Chapter 607 Unexpected Guest
Chapter 607 Unexpected Guest
Curtis trailed behind Emily, his eyes filled with concern as he watched her weary figure.
He knew she'd had a rough day and hoped she could shake it off soon. They walked in silence toward the airport exit, ready to grab a ride to the office.
Meanwhile, Lisa stood there, a frown on her face, watching Emily leave. There was a spark of curiosity in her eyes.
At the Watson Manor.
"Mr. Watson, hi! I'm Lisa, Emily's childhood friend." Lisa's voice was bright and cheerful, like the tinkling of silver bells in the living room.
She wore a perfectly tailored light blue dress that highlighted her elegant figure, her long, shiny hair flowing over her shoulders like a waterfall.
She handed over a carefully wrapped gift, her eyes full of sincerity and anticipation, fixed on Joe as he slowly walked out from the inner hall.
"Please, have a seat." Joe's voice, weathered by time, had a hint of age but was unmistakably kind.
As he got older, he became more peaceful and increasingly friendly towards the younger generation.
Lisa's charming appearance, along with the special gift she brought, instantly won Joe over.
The gift was a photo album from Emily's school days.
Over the years, Joe had spent more and more time with Emily, and his feelings of guilt towards her grew stronger.
He often regretted his stubbornness and prejudice in his youth, blaming innocent Emily for Linda's issues, leading to over a decade of estrangement.
Even when Emily shielded Ethan from a sudden car accident, he coldly criticized her, saying she deserved it.
Now, whenever he recalled these past events, Joe's heart felt like it was being struck by a heavy hammer, waves of pain washing over him.
So, when he heard that Lisa was Emily's childhood friend, he didn't hesitate to show his greatest kindness.
Sitting nearby, Jett had been casually flipping through a magazine. Hearing Lisa's words, he raised an eyebrow, his sharp gaze directed at her.
He thought to himself, 'Lisa truly lives up to her reputation as a lady from a prestigious family; her ability to handle people on a first meeting is indeed impressive.'
Joe eagerly opened the photo album, carefully flipping through the pages while chatting enthusiastically with Lisa about Emily's childhood stories. The two were engrossed in conversation, the atmosphere lively.
Jett shook his head helplessly, unable to get a word in edgewise. He decided to get up and go upstairs to find Craig and Tina to hang out.
Upstairs, Linda was sitting at her vanity, brushing her hair.
Hearing that Emily's childhood friend was visiting, a look of surprise flashed in Linda's eyes. She quickly chose a light pink dress embroidered with delicate orchids, which complemented her graceful elegance. She hurried to Jett's side, gently pulling his arm, and they quickly went downstairs.
"And who might this be?" Linda asked, her voice curious.
Lisa's heart skipped a beat as she looked at Linda coming down the stairs.
The beautiful woman before her looked so much like Emily, it was uncanny.
She pondered, 'Isn't Emily adopted by the Watson family? Could it be that Joe's biological daughter is in poor health and unable to take on the family business, so he adopts Emily, who looks strikingly similar to his daughter, and grooms her to be the successor? Emily's luck is truly enviable.'
Lisa marveled inwardly; she had never seen two strangers look so alike.
"Ms. Watson, you must be Emily's adoptive mother! You look so young and have such an outstanding presence. If you and Emily were to go out together, people who didn't know would surely think you were sisters!" Lisa's face was adorned with a sweet smile, her compliments flowing effortlessly.
'Ridiculous!' Jett thought to himself.
Though Linda took great care of herself and looked radiant, Emily's natural beauty made her appear younger than her actual age, often mistaken for being in her early twenties.
Linda, on the other hand, had silver strands creeping into her hair, making it clear she wasn't in her twenties.
Lisa was clearly exaggerating.
Yet, despite this, Joe and Linda were delighted by her flattery, their faces beaming with smiles.
Jett couldn't help but feel deeply suspicious. He had known Emily for four or five years, and they had been through many things together, understanding each other quite well.
But he had never heard Emily mention having such a close childhood friend.
He felt more and more uneasy, and instinctively took out his phone to send a message to Emily.
Jett pretended to cough a couple of times, stood up, and casually walked over to Lisa and Joe.
He asked, "Ms. Moore, may I ask what brings you to the Watson Manor today? Emily is still away on a business trip, so if you need to see her, I suggest you come back tomorrow."
"Oh, no, that's not necessary. I was just passing by and thought I hadn't visited Mr. Watson yet, so I stopped by to check in on everyone." Lisa said carefully.
His gaze lingered on Lisa, finally settling on the pile of gifts on the floor, and he scoffed, "Just passing by?"
His tone was filled with doubt and disdain, as if telling Lisa he didn't believe her story at all.
Lisa's smile froze instantly, her face turning red and pale in quick succession.
Her heart began to panic, and she subconsciously tightened her grip on her purse, her knuckles turning pale from the pressure.
She stood up, her voice trembling slightly, "I hope I'm not disturbing you. If you have things to do, I can leave."
Her eyes darted between Jett and Joe, searching for a sign of hope to ease the tension.
Joe glared at Jett, his eyes full of reproach.
He patted Lisa's hand, comforting her, "Don't mind him. He's been preoccupied with Emily lately, and can't stand anyone getting close to her. He's so jealous now, even of the girls around Emily."
Joe's tone was like a kind elder mediating a small dispute among the younger generation, full of care and understanding.
"Mr. Watson, what are you saying? That's not the case at all," Jett protested, his voice tinged with frustration.
