Chapter 606 Helping

Chapter 606 Helping

Hearing Emily's words, Lisa's hand froze awkwardly in mid-air. She quickly brushed her hair back and forced a smile. "Oh, got it. I won't bother you then. I'll just head back to my seat."

A flicker of disappointment and frustration crossed Lisa's face, but she had no choice but to turn and return to her seat.

Back in her seat, Lisa struggled to adjust to the shift in her relationship with Emily.

It wasn't long ago that Emily was just a minor character trailing behind Ethan, with a modest, even shabby, family background. Her only notable asset was her academic performance.

As for looks, Lisa never thought Emily was prettier than her.

But today, Emily was different from the drab, ugly duckling Lisa remembered. Emily was now high and mighty, exuding confidence.

It was a terrible feeling.

Lisa gripped her purse tightly, squeezing the handle until it deformed.

She had been so eager and enthusiastic today for a reason.

Last week, the Moore Group had planned to invest in a large plot of land they had won at auction. However, their rival, the Lawson Group, blocked their progress by stalling the necessary permits.

Lisa's brother had no choice but to mortgage the Moore Group to secure some funds from the bank. But the permit issue remained unresolved, leaving her brother sleepless with worry.

Even though Lisa was now married to Hubert, she couldn't stand by and watch the Moore Group fall into crisis. Without her family's support, she couldn't imagine how she would continue her life with Hubert.

After all, her marriage to Hubert had been partly due to the Moore Group's influence.

She was desperate to mend her relationship with Emily.

Everyone knew that the Lawson Group's heir was trying to curry favor with Emily.

Indeed, if she could get in good with the Watson Group, the Moore Group might have a chance to turn things around.

Sitting in her seat, Lisa grew increasingly anxious. She kept glancing in Emily's direction, her eyes filled with hope and worry.

She was determined to talk to Emily once she finished her work and persuade her to help the Moore Group.

Meanwhile, Emily appeared focused on her work, but her mind was in turmoil because of Vincent's words.

She knew her engagement to Jett was arranged by their families for business reasons, but she couldn't let go of her feelings for Vincent.

She didn't know how to face Vincent or handle this complicated situation.

The plane flew smoothly through the clouds, but the atmosphere in the cabin was tense.

Curtis, sitting in the back, kept a close eye on Emily. He knew she needed peace, so he remained silent.

Lisa, on the other hand, was restless, waiting for the moment Emily finished her work.

Time seemed to crawl by, each minute feeling like an eternity to Lisa.

Finally, she saw Emily close her laptop, signaling that she was done.

Lisa's heart leaped with joy. She immediately got up and walked over to Emily.

"Emily, you're finally done." Lisa's face was all smiles as she approached Emily.

Emily looked up, a hint of helplessness in her eyes, but she still smiled politely. "Yeah, just finished."

"Emily, I need to talk to you about something." Lisa didn't wait for Emily's response and continued, "You know the Moore Group has been having some trouble lately. The Lawson Group is blocking our permits, and we're struggling with cash flow. Can you help us out, for old times' sake?"

Lisa's eyes were full of hope, wishing Emily would agree to her request.

Emily frowned slightly, surprised by Lisa's directness. She thought for a moment and said, "Lisa, business matters are complicated. It's not something I can just fix. Besides, my relationship with the Lawson Group is purely professional. I don't have as much influence as you think."

Emily's response was tactful but clear.

"Emily, please help us." Lisa pleaded, "You're an important figure in the Watson Group now. If you say something, the Lawson Group will listen."

There was a hint of desperation in Lisa's voice. She was out of options.

"Lisa, I really can't help." Emily said with some frustration, "I can't interfere in business competition because of personal relationships. It wouldn't be fair to other companies."

Emily's stance was firm. She didn't want to break business rules for Lisa's sake.

Seeing Emily's resolve, Lisa felt a wave of disappointment but refused to give up. "Emily, please, just this once. If the Moore Group goes under, I don't know what I'll do."

Desperation filled Lisa's eyes as she clung to Emily's arm, hoping to change her mind.

Emily gently pulled her arm free. "Lisa, calm down. I understand how you feel, but this is beyond my control. Your brother should look for other solutions. There might still be a way."

Emily tried to comfort Lisa, but she knew her words might not help much.

Lisa's disappointment turned to anger. She glared at Emily, her eyes filled with resentment. "Emily, don't think you're so great just because of the Watson Group. There's nothing to be proud of."

Lisa's loud voice drew the attention of nearby passengers.

Emily remained calm. "Lisa, I hope you can be rational. It's not that I don't want to help, but this is really out of my hands."

Emily's voice was steady, carrying an undeniable authority.

Lisa huffed and returned to her seat, trembling with anger. She couldn't believe Emily was so heartless, refusing to help her.

She silently vowed to make Emily pay.

The plane finally landed at their destination. Emily and Curtis disembarked. Emily took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.

The day's events had left her exhausted. She just wanted to get back to work and forget her troubles for a while.
