Chapter 85: Giving Love A Chance

Everyone was settled in the gaming room munching on snacks and playing games.
They decided to tag team and play against each other. Golden tagged with Fab, while Varney and Alex teamed up.
Fab had always thought that Alex was the real gamer until he tagged with Golden and realized that she could hold her own pretty well.
They won the first two rounds until Alex unleashed the monster in her beat them three times in a roll.
Varney did not go full on because it would be considered cheating since he personally designed the game.
Even though he ran a multi-billion-dollar franchise aside from his own company, he always stayed involved in the core development process of every game released.
Soon Golden and Varney were knocked out of the game and Alex was left to battle it out with Fab.
They played for a long time, showing their skills and expertise but none of them refused to give up.
They decided to call a truce when they realized that there was no winning.
It was 11 pm already and they were all still pumped up and not feeling sleepy.
They decided to see a movie and moved to the home cinema. It had a very large screen and very comfortable chairs.
Alex and Golden went to the kitchen to make some microwave popcorn and grab some water and drinks.
The house staff had retired for the night and Golden didn't see the need to disturb anyone.
She often liked to do things herself and except when necessary, she prefered not to be a bother.
“So what movie should we watch?” Golden asked Alex as she waited for the corn to start popping.
“Well there's this movie I've been meaning to see but I never got around to seeing it.
There was a lot of hype around the time it was released so I never watched it.
I think it's time to finally get it out of my system. I'm talking about Prison Break.
I think one of the characters is named Michael Scofield.”
Golden's mouth dropped open. She couldn't believe that Alex hadn't seen Prison Break.
That movie was a classic and she had binged watched every season. She was sad when it ended and occasionally watched it whenever she was bored.
“Close your mouth Gigi, it's not that serious” Alex said as she tossed a popcorn in her mouth.
They went back to the cinema and Golden told the guys that Alex hadn't seen Prison Break yet.
They were as surprised as she was and asked Alex how she has managed to miss such a great film.
Varney searched for the movie on Netflix and played it. Alex cuddled in his arms on the sofa and he covered her with a soft blanket.
Golden and Fab laid on the same sofa and shared one blanket. Although Fab also cuddled her, it was purely platonic with no romantic undertone.
Each couple held a bowl of popcorn and soon they were lost in the movie.
Alex really enjoyed the movie and her eyes widened at some point. She gasped, rolled her eyes, tighten her fists and went through various emotions throughout the movie.
By the end of season two, Golden and Fab had fallen asleep. Varney carefully picked up his sister and took her upstairs to her room.
While Fab woke up and also went to bed.
Varney got back downstairs, gathered Alex in his arms and accompanied her to see the rest of the movie.
Alex felt touched. Varney had just gotten back from a trip, yet he was staying up with her just so she wouldn't be alone.
She felt something shift inside her, suddenly realized that she was slowly beginning to fall in love with him.
It was 1pm in the afternoon and Golden, Varney, and Fab were in the pool playing ball.
The movie had finished by 4 am and Alex was still fast asleep. She had missed breakfast, but Varney had informed Florence to ensure that her food was kept in case she woke up.
Just as they were playing and laughing, they heard Alex approach.
“Look who decided to finally grace us with her presence?” Fab said turning to Alex. “Hey bestie, sleep well?”
“Like a baby!” she responded as she removed her robe and dove into the pool with a splash.
“How is it that I slept for 8 hours straight and you got up early V?”
“Well let's just say that I'm accustomed to it already. Sometimes I have meetings till the early hours of the morning and just rest for a few hours before heading off to the next one.”
They played pool volleyball for a while and got out to have some snacks.
Varney was working on his iPad, Alex was sitting legs crossed on her chair, and Golden was lying on her stomach reading a book, while Fab was smiling to his phone.
“I have decided to give Allan a chance.” Golden said casually dropping a bomb on them.
Varney froze mid-type. Alex's mouth opened in surprise and Fab's smile froze.
“You are what? Explain!” Varney said in a rather harsh tone. It was obvious he was trying hard to control himself.
This was the first time that Alex had ever heard Varney use such a tone with Golden.
She immediately went to his chair and sat behind him. Then she placed a hand on his back to calm him down.
She whispered under her breath; “calm down V. You are scaring Gigi.”
It had been ages since Varney had used such a tone on Golden. She flinched when he spoke.
Golden understood why Varney reacted the way he did. The last time she had a meltdown in Africa, he had told her that was the last time Allan was allowed to hurt her.
And here she was saying she had decided to give Allan a chance. Of course he would flare up.
She looked at Varney with an unsure smile, “I promise, this is the last time.
Africa was a misunderstanding V. He never asked me out before, but now he has.
I can't control what my heart wants” she continued in shaky voice. “I love him okay?”
Varney stood up, he was angry and didn't want to take it out on Golden so he walked away.
