Chapter 591 Concern

Chapter 591 Concern

Barbara glared at Wesley, who was putting on an overly polite and subservient act. Her anger flared even more, and she stood with her hands on her hips, fuming.

"Do I need you to come here and play the good guy?" She snapped. "If you need to stay in the hospital, then why are you here at the Gray Mansion? Shouldn't you be with your wife, taking care of her and showing off your so-called perfect husband image?"

Robert couldn't believe his ears. He stared at Barbara in disbelief and shouted, "Are you out of your mind? How can you talk to Wesley like that? He just brought me back because he was worried I'd have an accident driving in my emotional state."

Barbara wasn't backing down. "Don't you have an assistant? A secretary? Why did he have to drive you?"

"Enough! Wesley was concerned about me. Is that so wrong?" Robert's face turned red with anger, his voice becoming sharp.

Barbara scoffed. "I know what he's really thinking better than you do. Dad, you're completely blind!"

Robert squinted at Barbara, gritting his teeth. "I don't want to discuss this anymore. If you had any sense of duty as a daughter, you wouldn't be picking a fight with Wesley right now."

"Wesley has to take care of two young kids and look after Victoria. He's already overwhelmed and doesn't have the energy to deal with your nonsense."

"Wesley is educated, cultured, and well-mannered, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a temper. I'm warning you, I don't want you targeting him in this house anymore."

"Fine," Barbara clapped her hands and sneered. "You used to despise him for being a country bumpkin, and now you treat him like a treasure? Do you think sons are more reliable than daughters?"

"Look at Wesley, handsome and a professor at Lindwood City University! He's gentle with his wife, loving with his kids, and respectful to his elders."

"How can there be such a perfect man in this world? Dad, don't you think being too perfect is a flaw in itself?"

With that, Barbara lifted her skirt and slowly walked upstairs without looking back.

"That's it. I have nothing more to say. Thank you, Wesley, but I'm not hungry. You can keep the porridge for yourself. Grandpa, I'm sorry for arguing with Dad. I'll go upstairs and write a three-thousand-word self-reflection."

Robert coldly replied, "No need for your empty gestures."

Barbara nodded slightly. "That's great. If you don't need it, I won't waste my effort. I'm really tired and need to rest now. Goodnight, Dad, Grandpa, Wesley."

She turned and left without looking back, not even glancing at Luca, who had brought her back.

Luca stood there awkwardly, glancing at Ewan and then at Robert. He exchanged a helpless look with Wesley before quietly leaving.

Luca was never good at dealing with the complex family dramas and disputes. If it weren't for this, he might have joined the fierce battle for inheritance in the Morgan Family like Erik did years ago.

He chose to be a wanderer, traveling freely, because deep down, he longed for family harmony. He knew that in the family arena, someone had to step back for others to rise.

If everyone blindly rushed onto the narrow bridge, with limited space, someone would inevitably be pushed off and shattered.

The chaos and conflicts in the Gray Family stemmed from Robert's failure to treat his children fairly. Ewan's favoritism towards Barbara only intensified the internal strife.

Luca sighed deeply, dreading the thought of reporting the Gray Family's situation to his brother and grandfather.

At the Morgan Manor, the atmosphere was as heavy as the calm before a storm.

Luca slumped on the couch, his face clouded with worry, as if shrouded by an invisible gloom.

Erik, noticing his brother's distress, put down his newspaper and raised an eyebrow, a hint of teasing in his concern. "Why the long face? Did Robert give you a hard time?"

Luca forced a bitter smile, his voice tinged with helplessness and confusion. "No, but why am I still marrying into Barbara's family? Their place is a mess."

Erik's lips curled into a knowing smile, his eyes gleaming with insight. "Haven't you heard? Tough times create heroes."

Luca looked puzzled, scratching his head. "What are you talking about, Erik?"

"The Morgan Family theory," Erik replied seriously, a hint of pride in his eyes.

"You don't know, but Barbara just had a huge fight with her dad." Luca's face grew more troubled as he recalled the heated argument. "Do you think marrying a woman from the Gray Family means always being second best?"

Erik's expression turned serious. "It depends on who marries into the Gray Family."

"If it's Victoria's husband, then yes."

"After all, it takes generations of effort to reach the status of a wealthy family. Why should someone think they can join the elite just by studying for a few years?"

"That's not fair to the aristocracy, is it?"

Luca sighed deeply, feeling the weight of his impending marriage. He knew it wasn't just about two people but the intertwining of two families' interests and power struggles.

In this harsh world of the elite, love seemed insignificant compared to duty, interests, and family honor.

Erik continued, "Instead of worrying about others, focus on your fiancée."
