Chapter eleven
Chapter 11
(Myra's POV)
The twist was an unexpected one. I had thought my head would be down, rolling on the floor. I never knew I could be saved. My hopes were already lost.
And when I heard the voice, I began to relax. It then dawned on me that torture was better than death. I didn't want to die yet. I wished I lived for my daughter, Armani.
The bald man who wanted to behead me was shocked. He looked up to see the person who shouted. I did the same as well.
Truly, it was a known figure.
It was Landon.
From the look of things, Landon was sent by Wilfred. I was sure about that because Landon held the envoy flag. This was to certify that the Alpha sent him.
Even still, I couldn't be too overjoyed as I still had no knowledge of what the message entailed. It could be to inform them that a more deadly death be given to me.
Anyway, I stood by and anticipated the message. My heart was skipping. I was in a tense situation.
I could see Armani looking up at me with her tender, blue eyes. I could hear her inner voice crying to me, 'mummy, don't die!'.
Landon finally made his way into the execution grounds. The guards were all fixed on him. Everyone seemed to want to know the message which he brought. I didn't know what it was exactly but one thing I was sure of was that the message would be contradictory.
"Stop the execution right away!" Landon cried as he came nearer.
The executioner was having none of it.
"The execution has been paused as you can see. I would beg you to stop making an issue when there's none. Just go on and deliver your message," the bald executioner said. He was frowning while saying this.
I looked at the executioner with distaste visible on my face. I couldn't help but hate him. Someone with the intent to kill me was nothing less than a thorn in my flesh.
Anyway, I was still wondering what Landon had to say. Could it be a more terrible message for me?
Landon smiled upon hearing what the executioner said. He looked at him, shaked his head, and faced the oldest guard.
"What do we do to brats like this?" Landon asked the oldest guard while pointing to the executioner.
"They are usually…" the oldest guard was saying before the executioner cut him short.
"Shut it, you fool! Everyone knows that you are the real brat. I'm sure you do not know the power I have. If you keep spewing rubbish, I am going to cut off your small and brainless head. I'm sure that will do the whole pack a whole lot of good. It's better to have someone die than keep a foolish person," the executioner concluded. He was angry and this made me imprudent with his words. He mainly spewed out things which could bring him trouble. I was sure he didn't know how important Landon was to the Alpha. It was also crucial to note that Landon was holding the envoy flag at the moment. The envoy flag represented the Alpha.
The executioner should know all these. Well, even if he knew it, he didn't act on it and this was going to get him into a whole lot of trouble. I was very sure of that.
Landon wasn't the merciful type. I knew that and I was sure trouble would ensue at that moment.
Landon moved closer to the executioner. I could see the anger in his eyes. Carefully, Landon put down the flag and fully confronted the executioner.
This was going to be intense!
The executioner wasn't afraid. He held his sword delicately. He was ready to cut Landon into pieces if need be. I wasn't sure he was in his right mind. Fighting an envoy was a very great offense which could fetch him death. Well, he was stupid enough not to think about what he was doing.
I would think twice if I were him…
"How dare you talk to me in that manner! Are you really ready for my transformation?" Landon asked angrily. His voice was deep, and loud.
The bald executioner did nothing other than laugh at Landon. The executioner's laughter was dry but fun-filled. It cracked me up but I dared not laugh. I was in a dire need of help and not in the position to laugh.
"You are very funny, Mr. Envoy!" The bald executioner said without any hint of fear in his voice and facial expression. "You are nothing but an envoy. What makes you feel higher than me in position? You can ask around. I am the one and only executioner right now in this pack. I am the sword of the Alpha. Do you know how many people I have killed? Adding your blood to the catalog of those I have shed will change nothing. I don't even think your blood is worth a strand of my hair. You are simply worthless!"
This was a great insult to a man of Landon's caliber. I noticed Landon's facial expression change while listening to the executioner.
Then it got violent.
Landon punched the executioner hard on his face. It was a very hard blow and the executioner fell to the ground.
Landon didn't stop there. He grabbed the executioner's sword and moved ahead to cut the executioner. It was at that moment that the guards interfered.
The guards held Landon and took the sword away from him. They were loud screams, hushes, and murmurings but I could make out the eldest guard's voice.
"Don't do this! It will be of no benefit to you if you kill him. Remember that you are a man. Feel free to beat him up but using weapons makes you lesser than him. Only cowards fight their fellow brothers with weapons. I believe you aren't a coward," the eldest guard told Landon.
I couldn't make out what was happening. I expected the eldest guard to stop the fight but his statement sounded like he was encouraging the fight. Landon's next statement confirmed that.
"That's true! Let him get up so I can give him the beating of his life!" Landon shouted in anger.
The executioner had stood up now. He looked angry as well. I could see his bald head shining as a result of the sweat there.
"Cool!" The executioner shouted back. "Let's fight it out, man-to-man."
And the battle line was drawn.
The guards moved to a corner to watch Landon and the executioner fight. I stood up and went to Armani as well. I hugged my little kid and whispered reassuring words to her ear. After doing this, I relaxed to enjoy the fight.
It was a moment for two of my enemies to collide. I couldn't be more happy.
I didn't know who was better in martial arts between Landon and the executioner. All I could do was to make assumptions.
The executioner was more well built by Landon, but physically, Landon seemed more fit. Both of them were experienced soldiers so it was sure that they both would be skilled in martial arts.
Anyway, I watched as they exchanged blows.
Landon had the upper hand in the openings. He seemed wiser than the bald executioner. I could confirm this as Landon was able to hit the executioner in delicate places. It was at this point that I found out that the executioner had very nice stamina. Even with the blows which Landon threw at him, he was able to shake it all off.
As time passed, Landon started to get tired. At this point, the executioner began to gain the upper hand gradually. It was not surprising when the executioner punched Landon hard right on his unguided mouth.
A tooth flew out and Landon's lip started to bleed.
The sight was disgusting.
Landon tried his best to guide the punches but all his trials were in vain. The executioner went faster than ever. The punches landed like missiles on Landon.
Landon would pass out soon, it was obvious. I began to get afraid. Landon shouldn't pass out without delivering the message. What if the message was a good one for me?
I didn't reason if the message was a bad one…
But at that moment, Landon got supplied with a maximum amount of adrenaline. He held the executioner's hand and twisted it round his back.
That must have hurt!
Landon lifted the executioner and moved to the artillery. Without thinking twice about it, Landon threw the executioner over the artillery.
It was a bad fall.
Very bad one!
Instantly, the executioner passed out. Landon won the fight.
The guards came to Landon and cheered him for his victory. Landon beamed in happiness. His lip was still bleeding though.
The eldest guard noticed Landon's bleeding lip just as I had noticed.
"You are bleeding," the eldest guard highlighted.
"I know…" Landon's voice trailed off.
"You should take care of it…" the eldest guard said again.
"I will…" Landon said. "... But first of all, I will have to deliver the Alpha's message."
Everyone kept mute. I was fully tense now.
"It's a bad message," Landon began. "Myra is to be…"
