Chapter twelve
Myra's POV)
I was so anxious. The anxiety was uncontrollable for me. I felt like I was being pressurised, just like a polythene bag was tied over my head to block my breathing.
I skipped a breath.
I was anxious! Oh yes, I was!
Landon finally talked. The statement sounded thunderous. Before he talked, I was already imagining a bad thing happening to me.
"It is a very bad thing. The Alpha has ordered the execution to stop and that we bring Myra and Armani back to the Alpha's mansion. The Alpha wants them to be thrown into prison before he finally decides on what is to be done with them," Landon said slowly. His facial expression said more than he did say. I fully understood what he said.
I felt relieved!
I felt relaxed!
I was so happy!
Yes, death might still come but I was glad I had just cheated death. My joy knew no bounds. This made me overjoyed. I held Armani in my arms, smiled at her, and hugged her tight.
Everything seemed so right now. It was a nice feeling to live. Death was an awful feeling. I could tell that from practical experience.
However, Landon broke the feeling of happiness.
"We don't have time. Let's take this omega and her pup back to the mansion. The Alpha's order must be obeyed and carried out with immediate alacrity," Landon said seriously. All of the guards gave him courtesy as the Alpha's envoy.
"Thank you very much, Landon," the eldest guard said. "The order has been received and it shall be carried out instantly. We promise not to waste any time in delivering."
Landon looked glad. He was happy that he was being regarded. Truly, the eldest guard was the wisest. I was sure he had gained the favour of Landon by doing this.
"What is your name, Mr. Guard?" Landon asked the eldest guard tentatively. I could tell that Landon was certainly interested in the eldest guard. Their aura seemed to match.
"My name is Gabe, Sir, and I am the leader of this squadron. The other guards here are under my command," the eldest guard introduced himself. He sounded dignified.
"Very well," Landon said coolly. He sounded like a royal. "It's nice meeting you, Gabe. I can see that you are a very good person. I will make sure I keep you by my side. You will definitely be instrumental in securing the pack."
"Thanks for the recognition, Sir Landon," Gabe replied. He sounded so cheerful.
Now, I was sure of one thing. All Gabe was trying to do was to bring Landon closer. He wanted Landon's favor as it will be needful to secure a promotion for him.
I thought of tagging it as 'dumb' but it was not. The move was a well calculated one and it was probably the best way to build connects.
Cool!
"Feel free to assign duties to the other guards. I will stand by," Landon addressed Gabe. Both of them looked cool with each other.
Gabe did as he was told. He faced the other guards and began to lecture them. The other guards were about six in number. I was just counting.
"We will have to obey the Alpha's order very quickly. This is how we will divide the responsibilities…" Gabe was saying. He paused for a while to check out the effect of his speech. "One of you should help Sir Landon see to his wound. It is very wrong for an envoy to go back home with a wound which was uncared for."
"I will do that!" One of the guards volunteered. Gabe saw him and nodded his approval.
"Also, it will be necessary that the executioner is dealt with promptly. I can tell he is semi-conscious now. One of you should tie him up. He has to suffer after waking up," Gabe said confidently. All of the guards were paying rapt attention.
"Leave that for me, Sir! I will gladly tie him up properly to effect the punishment," another of the guards answered. Gabe noticed this and once again, he nodded his approval.
"The rest of us…" Gabe muttered. "... Will go ahead to escort Myra, Armani, and Sir Landon back to the mansion. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Sir!" All of the guards chorused.
"Get to work!" Gabe shouted. His voice was probably in its highest pitch.
All of the guards got to work immediately. All of them went to their specified area. They prepared Armani and I for the long journey as well.
At last, we set out.
We were heavily guarded throughout the journey. There were armed guards right in front of Armani and I. We couldn't find a means to escape. I didn't even have any idea.
I was famished and I couldn't think straight.
I was hungry!
I was thirsty!
Even when I was in need of food and water, Landon showed no compassion. He led the procession in style. I would have loved the banter if my legs didn't ache. I could view the scenery while walking but I was too tired to look properly.
I was in ruins.
Now, if I was in this situation, I wondered what position Armina was. She had kept mute since. I looked at her now. She looked pale and her temperature was slightly higher above normal.
Was Armani sick?
Oh no! She shouldn't be. Armina couldn't afford to be sick at this point. I needed her to stay tough and strong.
"Are you okay? Are you feeling hot?" I asked her hurriedly. I was scared. I didn't want her sick. It won't reflect positively at all. We were still going to be thrown into the prison and a sick person could never survive life in the prison.
"Yes, I'm fine," Armani replied. From first sight, I knew she didn't have the strength to talk. She hadn't eaten all day and walking in the hot, steamy sun was definitely taking its toll on her.
Armani wasn't fine. I knew her very well to that extent. She was only shying away because she didn't want to worry me.
Moreover, she wasn't a kid of few words. She loved talking a lot. Her response to the question I just asked made me confirm that something was definitely wrong.
My kid was at risk of losing her life! She needed food and water.
I couldn't go on with the journey without letting my feelings known to Landon. I wouldn't let Armani die from exhaustion.
"Landon!" I shouted. He looked back instantly. He looked annoyed that I had just called him by his name without including any title.
"What is it, Myra?" Landon asked. He sounded very irritated.
I didn't care about Landon's tone. All I cared about was the well-being of armani. I would put my pride down and crawl if need be as long as it would save her.
"I need a favour from you," I told Landon slowly. I looked up at him tentatively. My teary eyes were begging for compassion.
Landon smiled.
"I never knew you could ask for a favour in this lifetime. It's fine anyway. You can go ahead to ask your favour," Landon told me curtly. He showed no signs of arrogance.
That was unexpected!
I expected him to play hard to get but he didn't do that. He sounded ready to listen to my plight.
"The thing is…" I began to say. "Armani is sick. I can feel her hot body temperature and I guess it is as a result of the stress she has undergone since morning. She hasn't eaten nor drank anything and I think she's exhausted. Please get some water for her. I don't want her to die from fatigue."
My speech was quite fascinating even to myself. It was fast-paced and I was sure it was going to hit on the right point.
But that didn't happen…
Instead, what happened was the exact opposite.
Instead of consoling me and helping me out, Landon began to laugh.
I didn't know what cracked him up so hard. The laughter was an intentional one, made too slight.
Soon, the laughter died down. Landon was finally ready to talk.
"Listen carefully, Myra. You do not get to choose what happens to you. You and your kid hold no right to request for water or food. If Armina is dying from exhaustion, then so be it!" Landon said in anger. He was wearing a serious face.
I was shocked.
Gabe called Landon aside and whispered some words into his ear. I didn't know what it was.
Eventually, Landon ordered a guard to get water for Armina while we rested under a tree. Armina and I drank the water and we continued the journey.
In no time, we were back at the mansion. Armani and I were thrown into the prison. Some guards brought dry bread and water for us.
Armina and I ate the food hungrily. I was amazed at how fast Armina ate her own portion. I knew she was still hungry so I gave her a little of my own portion.
We slept that night with no qualms.
However, the problem began again in the middle of the night.
I woke up from a deep sleep to find Armani convulsing.
