Chapter 605 Not Familiar

Chapter 605 Not Familiar

Curtis didn't rush in when he realized what was happening. Instead, he nervously glanced down both ends of the hallway to see if anyone else had heard the noise.

He carefully observed his surroundings, not daring to let his guard down for even a second.

Hearing Emily's voice from inside the room, Curtis was certain there was someone else in there. Emily was always meticulous about her health and rarely skipped breakfast. Plus, Joe always checked in on her daily schedule, so there was no reason for her to miss breakfast.

Curtis stood at the door, his mind racing, feeling a mix of anxiety and confusion. Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder.

Curtis nearly jumped out of his skin. He spun around to find Nick standing behind him, having approached silently. Curtis frowned in irritation.

"What are you doing here?" Curtis's voice carried a hint of reproach.

Nick adjusted his glasses, looking innocent. "Well, our rooms are next to each other. I heard you leave and figured Ms. Watson must be up too."

"If I didn't come with you, would you go down first and then wait for me? That wouldn't be very assistant-like of me."

Curtis thought to himself, 'If you heard the sounds coming from the room, you'd be out of a job for sure.'

He grabbed Nick's arm and pulled him forward a few steps before saying, "Ms. Watson said we should go down for breakfast and wait for her there."

"Okay, but isn't Ms. Watson having breakfast? Is she feeling unwell? Should I bring her breakfast?" Nick glanced back at Emily's door, a hint of concern in his eyes.

"No need," Curtis replied a bit too quickly, his voice rising slightly as he tried to mask his inner turmoil.

Nick noticed the flicker of panic in Curtis's eyes and understood something was off.

Though he didn't know what Curtis was hiding, his years of experience told him something was definitely not right.

But he also knew his place as an assistant—don't ask questions you shouldn't. So, he shrugged nonchalantly. "Alright, let's go get some food then."

Curtis gave Nick a push, and Nick walked ahead. As they neared the end of the hallway, Curtis couldn't help but glance back. Sure enough, Emily's door opened, and a tall, muscular man in a dark suit stepped out.

That silhouette was too familiar!

Curtis's eyes widened, a mix of shock, confusion, and worry flooding his mind.

He sensed Nick might turn around, so he quickly grabbed Nick's shoulder and steered them both into the elevator.

Curtis was internally freaking out. 'How is this possible?'

He replayed the events of the past few months in his mind, feeling more and more uneasy.

Especially that night when Vincent and he were in the car accident. Vincent was injured but not severely—just a sharp object wound to the abdomen. He left the hospital after getting bandaged up.

But shortly after, news of Vincent's death was announced.

Sure, car accidents could cause concussions or brain hemorrhages, but Curtis knew Vincent's physical condition well. Vincent was a regular at the gym, had a healthy routine, and rarely got sick despite the stress of work.

If it weren't for the Watson family's somber demeanor and everyone believing Vincent was dead, Curtis would have been the first to doubt that Vincent died from such an accident.

So, seeing someone who looked so much like Vincent now, Curtis didn't think Vincent had come back to life. He suspected Vincent never died in the first place!

A whirlwind of thoughts raced through his mind, speculating about the Watson family's hidden secrets.

He didn't know what kind of game the Watson family was playing, but he knew it was beyond his reach.

With that realization, Curtis's brow furrowed, and he clenched his right hand into a fist, his nails digging into his palm to calm himself down.

He was sure he hadn't seen wrong today.

So, he had to protect Emily's secret. No one else could find out!

Curtis pulled himself together, adopting a serious, business-like demeanor. He took Emily's luggage, settled it, and discreetly handed her the laptop, opening the stock market page.

Emily remained silent for a long time after getting in the car. Those who knew her well understood that when Emily was very quiet, she either reviewed work documents and then relaxed by looking out the window if she was in a good mood, or buried herself in work to shut everything out if she was upset.

Like today, from the car ride to the airport and onto the plane, she kept her head down, focused on her work.

Emily had something on her mind, something that was clearly troubling her.

Curtis noticed and chose to remain silent, sitting in the back seat to ensure no one disturbed her concentration.

"Emily? What are you doing on this flight? Wow! I thought you always traveled on the Watson Group's private jet." A woman dressed like a socialite took off her sunglasses and reached out to touch Emily's shoulder.

Her sharp, intrusive voice shattered the cabin's quiet.

Emily frowned in annoyance. Curtis, sitting behind her, immediately stood up and blocked Lisa's path with a polite but firm gesture. "Hello, Ms. Moore. Ms. Watson has important work to handle right now and can't be disturbed."

Curtis wore a professional smile, but his eyes were resolute.

Lisa's enthusiasm was quickly doused by Emily's coldness and Curtis's professionalism.

"Emily? It's me, Lisa!" Lisa tried to sit next to Emily, her eyes pleading and eager to reconnect.

Emily pointed apologetically at her laptop. "My assistant is right. I have some urgent work to finish. If you can wait, I'll have my assistant invite you for a chat once I'm done."

Emily's voice was calm and polite, but devoid of warmth.
