Chapter 92 In her element
Chapter 92: In Her Element
The week quickly flew by and it was soon the Medical Students' Week. It was packed full with activities and for the first time, Golden enjoyed herself.
The students went to the shelters to volunteer and provide free medical services as part of the activities.
They were supervised and worked well with the doctors around who came to volunteer.
Allan watched Golden hold a little girl as she received a vaccination and then coo at her to stop her from crying from the pain of the injection.
Even Linda who was normally cruel seemed to show her compassionate side and this left Alex and her crew dumbfounded.
Alex watched Linda speak to an elderly man gently and patiently as she explained what the doctor on call was trying to say.
“Close your mouth Alex or a bug will fly in.” Fab said as he helped her close it.
“I didn't know she could be human. This is the first time I've seen Linda speak to someone nicely.
I hate to say this, but seeing her like this makes me feel she would make an amazing doctor.” Alex said.
Just then, Golden who was still rocking the little girl mistakenly bumped into Linda.
“Watch it Fatty. Are you blind or something?” she said in a vile tone.
“Nope! I take it back. A leopard can't change it's spot. That's definitely Cruella over there.” Alex shook her head.
Fab laughed at Alex's quick switch. “Well I guess she is only mean to our girl. I still think she would make a fine doctor though.” He said.
“Hey whose side are you on? Think carefully before you answer”, Alex said her hands on her hips fully facing Fab.
“Of course I'm on your side. Do I even need to think about it? I'm just stating a fact.
Linda just feels threatened by Golden. Before you arrived OCU, she had always been the alpha female and managed to bully Golden time and time again and she never fought back.
Then you showed up and didn't become friends with her but chose to side with her arch nemesis who now magically stands up for herself.
So of course she would also be hostile.” Fab said completing his analysis.
“When you put it like that, I can't argue.” Alex said as she finished sorting out the drugs in her case.
Fab assisted her and together they carried the case of drugs back to the van.
Soon it was time for a break and everyone lined up to get something to eat.
Golden was tired and her hands ached. She had carried about four kids.
When they noticed she was good with kids and knew how to pacify them, she was asked called upon to help with them.
Alex had asked her to find somewhere to sit while she helped with the food.
Allan, Linda, and Fab had been put in charge of sharing the meals. It felt like a weird combination but there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Golden was massaging her arm and wasn't paying attention to where she was going.
She bumped into something hard and almost fell, but was saved by a firm hand.
“Are you okay?” A deep voice said as he tried to steady Golden.
“I'm fine thank you. So sorry I wasn't paying attention.” Golden apologized.
She looked up and saw a very handsome face staring right back at her.
He was tall, about 6 feet. His hair was black and he kept it short. He had clear brown eyes that was hidden behind his glasses.
“You are Golden right?” He asked as they walked towards a bench and sat down.
“How did you know my name?” Golden asked quite surprised.
“Well I heard one of your professors call your name. The girl every child took a liking to” he said with a smile.
“Oh!” Was all Golden could manage with a shy smile.
“By the way, my name is Dr. Alex, short for Alexander. I'm a pediatric doctor at the St. Theresa's Teaching Hospital.
You guys should be moving to the hospital in about two months for your clinicals right?” Dr. Alex asked.
“Yeah that's right. We are writing our pre-clinical finals by the end of the month.”
“Well I wish you the best of luck in your exams. Hopefully we would see each other in the hospital.
Since you are good with children, you should consider pediatrics medicine. We could use someone like you in the field.”
He stood up after that and left just as Alex got to the table.
“Who was that hunk you were talking to Gigi?” She asked as she set the tray down.
“Oh that was Dr. Alex. I bumped into him a few minutes ago.”
“Huh? Dr. Alex?” Alex said raising a brow.
“Yeah. His is short for Alexander. Wait a minute,” Golden paused as she realized something.
“You guys have the same name. Alexander; Alexandria. Wow! That's so cool.
He's a pediatric doctor at St. Theresa's Teaching Hospital, where we would be doing our clinicals.
He also said I should consider pediatrics”, Golden said as she ate her salad.
“I think you should. You are a natural with kids.” Alex said agreeing.
Just as they were talking, Fab and Allan approached and sat down.
Allan handed Golden a bottle of juice and water, while Fab handed same to Alex.
“So what are we talking about?” Fab asked as he popped a fry into his mouth.
“Gigi bumped into a handsome doctor named Alex. We were just talking about him.” Alex said grabbing some of the fries from Fab's plate.
“Is he more handsome than me?” Allan asked teasingly.
Before Golden could say anything, Alex responded. “Sorry dude, you don't even come close.”
That caused Golden and Fab to chuckle. They were used to Alex by now. And Allan just entered her good books.
Even Fab didn't escape her teasing, much more Allan.
Allan didn't seem fazed by Alex. He turned to Golden and said: “as long as I am the only guy in your heart, it doesn't matter how handsome this doctor is.”
That caused Golden to blush hard. “Don't worry, my heart only has space for one,” she said.
“Yuck!” Alex said rolling her eyes. “Please can you guys not flirt in front of us?”
