Chapter 608 Photo
Jett quickly tried to explain himself, his face turning beet red, spreading from his cheeks to his ears, like a kid caught in a lie.
Joe shot Jett a stern look, his tone growing harsher. "Enough. If you've got nothing better to do, go upstairs and help Craig and Tina with their homework."
Jett let out a long, exasperated sigh, filled with resignation.
He slowly stood up and trudged upstairs, each step feeling heavier than the last.
His mind was racing, trying to figure out what Lisa's true intentions were. Her sudden appearance was just too suspicious.
'No, her last name is Moore. Could she be from the Moore Group? Is she after that piece of land?' Jett couldn't help but scoff internally.
It seemed like she was trying to go through Emily, whispering sweet nothings to the Lawson Group.
But did the Moore Group really think they could compete with the Lawson Group for that land?
Jett thought to himself, unless Emily personally asked him for a favor, he wouldn't even consider Joe's request.
After all, Rhys would never back down when it came to business.
Lisa noticed Jett had gone silent and, seeing Joe take her side, felt a surge of satisfaction.
Her smile brightened instantly as she scooted closer to Joe, saying, "Mr. Watson, you're getting on in years now. Is Emily handling all the affairs of the Watson Group?"
Her eyes sparkled with curiosity and a hint of probing, as if trying to glean useful information from Joe's response.
At the mention of his granddaughter, Joe's face lit up with pride.
His eyes gleamed, like a collector showing off his most prized possession.
"Of course," He said. "Emily is more than capable. I have complete confidence in her managing the Watson Group."
His voice was filled with pride and trust, leaving no room for doubt about Emily's abilities.
"That's wonderful, Mr. Watson. Emily has had it tough. Losing her uncle at such a young age must have been hard." Lisa deliberately brought up Vincent, a sly glint flashing in her eyes.
Her lips curled into a slight, calculating smile, as if she were plotting something.
Joe's expression darkened at the mention of Vincent.
His eyes lost their sparkle, and he lowered his gaze, letting out a deep sigh, as if lost in memories of the past.
The old wounds and regrets surged back, filling his heart with pain and guilt.
Lisa seemed to realize she had overstepped, quickly standing up with a look of remorse. "I'm sorry, Mr. Watson. I didn't mean to bring up such a sad topic."
Her voice was filled with genuine apology, trying to make amends for her mistake.
"It's alright." Joe patted his old, slightly hunched back, worn down by the years. He slowly stood up, supporting himself on the couch, and took a few steps.
He said, "Since you're an old friend of Emily's, feel free to visit the Watson Manor anytime."
"Emily's always so wrapped up in her work, she's almost forgotten to live a little. She's getting married to Jett soon, so you should definitely come and celebrate with us."
His voice was filled with love and blessings for Emily, hoping she could enjoy life more amidst her busy schedule.
"Of course, Mr. Watson. I'm Emily's best friend. And Ms. Watson, I should have visited you all sooner. I saw online that your health wasn't great, but you look so spirited and healthy. You should get out more often."
"The weather is lovely outside. Ms. Watson, why don't we take a walk in the garden?" Lisa spoke while closely watching Joe's reaction.
Her eyes were sharp, like a fox, missing nothing.
Seeing Joe's kind but firm support for Emily, Lisa thought Linda might be a better target.
So, she linked arms with Linda and started towards the garden.
Her movements were natural and smooth, as if she had known Linda for years.
Jett frowned. He had just reached the second floor but quickly came back down, stopping Lisa. "No need. Ms. Watson has a set time for her afternoon walks."
Linda remembered her usual midday routine of resting with Tina and Craig.
She quickly waved Lisa off, saying, "Thank you, dear, but I won't go to the garden now. It's getting late, and I need to head upstairs."
Her voice was gentle and kind, making it hard to refuse.
Lisa, seeing Linda being easily persuaded by Jett, grew anxious.
She quickly pulled out her phone and said to Linda, "Ms. Watson, it's so rare to see you. How about we take a photo together? That way, when Emily asks, I can show her."
Her eyes were filled with hopeful anticipation, hoping Linda would agree.
Linda nodded. "Sure, how about I sit like this?"
She adjusted her posture slightly, a soft smile on her face.
Lisa hurriedly took out her phone and snapped a dozen photos, carefully choosing angles to show Linda at her best.
She then selected nine of the best shots and posted a collage on her social media.
In the caption, she tagged Emily, Hubert, Brian, and even Ethan, making sure everyone she knew saw the post.
Her fingers flew over the screen, her eyes gleaming with excitement, as if anticipating a storm.
At that moment, Emily had just landed.
The long flight had left her a bit tired, a hint of weariness in her eyes.
But she maintained her composed demeanor, standing tall and straight like an unyielding poplar tree.
Nick, following his usual routine, opened his tablet to check emails and Emily's social media.
Suddenly, his eyes widened in shock. He zoomed in on the photo to confirm it was Linda, then quickly handed the tablet to Emily, saying, "Ms. Watson, you need to see this..."
