a moment, I thought you would go easy on her and sell us out.”
“Oh well, I wasn't planning on cutting you any slack either. While we are here trying to crush each other, Alex is with her teammates strategizing how to win.
Now if you two gentlemen will excuse me, I have a competition to win.”
Golden then made a B-line to where her teammates were. She sighted Linda in a corner shooting daggers at her with her eyes.
Golden felt a headache coming on, but she made her way to where Linda was anyways.
They had to figure out a way to put their issues aside and work together. Fab had voiced out his opinion, she was pretty sure everyone else thought the same.
“Can I have a word with you?” Golden asked Linda.
“What do you want Fatty?” Linda asked. She wasn't happy that she was in the same group with Golden.
Then she had seen Golden talking and smiling with both Allan and Fab.
“Look Linda, I know you hate my guts. Trust me, the feeling is very mutual. But somehow we have landed in the same group.
Everyone expects us to tear each other down. They don't think we can win, but if it's okay can we put aside our differences for a while and work together?” Golden paused, giving Linda some minutes to consider her proposition.
“Look we can go back to hating our guts after this. We are amongst the smartest people in class. Plus I know you love winning as much as I do.
It would be a shame to let our issues keep us from winning. Let's surprise everyone with a landslide victory.
So? What do you say?” Golden asked hopeful.
Linda thought about what Golden said. She wasn't wrong about her love for winning.
She hated that Golden was right. “Look Fatty even though we are working together, that doesn't make us friends. I still don't like you.
And if anyone asks, I came up with the idea for us to work together. If you say otherwise, I will deny it. Agreed?”
“Yeah sure. I can agree to that. So, partners?” Golden said stretching out her hand for a handshake.
“Partners.” Linda said shaking Golden's hand.
Golden and Linda went to join their group members. The competition was set in three categories: Medical Rapid Fire, Brains Beyond Scrubs, and Think Like a Doctor.
The first round began and Golden was selected to represent their group. Since she was the top of the class, they decided she would do well in the Medical Rapid Fire round.
The moderator threw the first question: “Which electrolyte imbalance is most likely to cause peaked T-waves on an ECG?”
All participants reached for their buzzer but Golden was the fastest.
Moderator: “Team Orange. You hit the buzzer first. Can you give us the answer please?”
Golden: “The answer is Hyperkalemia”
Moderator: “that's correct.”
By the end of the first round, Golden's team was leading with Alex's team coming in second place.
Fab's team came in third place and Team Green which was the last group unfortunately didn't make it to the next round.
For the next round, Golden suggested that Linda take the lead. It was more of a general trivia and Golden knew that Linda was a wizard in general trivia.
They had often competed against each other in the past and most times she won.
Moderator: “This category is called the Brains Beyond Scrubs. Teams, send your representatives.”
“Okay Linda, you've got this. We are leading but Team Blue is hot on our tail. Knock them dead.” Golden said.
“Of course I will. General trivia is my forte.” Linda said flipping her hair as she strut to the front.
Allan stepped forward to represent his team, while Lily another classmate represented team Blue.
Moderator: “Here's the first question: Which U.S. Supreme Court case established a woman’s right to privacy in medical decisions?”
Moderator: “Team Violet, you were the fastest.”
Allan: “Roe vs Wade.”
Moderator: “That's correct.” Next question: “Florida’s Everglades is the only place in the world where which two apex predators coexist?”
Moderator: “Team Orange?”
Linda: “Alligators and crocodiles.”
Moderator: “That is correct.”
Moderator: “Team Orange, Team Violet, you are tied. I will ask one more question and the team that gets it, wins this round.
Here's the question: “What does the Latin phrase primum non nocere mean?”
Moderator: “Team Orange?”
Linda: “First, do no harm.”
Moderator: “That is correct! Team Orange wins this round. Unfortunately, Team Blue you would not be proceeding to the next round.
We would take a 5 minutes bathroom break and once we are back, we would proceed to the final round.”
