Chapter 49 Game masters at Dinner
Chapter 49: Game Masters at Dinner
The trio has decided to dine at Oceansview Restaurant. It was slowly begining to become their go-to restaurant when they didn't feel like having cafeteria food.
Alex and Golden had found out that Fab's family owned the restaurant, that was why it was easy for them to always have a reservation while others had to wait months to make a reservation.
Inside the restaurant, Golden felt a migraine coming on from Alex's constant stare.
“Alex just say what's on your mind. You've been staring at me since we left school ” Golden said tiredly.
“Who the hell are you and what have you done with my best friend?” Alex asked.
Golden smiled. She didn't even know how to begin answering the question.
Fab smiled as he returned the menu to the waiter after placing their orders.
“She's right Gigi, there's something different about you today.”
Alex turned to Fab and gave him an amused look. “You are useful after all.”
Then she turned back to Golden. “Even nerd over here agrees” she said pointing at Fab.
Fabulous wasn't in the least bit offended. He was happy to be useful.
Soon their order arrived and their table was enveloped with the aroma of roasted chicken, sizzling steak and vegetable salad.
They began eating and evaluating the events of the day.
“Linda is sure stupid. How could she photoshop that picture? What was she even thinking?” Alex said as she cut her chicken.
“She is anything but stupid” Golden said as took a sip of water before continuing.
“Sure it was a stupid move. But Linda is very calculating. She knew the picture was fake, we knew it, but the class didn't.
She expected me to try to explain the picture” Golden continued as she put a piece of steak in her mouth.
“But what she miscalculated was my actual response. I didn't play by the rules.
I literally punctured holes in her tight plans, if you know what I mean.
And you guys are the best team mates. You played right along so it was believable” Golden smiled as she swallowed the food in her mouth.
“Girl that was hard pass. You literally turned the game around” Alex said ever dramatic.
“The board was the same, the players the same, but you practically flipped the dice and changed the rules.
The way you ignored her at first was a sight to behold. Her expression was pure gold.”
Alex said with a smile as she held her knife, trying to mimic Linda's falterd smile.
“And that smile Golden! That was pure evil and genius at the same time.
I tell you, it lives rent free in my head.”
Fab couldn't help but chuckle at Alex. She was an amazing person to have around.
“It was easy baiting Linda” he began and the girls looked at him.
“It was like dangling a cheese in front of a mouse unaware of the trap behind it.” he said smiling.
“Wicked.
I like it” Alex said smiling at Fab while Golden shook her head.
“However, what I didn't anticipate was your reaction Gigi” he said looking at Golden.
“That was ingenious. It was easy to follow your script and play along. Girl, you earned my respect today”
Fab said with a salute.
“I know right!” Alex said with her hands in the air. Then she turns to Fab.
“I think I like this new you. Keep this up, and I wouldn't think of killing you.” She flashed him a smile.
“I know you secretly love me. I love you too Alex” Fab says smiling behind his glass of water.
“Just when I was begining to think he is cool, he goes and ruins everything ” Alex said rolling her eyes.
Golden watched the two of them banter and smiled. Thier love-hate relationship was cute.
“You know when I saw Allan waiting at the pavilion I was a bit worried.” Alex said to Golden.
“True that.” Fab concurred
“I have never been so blown away.” she continued.
“Like a true game master, girl you flipped the dice and changed the course of the game—again.
Your cold look was epic.
Your deciding to talk on your own terms—phenomenal
And your words: “My best friend and boyfriend are waiting for me...
Shall we baby...” oh Lord!”
Alex wiped fake tears from her eyes. Holding her chest in a dramatic way,
“I have never felt so much pride in my life.”
“You really lived up to your name Gigi. Every move, back-to-back was golden.” Fab said.
“I totally agree.” Alex said nodding her head.
“It is rare to see us agree and more than once too. I guess we have Linda to thank for it.” Fab said.
“I'll drink to that.” Alex said pouring herself a glass of wine and drinking it.
“Is this one of your mum's wine?” she asked as she twirled the wine in her glass, sniffed it before tasting.
“Yeah it is. The way you drink wine tells me you have experience with wine.” Fab said.
“Well I've been to a couple of vineyards you know. My grandfather's family are into wine production.
Although our wine differs from the ones your mum produces, I know good wine when I sniff one and taste one.” Alex said with light in her eyes.
“Explains why my mum loved you the moment she met you. Kin recognizes kin” Fab said referring to both women's history in wine production.
“Yeah your mum was pretty cool, but that was before she tried playing matchmaker.” Alex said as she enjoyed her wine.
“How many layers are there to you Alex Chen?
There's the doctor,
There's the millionaire,
There's the gamer,
There's the fierce protector,
And now the wine expert.
You are just like a bulb of onions, every layer you peel reveals a different you.” Fab said trying to figure out Alex.
“Well I kind of like your description. Stick around and who knows, you might see more versions of me”
“Oh I certainly will. You are more interesting than any soap opera on TV.
Soon the waiter brought the bill. Alex turned to Fab and said:
“Boyfriend be a darling and get the bill will you.”
“Sure thing. I will never let my girlfriend pick up the bill.” Fab said as he swiped his card.
They left the restaurant and the girls dropped Fab off at the Lawrence Estate before heading home...
