Chapter 68 A finished man
Chapter 68: A Finished Man
“NANA!” Alex shouted when she could finally catch her breath. “Don't you think we should at least let Dad and Rosalie enjoy their moment?”
“No we are good. You can have the spotlight now.” Chen said smirking.
“Stop deflecting Alex. I think I'm really going to enjoy this” Fab said finally sitting.
“You are enjoying this aren't you?” Alex asked giving Fab a death glare.
“As a matter of fact I am bestie.” Fab said smiling.
Varney ignored everyone. He hadn't removed his hand from Alex's back yet so he proceeded to rub her back gently.
He tried to calm her down and reassure her that everything would be fine.
Alex, feeling Varney's gentle rub suddenly felt calmness envelope her.
Varney had told her he would handle everything and she just needed to follow his lead.
Alex turned her attention towards Varney, waiting to see how he was going to handle this.
“Well Nana although I've known Alex for six months, we only started dating four months ago.
So technically, our relationship is still fresh?” Varney said casually.
“What now, do you want to wait two years before you make an honest person out of my grandbaby?
Look let me tell you, I met my husband and married him in two weeks.
You've known each other for six months. Chen was considering his late wife, what's your excuse?”
Nana Chen fired question after question.
Fab munched on his pie, a satisfied smile on his face. He was enjoying this way to much.
Golden looked at her brother with a pitiable smile. Facing Nana Chen was more difficult than facing any business investor.
She was however confident because she knew her brother was in love with Alex.
Varney grabbed Alex's hand on the table and she wondered what he wanted to do.
She had a questioning and confused look in her eyes.
She was going to kick Varney in the shin if he dared propose.
Varney easily reading her mind smiled and winked at her.
He looked into her eyes and said: “Nana I would marry Alex in a heartbeat…I'm that in love with her”
He turned to Nana and continued “but she's still in school. I want her to focus and finish well.
If I marry her now, I'm afraid I wouldn't hold back and get her pregnant.”
“And what's wrong with that? I get to see my greatgrandchild” Nana said already dreaming.
“Well Nana. I don't want anything to stop Alex from achieving her dreams. A baby at this point will be a distraction.
Besides, you are not going anywhere anytime soon, so waiting two years shouldn't be that bad.
I promise in two years we would get married and have a couple of kids” Varney said with his hand on his chest like he was making a vow.
“Ermm excuse me? Do I get a say in this matter? It's my life too.
And a couple of kids… really V?” Alex asked as she watched them decided her fate.
Ignoring Alex completely. Nana Chen looked at Varney and said: “You seem like a responsible man so I will follow what you say.
In two years, I expect a wedding and grandkids. Twins would be nice.”
Nana Chen decided to test Varney one last time so she asked: “What is it about Alex that makes you want to be with her?”
Varney looked at Nana Chen seriously and with a deep sense of sincerity he said:
“Alex has a tough exterior but is a softie on the inside.
She loves genuinely and is ready to go all out for those she care about.
She has a mad sense of humor and is a whole Vibe to be around. And meeting you today, I see where she gets it from.
You don't know this, but the first day I met her, I offered her a billion dollars”
“A billion what?” Rosalie asked shocked while Chen and Nana Chen opened their eyes shocked.
Varney smiled and continued like nothing happened.
“I've tried giving her money several times and the last time, she threatened to gut me.”
Fab nodded, knowing that was something Alex would say and probably do.
“I always thought I understood love, but Alex through her actions redefined love.
She showed me love in it purest form.
Now tell me Nana, wouldn't I be a fool to let go of such an amazing woman?
When she's ready, I am willing to give her my heart and my wealth because she deserves to be loved” Varney said looking into Alex's eyes.
For a few seconds, everywhere was quiet.
That was the most heartfelt confession Fab had ever heard.
If after this Alex still didn't get it, then Fab was ready to perform a brain surgery on her.
“Wow Alex, you really hit a jackpot. You found a billionaire who's crazy in love with you.” Rosalie said.
Nana Chen nodded her head in approval. She had lived long enough to know that every word Varney spoke he meant.
Everyone at the table had the same feeling. “Varney is crazy about Alex”
And the main protagonist? She had a bewildered look on her face the whole time.
Dinner finally ended and Nana Chen asked the men to do the dishes.
According to her, when the woman cooks the man should clean up.
They agreed and went to do the dishes.
“I've got to give it to you Varney, that was deep man.
I didn't know you had it in you.” Fab said as he dried the dishes and put on the plate rack.
They had assigned roles on how to do the dishes. Chen was washing, Varney rinsing, and Fab drying.
“I've always suspected that you liked Alex but dude with what I heard today, you are a finished man.” Fab said shaking his head.
“You know Varney, when I heard you were dating Alex, I knew they were lying.
I tried giving her an opportunity to get out of her lie but she's stubborn.
I was anticipating seeing how you guys play it off today seeing that my mother isn't easy to fool.
But I noticed the way you've been looking at Alex all night even when you think no one's watching.
Your subtle care like pouring her water, wine. Helping her with food,
Then your answer to Nana's last question.
That was your final test and you aced with flying colors.” Chen commented with approval.
“I just hope that block head of a daughter sees what we all see.”
“I'm willing to wait for as long as it takes” Varney said with a smile.
“Gosh! You're so finished. That smile burns.” Fab said shaking his head in pity.
