Chapter 593 Agreed
Chapter 593 Agreed
"Grandpa, you noticed too?" Emily lifted her head slightly, her eyes a mix of surprise and admiration. She knew her grandfather had weathered many storms and had a keen insight into these matters.
Joe nodded slightly and sighed again, a sigh that seemed to carry countless worries and troubles. "I just can't figure it out. If it's really what I think, I'm worried you might be in danger."
"Don't worry, Grandpa. Besides being at the Watson Manor, I've always had Mason and the others with me when I go out."
Her eyes revealed a hint of determination and confidence. Despite being at the center of this high-society turmoil, she wasn't consumed by fear. Instead, she tried to stay calm and rational, doing everything she could to protect herself and those around her.
"Nick mentioned that Justin didn't come back with you after you went to Lumina." Joe's eyes showed a trace of confusion and concern.
"Yeah, I called him. He said he needed to help Paul with some things." Emily understood the bond between Justin and Paul. Although she was a bit worried, she knew Justin had his own choices and decisions.
"Let him be. From now on, have Mason with you. He's skilled and doesn't talk much, and he won't act on his own." Joe had long wanted Emily to sever all ties with Vincent, including mutual acquaintances. In his mind, Vincent's current status and background were too complicated, and he feared his granddaughter would be drawn into deeper danger because of it.
Emily caught Joe's meaning and thought, 'Grandpa's been unhappy with Justin for a while.' But she didn't speak up for Justin. After all, Justin had been trained by Paul from the start. Helping his old master wasn't wrong.
In this world full of conflicting interests, everyone had their own stance and choices. She couldn't force others to change their decisions.
"What about Marcus?" Joe thought of the Gray Family's daughters and couldn't help but ask, his eyes showing a hint of concern and expectation.
Emily pinched her brow. "Marcus said Victoria is waiting for a cornea transplant. Susan's vital signs are stable, but there's no telling when she'll wake up."
The grandfather and granddaughter were silent for a moment. Emily seemed to be contemplating a difficult decision. Finally, she made up her mind and said, "Grandpa, I've decided to have a marriage agreement with Jett."
Joe was a bit surprised, his eyes widening slightly, showing a hint of surprise. "Marry Jett? Have you really thought it through? No more resistance?"
His voice carried a trace of doubt and concern, as if worried his granddaughter was making a hasty and irrational decision.
As if afraid Emily would change her mind, Joe continued, "Jett seems like a good kid, much more stable than Luca. Honestly, among your peers, I liked Percy the most. What a shame."
Every time Joe thought of Percy, he genuinely felt it was a pity for Emily. In his mind, Percy was the perfect model of a husband, with his looks, physique, personality, and interests. But his family didn't agree, and Joe didn't want Emily to marry Percy and then suffer from his parents' difficulties.
In his view, his granddaughter was excellent and didn't need to endure such hardship.
Emily quickly walked behind Joe, gently massaging his shoulders, her eyes showing a hint of obedience and understanding. "Jett's fine. He's the right age. Percy is determined to dedicate his life to scientific research. I don't want to be an obstacle to his success. And Luca is now Barbara's fiancé, so let's not mention him anymore."
Joe sighed, "It's my fault for insisting you establish your career before settling down. I didn't expect it to drag on for so many years."
In reality, Emily's delay in getting married in her thirties wasn't Joe's fault. At that time, Emily had just divorced Ethan, was pregnant, and was burdened with the deep-seated grudges of her adoptive mother and stepsister. She had no time for love.
Joe's words were a reminder to Emily not to deceive him again and to avoid any entanglements with Vincent.
After all, the Gray Family was a living example. Although there was no evidence pointing to the Inome Family, the incident was too suspicious. No one else had enough reason or motive to harm the Gray Family.
The key was that after causing such harm, they could still get away unscathed. Only Apex Global Enterprises had that kind of power.
Joe was genuinely afraid of the Inome Family's endless schemes. Financial magnates without a sense of nation or faith were the most terrifying.
Because, in their eyes, human lives were insignificant compared to their wealth and power.
Emily was about to chat with Joe a bit more when she saw Andrew standing nearby, frantically signaling. Seeing Emily stop talking, Andrew reminded, "Mr. Watson, it's getting late. You promised Ms. Linda Watson you'd take her to vaccinate the little white horse in the back mountain tomorrow morning."
"Alright. Now that you mention it, I'm feeling sleepy."
Joe responded, then turned to Emily. "Emily, one more thing. Whether your marriage with Jett is real or just an agreement, make sure the wedding is grand. I don't care what kind of deal you have with Vincent, but don't provoke the lunatics at Apex Global Enterprises. And make sure Elizabeth sees your wedding, got it?"
"Andrew, during this time, help Emily with her security and the people she interacts with."
"Understood." Andrew nodded and helped Joe back to his room.
Joe had been gone for less than ten minutes when Emily's phone rang. It was Jett.
She had just made her decision, and her soon-to-be fiancé was already calling.
"Hello, Emily. Have you really made up your mind?" Jett's voice carried a hint of anticipation and nervousness, as if awaiting a life-or-death verdict.
"What, you don't want to?" Emily teased, her tone light and playful, trying to ease the tension on the other end of the line.
"No, I'm thrilled. I can hardly sleep. Can I come to the Watson Manor to see you?" Jett's voice rose, barely able to contain his excitement, filled with hope and anticipation for the future.
"No, the kids are asleep." Emily refused, her eyes showing a hint of tenderness and care. She didn't want her matters to disturb the children's rest.
"Then how about I pick you up for work tomorrow morning?" Jett suggested, his tone full of expectation and eagerness, as if he couldn't wait to announce their relationship to the world.
