Chapter 592 Strange
Chapter 592 Strange
"Erik, do I really have to marry Barbara??" Luca's face was all scrunched up, looking like a worried old man, his eyes showing a hint of helplessness and resignation.
He knew he didn't have much choice in this marriage. From the moment he met Barbara, got to know her, and fell in love, it seemed like he was destined to walk this thorny path.
Erik glanced at him, his eyes carrying a mix of brotherly authority and helplessness. "What else can you do? She's already got you wrapped around her finger. Do you think you can just switch to someone else now?"
"Look around. Who else among the women suitable for our Morgan family matches you? The Wheeler family doesn't have a daughter."
"The Lawson family's daughters are all from distant branches. Maybe you could try Emily?"
"She's like a high mountain flower. Forget it. If you can't get her, there's no way I could. If she had any interest in me, I wouldn't have ended up with Barbara." Luca muttered.
"You got it wrong. It's not that I can't get her; it's that I'm not interested, at least not in marrying her," Erik corrected.
Luca rolled his eyes. Deep down, he knew Erik had it tough, carrying the family's legacy and hopes. How could he dare to fall for just anyone?
In this world where family came first, family interests were paramount.
Compared to Erik, Luca was actually lucky. At least Barbara was his own choice, even if it seemed impulsive now. How could he have known back then that the Gray family would end up in such chaos?
Mentioning Barbara, Luca deflated like a balloon, slumping onto the couch. He turned to Rhys, who had been silent, with a look of grievance and confusion. "Grandpa, what's the point of having me drive Barbara around every day?"
Rhys, sitting on the couch, slowly lifted his head, his eyes showing a mix of disappointment and frustration. He sighed deeply. "Did your mom give all the intelligence to your brother when she had you? You're as dumb as a rock."
"Barbara needs someone by her side right now. It's called caring, understand?"
"Victoria's done for. What can she do with one eye? And who knows if Susan will ever wake up."
"The future heir of the Gray family can only be Barbara. You, with no particular skills, have a very capable wife. At least she'll ensure you're well taken care of for life. No, for several lifetimes."
Luca protested, "Grandpa, that's so unfair. You left the Morgan family to Erik, and I have to marry into the Gray family. Am I such a disgrace to you?"
Rhys felt a surge of anger, wanting to shout "Yes," but with others in the room, he held back his fury, snorted, and ignored his troublesome grandson.
Despite his dissatisfaction with Luca, Rhys still hoped Luca could find his footing in the family feud with the Grays and bring honor and benefits to the Morgan family.
Meanwhile, at the Inome Villa in Lumina, Elizabeth lay on a luxurious hospital bed, the room filled with the pungent smell of medicine, but it couldn't mask her deep resentment.
Her eyes flashed with a hint of malice and madness as she spoke to Allan, who was sitting by her bed. "Dad, didn't you promise to bring Emily back? What's taking so long?"
Allan, lounging on the couch, motioned with his fingers, and his assistant in a gray suit immediately handed over a file.
Allan took the file, stood up, and walked over to Elizabeth's side, forcing a loving yet stern smile as he patted her head. "Sweetheart, don't get worked up. Focus on getting better. Remember how you were always bothered by Vincent's ex-fiancée in Mosterwania? I've taken care of them for you."
"Really?" Elizabeth's eyes lit up, a spark of joy replacing the previous dullness.
"Of course. Anyone standing in my daughter's way will be kicked aside like a stone." Allan's tone carried an undeniable ruthlessness, his eyes showing a determination to achieve his goals at any cost.
In his world, his daughter's happiness and wishes were everything. To fulfill them, he would stop at nothing, even if it meant making enemies of the world.
"That's great, Dad. Now, get Emily here as soon as possible. I need her skills. Vincent said he'd take me on a beach vacation once I'm up and about. I need to have the surgery done before then."
"No matter what it takes, I want to give Vincent another child."
Elizabeth's eyes gleamed with a hint of madness, as if she were lost in a dream she couldn't escape.
Her love for Vincent had become twisted and obsessive. To have him, she was willing to do anything, even harm innocent people.
Allan noticed that when Elizabeth mentioned having a child, her expression didn't change. He realized she had selectively forgotten the events of their last vacation and hadn't even asked why Barry hadn't been around.
Allan felt a mix of relief at his daughter's "wisdom" and sorrow for her. 'Elizabeth is so outstanding. Why can't Vincent let go of the moral constraints of being siblings? Besides, they're not even real siblings.'
Allan sighed, silently vowing that whether it was speculation or truth, he would eliminate all women connected to Vincent from Mosterwania, ensuring his heart belonged entirely to Elizabeth.
In his heart, his daughter's happiness was his mission. To fulfill it, he would bear any burden, even the infamy of his actions.
At the Watson Manor, Joe sat in the spacious, bright living room. Moonlight streamed through the windows, only to be pushed back by the warm indoor lighting.
He took the coffee Emily handed him, sipping it slowly, savoring the rich aroma before setting the cup down. He looked at his exhausted granddaughter, his eyes filled with concern and affection.
He waved his hand, and Andrew quickly stepped forward, offering Emily a steaming cup of coffee.
Joe spoke slowly, "The recent car accidents involving the Gray family daughters are quite suspicious."
His voice was low and raspy, as if telling an ancient, mysterious tale, his eyes reflecting a deep worry and unease.
