Chapter 67 Get married in six months
Chapter 67: Get Married in Six Months
“I told him I would buy him lunch if he stops staring at me.
Or he could buy me lunch and stare at me as long as he wants to get it out of his system.” Rosalie said smiling as she remembered that day.
“She's a keeper. A man you like keeps staring at you, buy him lunch or make him buy you lunch.
Any way it goes you win. Nice move, Rose.” Nana Chen said smiling at Rosalie.
“Thanks mum.” Chen responded before Shirley could say anything and everyone at the table turned to look at him amused.
“What? My staring got her here didn't it?” Chen asked raising his hands.
Everyone shook their head and continued eating.
“How did he manage to ask you out and why did you agree to date him?” Alex asked mid chew.
“Oh he never got around to asking me out.”Rosalie said.
Dropping their forks at the same time and mirroring the exact same reaction Alex and Nana said dramatically
“CHENY!”
Every other person at the table bursted into laughter. The two were definitely cut from the same cloth.
Varney leaned and whispered into Alex's ear: “you seem to be enjoying this aren't you?”
Alex ignored him and asked: “So how is he your boyfriend. Dad did you lie to get out of Nana's matchmaking?” Alex asked suspiciously.
“Oh but we are indeed dating.” Rosalie continued.
After knowing each other for over a year, six months ago I asked him out.
I told him he either becomes my boyfriend or I bounce. I was tired of giving him signals he clearly wasn't understanding.
I wasn't going to let him keep me in the friend zone so instead I girlfriend zoned myself.” Rosalie said proudly.
Nana Chen clapped her hands dramatically when Rosalie was done talking.
“I knew I liked her the moment I saw her and I am a good judge of character,” Nana Chen said with a broad smile on her face.
“Way to go Professor Rosalie, ” Fab said raising a glass to her.
“Oh please it's Rosalie. You are practically family so call me Rosalie.” she said raising her glass to acknowledge Fab.
“You can't blame me for not asking you out. If anything, blame Alex.” Chen said.
“Me? How? I just met the lady Cheny” Alex said with a confused look.
“Well I didn't want you to think I was trying to replace your mother. She does look a little similar to her.” Chen said.
“And that's my fault how exactly? Agreed she has a slight resemblance to mum but she's nothing like mum.
Their personalities are completely opposite.
If you had told me sooner that you met someone, Rosalie wouldn't have had to crawl her way out of friend zone.” Alex said to her dad mockingly.
Turning to Rosalie. “I'm sorry you had to wait that long. We would have gotten him a girlfriend if you hadn't asked him out so thank you.” Alex said.
“It's fine. I totally understand where he's coming from and I'm glad I was bold enough for the both of us.” Rosalie said smiling
Nana Chen shook her head and mockingly looked at her son.
“Trying to blame your inability to pursue your woman on Alex.
You have six months to propose and marry her. This house has gone on without a Mistress long enough.” Nana Chen said sternly.
“Mum! That's too close?” Chen protested.
“You've already been dating for six months and known each other for two years.
How long do you want to take before you pop the question or are you going to wait for her to propose too?
Besides I need to see my grandkid.”
“But you already have Alex and more than a dozen extra” Chen said.
“Leave me out of this dad. Besides I'm way overdue for a brother or sister.” Alex said.
“Then it is settled. Welcome to the family Rosalie.” Nana Chen raised her glass of water to her.
“Chen don't make her wait, I don't think my grandchild can wait either.”
Nana Chen winked at Rosalie.
“How did you know?” She asked as she instinctively put her hand over her belly
“Chen did introduce me as Dr. Xinyi right? Plus I am a Chinese Doctor so I know a thing or two” Nana said smiling.
Everyone looked from Nana to Rosalie, to a shocked Chen before they started calling out congratulations.
“How far along are you?” Chen asked with a choked voice.
“8 weeks. I was going to tell you when I settled down.
I just found out last week and I couldn't tell you over the phone.
“Wow Nana you're good” Fab whispered to Nana Chen.
“I know she replied ” and he chuckled.
Chen stood up and left the dining room shocking everyone but his mother.
She knew the look in his eyes.
He came back later and went on one knee. Shocking everyone yet again.
He brought out a small ring box.
“Rosalie, this ring is a family heirloom that has been passed down to the daughter-in-law of this family.
Although someone had it before, she died and left me with a big void.
In two years I've known you, I've never felt so complete.
You've always taken the first step in our relationship, but not anymore. Henceforth I will not make you wait.
Please Rosalie, make me the happiest man alive. Say you will marry me.” Chen said smiling genuinely.
“When?” Rosalie asked with tears in her eyes.
“Tomorrow we can go to the court and register our marriage ” Chen said still waiting for her response.
“Errm guys, you do know the court is closed for the holidays right?” Fab said from the side.
“Yes I'll marry you Cheny” Rosalie said as she grabbed his face and kissed him.
Everyone stood and hugged Rosalie, while they shook Chen's hands, congratulating them.
While everyone was still basking in the euphoria of an upcoming wedding and a baby on the way,
Nana Chen turned to Varney and asked him:
“You've also known Alex for six months, when are you two getting married.?”
Alex immediately started choking. And Varney rubbed her back.
Fab who was about to sit missed the chair and fell to the ground.
Golden looked at Nana amused, then at Varney.
Chen looked at Varney with a questioning gaze.
Rosalie just stayed smiling.
While Nana Chen who had dropped the bombshell sat sipping her wine and waiting for his response.
