Chapter 112 Trust at full speed
Chapter 112: Trust at Full Speed
“Xander, I hope you haven't been waiting long?” Golden said as she got into the car and buckled up.
“Not at all. I got here 5 minutes ago. Besides, it gave me some time to admire the ambiance.
By the way your house is really beautiful. I can only imagine what the inside looks like.”
“Thank you, we try. Nice car. I was thinking of buying one but I've not had time to go check it out.” Golden said admiring the interior of the car.
“It seems to me like you like cars. I was quite impressed by the cars I saw in the garage.”
“More like love cars. What you saw in the garage are our everyday cars, wait till you see our underground garage”. Golden lit up as she talked about cars.
“If I am to get one of these, I would probably get one in a cold metallic blue color.
Speaking of blue, I don't think I have any blue car! Hmm!”
The rest of the drive was done in a comfortable silence, each to his own thoughts.
Golden was wondering if Xander would let her go on a test drive with his car.
Meanwhile Xander was amazed at discovering another side of Golden. The girl who had a thing for fast cars.
Soon they arrived at a 24 hours coffee shop downtown. Xander figured that Golden wasn't one of those heiress that only dined at fancy restaurants and five star hotels.
They settled into their booth and the waiter came to take their order.
“Hello I'm Sam, I'm here to take your order. What would you like please?” He said to Golden with a smile.
“Errm I think I will go for an Iced Mochaccino and a Cinnamon roll. Thank you.” Golden said handing over the menu to the waiter.
“Dr. Alex, would you be having your usual?”
“Yes please, is Fiona's famous cookies still available? I would have that if it's available.”
“Sure, it is. She always reserves some for you doc. I will be back in a few minutes with your orders.”
“I'm usually not nosy but I've been dying to ask, how did you get my number Xander? Hope you don't mind me calling you that? ”
“No Xander is fine. It's my name after all. I was hoping you wouldn't ask about the number. It's kinda embarrassing.”
“Try me!” Golden said now interested.
“Well I called Rosa up and asked for your number. She didn't have it and asked Chen who ended up calling Alex to send your number.” Xander said a little embarrassed.
“Why did you go through all that trouble, you could have just asked for my number at the wedding and I would have given it to you?” Golden asked not getting why Xander had to stress himself out.
“Well I guess it didn't occur to me then. It was after you had left that I realized I needed your number.
Anyways what do you do for fun?”
“Nothing serious. I love reading novels, most especially mystery and detective novels. If I'm not reading, then I'm going on night drives.”
“There was a time my brother normally took me car racing. You should see me behind the wheels, I amaze myself even.”
Just as they were talking, Xander received a call. He excused himself to take the call.
He came back after a short while with an apologetic expression.
“I'm sorry there's an emergency at the hospital and I have to go.
Do you think you can drop me at the hospital first and then head home with the car?
You can bring it over to Chinatown tomorrow for Nana's dinner.” Xander felt sorry that they had to cut their outing short, but the emergency couldn't wait.
“Sure! How long do we have to get to the hospital?” Golden asked already getting to her feet. Relaxed Xander had been replaced with Dr. Xander.
“I'm supposed to make it in 30 minutes, but the hospital is on the other side of town and it would take us at least 45 minutes to get there.”
“If you trust me then I will get you there in 20 minutes tops.” Golden said already going towards the door of the cafe.
“Pass me the key doc!” Golden said as they approached the car. She tied up her hair and used the remote control to unlock the car.
“Now let's see what you can do.” Golden said to the car as she got behind the wheel.
She adjusted the rearview mirror and fastened her seat belt. The car used a press button to start the engine.
She looked at Xander who had strapped in, checked her nap for the fastest route and started the car.
Xander watched as Golden flew like a ghost. She had become one with the car and she maneuvered it like an expert racer.
He looked at the route she had keyed it and noticed she decided to take the highway that would have less traffic as against the inner-city road.
She was careful not to over speed but planned every route carefully to make sure she got a good speed limit that would get her to her destination on time.
She had said she would get him to the hospital in 20 minutes, but she made it 12 minutes.
Xander didn't have time to chat with her. All through the drive, he was on call with the attending nurse, giving her instructions.
The moment they got to the hospital entrance, she was already waiting to fill him in.
He turned to Golden, wanting to say something but she insisted that he went.
“Go save a life doc, and tell me about it later.” She said with a smile and watched him hurry into the hospital with the nurse.
Just as Golden pulled out of the hospital, her phone rang. It was a call from Allan.
She hesitated. She didn't know whether or not she was ready for his call.
What did he want to say? What would he say that would justify what he did? Even if people weren't aware of their relationship, he had still cheated.
Would he man up or would he try to manipulate his way out of it again?
Golden thought for a while and decided to pick his call seeing that he was persistent with the call.
She reduced her speed and put in her AirPods. Hello Allan...
