Chapter 48 Shattered certainties
Chapter 48: Shattered Certainties
Allan couldn't explain what he was feeling. Just like everyone else, he was tired and drained from the Calculus lecture.
Although he was quite good with numbers, if he were to choose, he would rather sketch than crunch numbers.
He had his eyes closed, and his head resting on his seat when he heard Linda's voice.
He subconsciously rolled his eyes in his head and was wondering what she was up to.
Then he heard her say “Fatty Nixon finally found herself a boyfriend.”
That immediately caught his attention. He had known of the existing beef between the both of them.
In the past, Linda always got to Golden. But since Alex, Golden had learned to stand up for herself.
He looked at Golden, expecting a reaction. He had expected her to put Linda in her place but instead she said nothing.
Golden treating Linda like air made him feel a certain type of way.
It felt like a silent admittance.
Then came the pictures.
His blood ran cold instantly. His hand shook as he looked at the pictures.
Golden's smile as she curtseyed. Her look as she shared a kiss with Fabulous.
Then his blood began to boil. He felt his blood pressure go up.
He looked at Golden again and saw her give Linda a sarcastic smile.
He was sitted behind so she couldn't see his reaction but that smile burned him.
Then came Fab's laughter and “idiot remark”. He acted like it was nothing and what Linda said was true.
He looked to Alex, and her look further pushed the narrative. Like Linda was only stating a known fact.
But known to whom?
And how about Golden?
She didn't seem to care.
He didn't know when he banged the table and stood up to leave the class.
With his hoodie hiding his intense gaze, he noticed Golden didn't even have a reaction when he stormed out of the class.
It was as if she didn't even care.
Before, she would have had a reaction when he left. She would have at least shown disappoint like in the past.
But now, he didn't even exist in her eyes and it somehow hurt.
Allan left the class but he didn't go far. He stood by a corner pretty much invisible and observed what was going on in the class.
He didn't understand why he didn't just leave. It was as if he couldn't bring himself to leave.
He heard Fabulous call Golden babes and saw her smile sweetly and her smile burned him.
He watched the three of them leave the classroom happily oblivious of his presence.
Allan thought he would leave after they left, but he somehow remained rooted on the same spot.
He heard his classmates discuss Golden and Fabulous.
He knew firsthand that Golden was wealthy. But she wasn't someone to flaunt her wealth.
But seeing her go all out for Fabulous birthday made him feel a certain type of way.
Once upon a time, she had dressed up to meet him at the park.
And even though she wasn't as dolled up, he knew she had made an effort to keep it simple, yet classy.
And how had he responded when Tavia asked if they were dating?...
Now she had pulled up all the stops for Fabulous.
That was his Golden. He had her first.
But now she seemed to belong to someone else. She was a perfect match for billionaire Fabulous.
They called them “The Billionaire Power Couple”.
Once upon a time, Golden had looked at him like he was the only one that mattered in her world.
Once upon a time he had seen the look of longing in her eyes that he easily dismissed.
He had felt that they were just going through a phase and that in time they would sort everything out.
He wasn't so sure anymore. He felt he was loosing her.
Allan didn't know why, but the idea of Golden with someone else didn't sit well with him and he needed to do something about it ASAP.
Allan left when he had heard enough. He took another route and went to wait by the pavilion.
He knew that Golden would pass by the pavilion before getting to where she normally parked her car.
He had thought of waiting by her car, but decided waiting by the pavilion would give him more time to talk to her.
Allan waited at the pavilion for a while and began wondering if Golden would show up.
He had seen her car and knew that she was still on campus.
Then he saw her coming from the direction of the Library.
The wind was blowing and she tried to control her hair that was flying close to her eyes.
She looked angelic and Allan was lost in the moment.
He saw her laughing to a private joke and he felt a warm current in his chest.
He saw Golden pause in her strides as she noticed him.
She had a look of momentary surprise and expected him to ignore her as usual. But not this time.
Allan stepped in front of her. He gently grabbed her right hand.
“Golden can we talk?” gently, almost pleadingly.
Alex and Fab froze. Brows raised. Allan didn't care. He only had Golden in his eyes.
Golden looked at Allan hands shocked. Then she veiled her expression and was unreadable.
She gently detached her arm from Allan grip.
“No Allan. We can't talk. You do not get to decide when it's appropriate to talk to me in public.
Behave like you've always done in the past…ignore me.” Her voice was stern. A bit cold even.
Then she continued.
“My bestie and boyfriend are waiting for me. We have somewhere to be. Maybe another time?”
She then gently moved and grabbed Fab's hands “Shall we baby?” she asked with a sweet smile.
Allan felt a certain emptiness when Golden detached her hand from his.
When she smiled sweetly and held on Fab's hand, the temperature dropped by a hundred degrees.
Her words: “Shall we baby?” was a hard punch in the guts.
Allan watched them walk away and suddenly he felt like he was struggling to breathe.
As they walked away, Fab gave him mocking smile.
Alex gave him a death glare.
But Golden's smile at Fab was what broke him.
Had he truly lost her? Was the million dollar question...
When the trio got into their car and drove off, Allan slowly turned and went in the opposite direction.
Linda who had watched the whole drama suddenly appeared with a calculating smile. She entered her car too and zoomed off.
