Chapter 13

Chapter 13

(Myra's POV)

I woke up with sleepy eyes only to meet an awful sight. Armani was convulsing hard. She looked like she would die a second later. The previous day exhaustion had probably made a mark on her.

I rushed to Armani and held. I was scared and the pace of my heartbeat increased.

I couldn't rescue Armani alone. She needed a doctor if her life was to be saved.

Instantly, I ran to the gates of the prison and shook it hard. Nothing in the world except Armani seemed important to me. I was ready to make a lot of noise as long as it would bring the desired help to me.

A guard heard my voice and rushed down.

"Why are you shouting in this manner, woman? It's not even dawn yet. Don't you understand that some people are sleeping right now?" The guard asked in anger. He looked at me carefully and caught my worried face.

"My kid!" I shouted. I was struggling for the right word. "Armani is convulsing right now! She is dying and she needs help!"

"What!" The guard screamed upon hearing my plight. He looked into the small room which served as a prison, and met Armani restless.

Quickly, the guard was gone. He arrived a few moments later with another guard. The door was opened and one of them carried Armina. As they took her out, they tried to slam the door against me.

I couldn't allow that. I had to be with my child.

I tried to push the door but they were stronger than me. I fell down and wept soberly.

"No!" I cried. "Don't take my kid away. She needs me. She won't recover without me being by her side."

I wept bitterly and uncontrollably. I couldn't control myself at all. All my sad emotions hit me at the same spot and at the same time.

One of the guards had compassion. He was worried about me.

"Let's have the woman go with her kid. She will be in a better position to explain what's wrong to the doctor!" The first guard said. He was addressing the second guard.

"No!" The second guard exclaimed. "What if she trys to run away?"

But the first guard was prepared for a counterattack.

"I don't think that will happen. She won't dare run with her kid with us. Let her go with us!" The first guard insisted.

And a compromise was reached!

The guards opened prison gate and had me follow them. Hurriedly, we headed to the doctor's clinic.

It was a different world in the clinic. It seemed like a world of its own. It was probably the most soothing place in the Alpha's mansion.

The doctor on nightshift attended to us right away. He got some herbs and ordered me to cook them while he worked on giving Armina a neutralizing potion. The nurses on duty made some food for Armina to bring her back to health. They tried to feed her but she refused to eat.

At last, the nurses gave up and told me to feed her myself.

I was happy Armani was recovering.

I fed her and she ate it. She also convinced me to eat some of the delicious meal. I loved it and Armani's convulsion started to look like a blessing in disguise.

She was getting better and after I finished cooking the herbs, she took it as well.

The rest of the night was spent in the clinic. Armani slept on the big, comfy bed while I slept on one of the chairs there. The nurses gave me a blanket to wrap myself in.

I loved the environment I found myself. With no worries, I slept off. I felt like staying at the clinic all day. It was so amazing.

Morning came!

It was a remarkable night for me.

I woke feeling refreshed. I could still see Armani on the clinic bed. She was sweating profusely. I got up and went to feel her temperature. Immediately, Armani woke up. It just dawned on me that she wasn't in a deep sleep.

"Good morning, baby," I told Armani with a smile etched on my face. "How was your night?"

Armani smiled back.

"Better than the day before…" She told me carefully. Her face was still pale. It affected her smile.

"Are you alright now or you're still feeling feverish?" I asked carefully. I wanted to reassure her.

"I'm feeling a bit better. I will be fine, I know," Armina said. She tried to put up a smile after this. I watched her smile unsuccessfully.

My kid was really sick. She was only trying to be strong.

I felt for her. I didn't go through half of this when I was about her age. It made me look irresponsible. I wished I could get Armani out of here to a place with no qualms. That would be really satisfying for me.

"I don't think you are fine, darling. Just say the truth! You don't feel good, do you? I can tell that from your pale face," I told Armani. This was from the depth of my heart. I felt really emotional. It was obvious I will break down soon.

"No, mummy…" Armani cried. She was trying really hard to impress me.

"Don't do that!" I shouted. "You are a kid not an adult. You shouldn't bottle up delicate feelings like that. I am your mother and it's my duty to make sure you're living well."

"But you aren't in any position to make me lead a good life, Mum," Armani said. This was shocking.

"But…" I tried but Armani gave me no audience.

"You can't protect yourself, mummy. I don't think you are in a position to make me lead a good life. I don't want to be a burden to you. You are going through a lot and we both know it," Armani said thoughtfully.

I was amazed at her level of thoughtfulness. Even still, it wasn't right. Armani was just a kid.

"Even still…" I tried to say again but once more, Armani shut me up.

"It's still the same thing…" She said as well. Instantly, I stopped her as well.

"Shut your mouth! I am your mother and you should let me speak when I want to. It's very disrespectful to shun those older than you," I told Armani carefully. It was a move to reprimand her.

Armani kept mute. She kept looking at me while fidgeting at the same time. I looked at her briefly. She looked very thin now just like a shadow of her normal self. Malnutrition and unbalanced diet had taken its toll on her.

I felt sad. I had brought this innocent soul into all these troubles. I almost regretted giving birth to Armani but the fact that she comforted me and made me keep on living reassured me.

I didn't make a mistake. Yes, Armani was too perfect to be a mistake.

"Aren't you going to talk? Are you just going to watch me? Is it your plan to make me look foolish?" I asked tentatively. I was in desperate need of answers.

Armani finally talked. Her voice sounded weak and confirmed that she was really ill.

"Which question should I answer first? Tell me so I can go ahead to answer," Armani told me sharply but with a weak voice.

That sounded contradictory, right?

"You don't need to answer any question…" I told Armani sincerely. "All I want you to know is that you should trust me. I am your mother and you should confide in me."

"I actually do that…" Armani protested.

"But you still keep things from me. Confiding in me won't make you secretive, will it?" I asked carefully. I was longing for an answer to the rhetorical question I just asked.

"I know, Mum, but you got to understand me. I am not doing this purposely," Armani said carefully. She looked at me carefully, her eyes filled with pure love.

"I understand you, baby," I told her reassuringly.

"No, you don't!" Armani protested loudly.

"But I do…" I argued.

"You sound like you don't…" Armani said carefully. She was still looking at me. I gazed back at here.

Silence!

No one talked or moved. We were both engrossed in our evergreen thoughts.

"I have made life very difficult for you," I began to tell Armani.

"No…" Armani tried to say.

"Don't cover for me!" I said sharply. "I don't need to be told before I know that I have made life miserable for you. I made you go through a lot of risks which you shouldn't have gone through at your age. You…"

"It's okay, Mum," Armani said reassuringly.

"No, it's not okay at all," I intercepted. "Like I said before, do not cover for me."

Armani kept mute now.

"I have…" I was saying when I heard a trumpet sound outside.

It was that of the Alpha!

I shook in fear.

I couldn't talk or move. Armani recognized the trumpet as well. She was restless on her bed.

"Is it the bad man?" Armani asked. I couldn't give her a reply.

Instantly, Wilfred entered the room.

"What the hell are you doing on that comfy bed?!" Wilfred shouted.
