Chapter 604 The Man in the Room
Chapter 604 The Man in the Room
When she went in, she was still clear-headed, but when she came out, she was barely breathing and fell into a deep sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Vincent held Emily tightly, watching her intently.
This was what he wanted to do every day, the most beautiful dream he had dreamt for twenty years.
He held Emily as she slept, wanting to do so for a lifetime.
He gently kissed her forehead before falling into a deep sleep himself.
When Emily woke up, she was surprised to find Vincent still there. She shook him awake in shock. "Why are you still here? This is Yaxport, and a lot of people know you. Plus, Curtis and Nick came with me this time. Aren't you afraid they'll see you? Besides, you can't be Vincent Watson right now. If people start saying I'm the homewrecker ruining the marriage of Apex Global Enterprises' princess, I..."
"What about you?" Vincent asked softly.
"It doesn't matter. You need to leave, Vincent. We agreed not to bring trouble to the Watson Group. You promised Grandpa, remember?" Emily was a bit annoyed. She felt uneasy about Vincent's carefree attitude, as if the person here wasn't Vincent Watson but the real "Vincent Phillips." She suddenly felt guilty, like she had slept with someone else's husband.
"Emily, what are you worried about? I've already taken care of Kunsa and Uriah. You don't need to be so scared."
"Are you still the Vincent I know? What do you mean by 'taken care of'? Is there no threat at all or just a tiny bit?"
"In my memory, you've always been a meticulous person," Emily said, grabbing a dress from the sofa and slowly zipping it up.
"Yes, Emily." Vincent held Emily tightly, as if trying to merge her into his body, his voice full of longing and reluctance. "I don't want you to marry Jett."
Vincent paused, seemingly trying to suppress his emotions, and emphasized again, "Emily, I've thought about it. I still can't accept you marrying Jett."
"There are many ways to work with Jett. You don't have to marry him, right?" Vincent's eyes showed a hint of urgency and helplessness, looking at Emily with deep affection and desire.
Emily sighed softly, her expression a bit helpless. She looked up at Vincent, her eyes filled with complex emotions. "Vincent, can we not discuss this?"
"Why not?" Vincent's gaze was intense, his hands unconsciously tightening. "I came all the way from Lumina to find you, hoping to convince you not to marry Jett."
"You know I can't accept any man being so close to you and having a legitimate status." His voice trembled slightly, as if afraid of hearing Emily's rejection.
Emily looked at Vincent, her eyes firm. She gently broke free from his embrace, took a step back, and said, "Vincent, my engagement to Jett is already set in stone."
She took a deep breath and continued, "Both Mr. Lawson and my grandpa have approved of this. Besides, it's a good thing for everyone. And I can't find anyone else willing to agree to a contract marriage."
She paused, trying to calm Vincent down, her tone softening a bit. "If you trust me, my marriage to Jett is just a formality. It doesn't mean anything."
"After all, even if you and Elizabeth get divorced, you'll still be Vincent Phillips, her ex-husband." Emily sighed softly, speaking slowly, "How can I be with someone who looks so much like my uncle?"
"So, having a legitimate status has always been an unsolvable problem for us. Isn't this way better?"
"Even though we don't have a title, we can be partners in public, and privately, you're the father of my child."
Vincent didn't expect Emily to be so resolute. It was as if the person who had curled up in his arms last night, calling him "honey," had put on a different mask.
His eyes showed a flash of pain and disappointment as he looked at Emily, as if trying to find a hint of hesitation in her eyes.
Seeing that Vincent didn't want to solve the current problem rationally, Emily lost the desire to communicate.
She turned and walked to the wardrobe, opened the door, and chose a professional outfit. After dressing, she went to the vanity, lightly applied some lipstick, and carefully tidied her hair to look more spirited.
Then she grabbed her bag and headed for the door.
Seeing this, Vincent quickly stepped forward, pulling her into his arms, his voice tinged with urgency and reluctance. "You're just going to leave like this?"
Emily was about to say something when she suddenly heard a knock on the door. She was startled, instinctively covering Vincent's mouth with her hand, her eyes showing a hint of tension. She calmly asked, "Who is it?"
Curtis's steady voice came from outside, "Ms. Watson, would you like to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant now, or should we head straight to the airport?"
Emily composed herself, took a deep breath to make her voice sound as calm as possible, and replied, "I'm not eating. You and Nick go ahead and eat something, then wait for me in the hotel lobby."
"Okay, Ms. Watson." Curtis had a habit of adjusting his attire before knocking on a door.
So when he stood outside Emily's room, he clearly heard a man's voice inside.
He was stunned, unable to believe his ears. Afraid he had misheard, he held his breath and listened carefully.
The voice was too familiar, reminding him of someone from the past.
But he thought, how could it be?
The voice inside didn't sound like Jett's.
And Jett had left the Watson Manor this morning, causing quite a stir. People thought his and Emily's marriage was progressing, and many envied him for being able to stay at the Watson Manor as the prospective grandson-in-law.
So, who was the man in the room?
The thought of Emily possibly having another man made Curtis break out in a cold sweat.
He knew Emily couldn't have another man. If this got out, Jett would be truly betrayed!
Their families' stocks would plummet.
This would not only affect the company's interests but could also trigger a series of business crises.
